22541. Jammu-Baramulla railway line: A revolutionary project for uplifting the economy of J&K
- Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla railway line, one of the most remarkable projects of the Indian Government, once completed, will be revolutionary for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir as it will turnaround the economic landscape here.
- The railway line will not only give the all-weather connectivity to Kashmir valley but also substantially reduce the transportation costs and will form the backbone of transport of J&K.
- The logistics of the track faced many natural challenges as it had to be constructed through major earthquake zone, battling extreme temperatures and hilly terrains. Though the sections from Jammu to Katra and Banihal to Baramulla have been built and are operational, the track from Katra to Banihal is yet to be completed. Moreover, the extension of the railway line up to Kupwara has also been approved.
22542. Many steps taken to give better opportunities to J&K, Ladakh: President
- The Narendra Modi government has taken many important steps to provide better opportunities for education, health and employment to the people of "hitherto left neglected" Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, President Ram Nath Kovind said on Monday.
- Addressing a joint sitting of both houses of Parliament at the start of the budget session, Kovind said at the "Amrit Kaal" of independence, the Centre's resolve of "Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat" (one India, greatest India) is enabling the country to write a new chapter of development on the basis of democratic values and it is now making special efforts for the states and regions "hitherto left neglected".
- "The beginning of a new era of development in Jammu and Kashmir and the Ladakh region is a great example of this," he said.
22543. Assam govt announces Rs 37 cr to construct integrated SDO(C) office, stadium.
- Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday announced to construct an integrated SDO(C) office and a stadium at a cost of Rs 37 crore during his visit to Assam's Lakhipur town.
- Taking to Twitter, the Chief Minister wrote "Happy to announce Rs 25 crore for constructing an integrated SDO(C) office and Rs 12 crore for a stadium during my visit to Lakhipur."
- "A GNM nursing institute will also be set up and a science stream introduced at Nehru College, while the government hospital will be upgraded to a 100-bed Civil Hospital,"

22544. PM Modi Commends Assam's Efforts In Reducing Rhino Poaching Cases
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday praised the efforts of the people and the government of Assam in bringing down rhino poaching cases from 37 in 2013 to one in 2021.
- Responding to the appreciation from PM Modi, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said his government is firm in ensuring that the menace of poaching of the iconic one-horned rhinoceros is eliminated.
- The chief of the state's anti-poaching squad and special DGP, GP Singh, also reiterated the resolve for stopping poaching altogether.
- PM Modi said more than 2,400 horns seized from smugglers were burnt on September 22 last year on the occasion of World Rhino Day.

22546. Kochi airport secures 3rd position in handling international traffic despite Covid
- The Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) or Kochi airport has once again retained its position as the third busiest airport in India throughout 2021 with a total footfall of 3,01,338 passengers during December 2021.
- As per the data by the Airport Authority of India (AAI), Kochi airport handled a total of 43,06,661 passengers in 2021 out of which, 18,69,690 were international passengers, ultimately marking an increase in passenger volume by 10 lakh compared to 2020,
- Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode airports also made it to the top 10 list, securing 6th and 8th position respectively.

22547. India home to over 61,000 recognised startups, Delhi takes over as startup capital: Economic Survey
- India is home to more than 61,400 startups recognised by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), as per the Economic Survey. The services sector has the maximum number of startups in the country.
- In 2021, DPIIT recognised over 14,000 new startups in comparison to 733 new startups recognized in 2016-17.
- The government recognised over 5,000 new startups in Delhi-NCR compared to 4,514 startups in Bengaluru between April 2019 and December 2021.

22549. Adani Total Gas Ltd to invest Rs 20,000 crore in CGD sector in the next eight years
- India’s largest private City Gas Distribution (CGD) player and a joint venture between the Adani Group and TotalEnergies, has won licenses to expand its CGD network to 14 new Geographical Areas (GAs) in the recently concluded 11th round of bidding by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB).
- These 52 GAs account for 15% of the country covering 124 districts across 18 States and three Union Territories (UTs), a press release from the company said.

22550. Sun Pharma Q3 net up 11 per cent at Rs 2,059 crore
- Sun Pharma posted an 11.14 per cent increase in its consolidated net profit to Rs 2,058.8 crore for the third quarter ended on December 31, 2021, on the back of robust sales across domestic and international markets.
- The Mumbai-based drug major had reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 1,852.4 crore in the October-December period of previous fiscal.
- Total revenue from operations rose to Rs 9,863 crore in the third quarter as compared to Rs 8,836.7 crore in the same period of previous fiscal, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries said in a regulatory filing.
