2451. Future wars will be tech-driven, India must stay ahead

2452. BRO to Build World’s Highest Motorable Road in Eastern Ladakh
- On March 19, 2025, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) initiated the construction of the Likaru-Mig La-Fukche road in Eastern Ladakh, which will become the world’s highest motorable road at 19,400 feet upon completion.
- Key Details of the Project: The Likaru-Mig La-Fukche road is 64 km long and will enhance access to the Line of Actual Control (LAC). Once completed, it will break the record currently held by Umling La Road (19,024 feet). The project has a budget of ₹520 crore and will improve logistics for the armed forces.
- This will facilitate military movement in the sensitive Demchok sector, boost the socio-economic development of nearby villages, and strengthen border security amid ongoing tensions with China.
2453. J&KNHIDCL Revolutionizing J&K’s Transformative Infrastructure landscape
- On March 19, 2025, the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) announced road and tunnel projects worth ₹20,500 crore aimed at transforming Jammu & Kashmir's connectivity, economy, and defence infrastructure.
- Key Infrastructure Developments: 7 Tunnels Under NHIDCL: 4 under construction 3 in DPR stage Sonamarg Tunnel (Z-Morh Tunnel): ₹2,378.76 crore – Completed Zoji-La Tunnel: ₹6,808.69 crore – Under Construction Chenani-Sudhmahadev-Khellani-Kishtwar-Vailoo-Khanabal (NH-244) – Key Project
- Strategic Significance of Tunnels & Highways: Sudhmahadev-Dranga Tunnels (₹3,876 crore) and Singhpora-Vailoo Tunnel (₹5,025 crore) on NH-244 provide a safer alternative to NH-44, improving strategic military movement. These tunnels reduce distances and ensure all-weather connectivity, strengthening India’s defence preparedness. PMDP (Prime Minister’s Development Package) funds these tunnels to enhance border security, logistics, and disaster response.
- Technological & Economic Impact: Use of New Austrian Tunnel Method (NATM) ensures structural stability and operational safety. The Akhnoor-Poonch road and Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway (₹11,090 crore) will enhance trade and travel efficiency. Investment of ₹10,192 crore in BRO & PWD projects strengthens regional accessibility.
2454. Centre to invest Rs 3 lakh crore to build US-standard highways in Assam
- On March 19, 2025, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, announced in the Rajya Sabha that the Centre will invest ₹3 lakh crore to develop world-class highways in Assam, meeting US standards.
- Key Road Projects in Assam: Guwahati Ring Road: ₹5,800 crore project, expected completion by December 2027. Brahmaputra River Tunnel (Dibrugarh): Estimated cost of ₹12,000 crore, currently awaiting approval. Elevated Highway Over Kaziranga National Park: Will commence after Cabinet approval, with no funding constraints.
- Key Benefits & Government Commitment: Projects will enhance connectivity, generate employment, and boost economic growth in the Northeast. Gadkari assured that his ministry has no shortage of funds for road development in Assam. Stressed PM Modi’s priority for infrastructure development in the Northeast.
- With this investment, Assam is set for a major infrastructure transformation, reinforcing its role as a key economic hub in the Northeast.

2455. Fitch Retains India's FY26 GDP Growth Forecast At 6.5%
- On 19 march,2025, It was reported that, Fitch Ratings has maintained India's gross domestic product (GDP) growth forecast for FY26 at 6.5 per cent while revising its FY27 projection upward by 10 basis points to 6.3 per cent, according to its March Global Economic Outlook report.
- India's Economic Survey has projected GDP growth in the range of 6.3–6.8 per cent for FY26. Official estimates peg GDP growth for the ongoing financial year at 6.5 per cent. Growth had slowed to 5.4 per cent in the July–September 2024 quarter before recovering to 6.2 per cent in the following quarter.
- Ratings revised its forecast for India’s economic growth in the next financial year to 6.5 per cent, up from 6.3 per cent this year, citing higher government capital expenditure and a boost to consumption from tax cuts and interest rate reductions.

2456. India-Made World's First Operational EV For Tactical Defence
- On 19 march 2025 Bengaluru-based EV startup Pravaig's all-terrain stealth vehicle, Veer -- the world's first operational EV designed for tactical defense use -- has undergone military trials and won the prestigious iDEX award from the Ministry of Defence.
- In a major step towards strategic autonomy, Pravaig has won the prestigious iDEX Award for its VEER Electric Tactical All-Terrain Vehicle (E-TATV) -- a cutting-edge, highly stealthy vehicle designed for forward patrolling, reconnaissance, and ISR operations," Pravaig Dynamics.
- Atima Corporation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Pravaig, won the iDEX Award by the Defence Innovation Organisation (DIO), under the aegis of the Department of Defence Production in the Ministry of Defence,
2457. India’s agricultural and processed food exports see strong growth in FY2024
- On 19 march,2025, It was reported that, India’s exports of agricultural and processed food products have experienced a significant 13 percent increase, reaching $22.67 billion during the April-February period of the current financial year.
- India’s tea exports have also hit a 10-year high, reaching 255 million kilograms in 2024, despite facing challenges from global geopolitical tensions.
- India’s major tea export markets include the UAE, Iraq, Iran, Russia, the US, and the UK, and the increase in both export volumes and average prices bodes well for the country’s position as a global leader in tea production and export.

2458. Govt clears ₹1,500 cr scheme to boost low-value BHIM-UPI transactions
- On 19 March,2025, The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister of India , approved an incentive scheme for the promotion of low-value BHIM-UPI transactions (person to merchant - P2M) for financial year 2024-25, with an estimated outlay of ₹1,500 crore.
- Under the scheme, incentives will be provided for UPI transactions up to ₹2,000, specifically benefitting small merchants. The government aims to increase digital payments penetration while minimising financial burden on merchants and consumers.
- The incentives are disbursed to acquiring banks, which further distribute them among other stakeholders, including issuer banks, payment service providers, and app providers.
