23311. Consignment of Made in India COVID-19 vaccines airlifted for Guyana, Jamaica, Nicaragua
- India airlifted a consignment of Made in India COVID-19 vaccines for Guyana, Jamaica and Nicaragua under the Vaccine Maitri initiative.
- The information was shared by the Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Anurag Srivastava on Twitter. In a tweet, Srivastava said, "#VaccineMaitri continues! Consignment of Made in India Covid vaccines airlifted for Guyana, Jamaica and Nicaragua.".
- Twenty-five nations across the world have already received Made in India vaccines and Forty-nine more countries will be supplied in the coming days

23313. Moving forward together! India hands over ventilators and ambulances to Nepal
- As a gesture of solidarity and close cooperation, India's Ambassador to Nepal VM Kwatra today handed over the medical equipment including ventilators and ambulances to General Purna Chandra Thapa, Chief of the Nepali Army. This is probably a day after Nepal`s new Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister, Raghubir Mahaseth on Wednesday sought India`s support for Covid vaccines.
- Project HOPE and partners have distributed 150 oxygen concentrators, 8000 oxygen masks, 227000 units of PPE, 3250 pulse oximeters, and other supplies in 5 Indian states: Karnataka, Telangana, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha. They also have developed an innovative program aimed at pediatric COVID-19 patients to improve protection and clinical care for children in 28 Indian health facilities.
- Over 750 Nepali healthcare workers have been trained on COVID19 Acute Care, with several more sessions planned in the coming weeks. In Nepal, hospital beds, 100 oxygen tanks, 84 oxygen concentrators, temporary hospital tents, and 8000 units of PPE have been distributed.
23314. First time ever, Indian Railways' Oxygen Express to transport 200 MT Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO) to Bangladesh in 10 containers.
- Indian Railways' Oxygen Express is set to embark on its journey to Bangladesh. This is the first time ever that the Oxygen Express is put into operation to neighbouring country. an indent was placed at Tata in Chakradharpur Division under South Eastern Railway to transport 200 MT of Liquid Medical Oxygen to Benapole, Bangladesh.
- It may be noted that Oxygen Expresses were started by Indian Railways on 24th April, 2021 to provide respite to Indian states requiring medical Oxygen. More than 35000 MT of LMO was transported to 15 states. Around 480 Oxygen Expresses were operationalised.
- Indian Railways endeavour to deliver as much LMO as possible in the shortest time possible.
23315. India Inc's overseas investment rises marginally to $2.7 billion in March
- kolkata: India Inc's overseas investment has risen marginally to $2.7 billion in March compared to February's $2.4 billion amid the Covid-19 pandemic that has brought global economy to standstill.
- Among major equity investments was ONGC Videsh's $62 million infusion in a Russian joint venture Sakhlin Oil Field project. ONGC Videsh has also pumped in another $7.24 million in an agriculture and mining joint venture in Mozambique. Alembic Pharmaceuticals NSE -1.46 % invested $16.5 million in its wholly owned subsidiary in the US.
- Total overseas equity investment by Indian companies dipped by about a third to $537 million in March compared with $1.8 billion in the year ago period. It was $539 million in February, this year.
23316. UN body joins hands with Indian think-tank to promote e-commerce amid Covid-19

23317. Mick Jagger and Will Smith to perform in India Covid-19 concert
- International and Indian celebrities to take part from home in fundraising event Mick Jagger and Will Smith will be among dozens of international and Indian celebrities performing from their homes in a four-hour concert to raise funds for the battle against coronavirus in India, where the number of cases is surging.
- The country’s cricket captain Virat Kohli, actors Priyanka Chopra and Shah Rukh Khan are some of the top domestic names billed to perform or read messages during the event.
- The performances will be livestreamed by Facebook and will pay tribute to workers fighting the pandemic. Organized by the Bollywood directors Karan Johar and Zoya Akhtar, the event is intended to raise millions of dollars for more than 100 groups providing food and other essential services during the crisis.
23318. India announces USD 500 million assistance for major connectivity project in Maldives
- India will fund the implementation of a major connectivity project in Maldives through a USD 400 million line of credit and USD 100 million grant, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said.
- The 6.7 km Greater Male Connectivity Project (GMCP) will be the largest civilian infrastructure project in Maldives, connecting Male with three neighbouring islands - Villingili, Gulhifahu and Thilafushi, officials said. He also announced the start of regular cargo ferry service between India and Maldives to boost trade and commerce between the two countries. India is also extending financial support for construction of a port in Gulhifahu.
- "Once completed, this landmark project will streamline connectivity between the four islands, thereby boosting economic activity, generating employment and promoting holistic urban development in the Male region," the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.
23319. India rushes emergency technical support to Mauritius to control oil spill as part of extended neighbourhood outreach
- Delhi as part of its Indian Ocean Region outreach has dispatched over 30 tonnes of technical equipment and material on board an Indian Force Aircraft to Mauritius to supplement the country’s ongoing oil spill containment and salvage operations. The move in India's extended neighbourhood was made following a request of the Government of Mauritius (GoM) for assistance in dealing with the environmental crisis due to oil spill on its south-east coast.
- The specialized equipment on board IAF aircraft, consisting of Ocean Booms, River Booms, Disc Skimmers, Heli Skimmers, Power packs, Blowers, Salvage barge and Oil absorbent Graphene pads and other accessories, is specifically designed to contain the oil slick, skim oil from water, and assist in clean up and salvage operations, according to a MEA statement.
- A 10-member Technical Response Team, consisting of Indian Coast Guard (ICG) personnel specially trained for dealing with oil spill containment measures, has also been deployed to Mauritius to extend necessary technical and operational assistance at the site.
23320. COVID-19 impact: India extends $250 million in financial support to Maldives
- The financial assistance was announced first during a virtual meeting with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and provided through a Treasury Bond sale to the State Bank of India, Male which has a tenure of 10 years for repayment. India has provided financial aid of $250 million to the Maldives to help it mitigate the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The grant was in response to the request made by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to PM Modi to overcome the difficult economic situation in the Maldives, the Indian embassy said on Sunday.
- The statement added, A handover ceremony was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Government of Maldives to mark the occasion in the presence of Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid, Finance Minister Ibrahim Ameer, High Commissioner Sunjay Sudhir and CEO, SBI, Male Bharat Mishra.
- The USD 250 million budgetary support showcases the resilience and reliability of the India-Maldives relationship. India's Neighbourhood First policy and the Maldives' India First policy have worked in tandem during the COVID-19 pandemic to safeguard the well-being of our peoples. Today is another milestone in our historic ties that have expanded in scope and risen in ambition in the recent past, it said.
