2071. FY25 India pharma exports cross $30 billion, surge 31% in March
- On 19 April 2025, It was reported that, India’s annual drug and pharmaceutical exports touched a record $30 billion in FY25 bolstered by a 31% year-on-year surge in March.
- Granular details for March are awaited, Pharmexcil DG said. Data for April-February show drug formulations and biologicals as a product category led with $20118.18 million and accounted for more than 75% of the total exports.
- Regionwise, NAFTA, Europe, Africa and LAC were the four major regions together accounting for 76% of India’s pharma exports. Of them NAFTA accounted for 36.60% with the exports increasing 14.06% to $9804.78 million.

2072. South India's first AC EMU train unveiled on Chennai Beach-Chengalpattu route
- South India’s first air-conditioned Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) train began its services On 19 April 2025, on the busy Chennai Beach-Chengalpattu route with the Southern Railway introducing the services in peak Summer.
- While the minimum fare (up to 10 km) on the AC train, the maximum fare (50 km -60 km) is fixed at Rs 105, even as the Southern Railways announced monthly passes starting from Rs 620.
- Chennai Beach-Chengalpattu and Chennai Beach-Tambaram are two busy routes that connect the city with many of its suburbs. “It is a welcome move that the trains have been introduced during peak summer,” Richard said, adding that the Southern Railway should consider running AC trains during office rush hour.
2073. Deoband-Roorkee rail line approved, cuts Delhi-Dehradun distance by 40 km
- On 19 April 2025 it was reported that, According to a press release from the Uttarakhand Chief Minister's Office (CMO), a successful speed trial was recently conducted on this section at 122 kmph, paving the way for its commissioning. With this new line, the railway distance between Delhi and Dehradun will be reduced by approximately 40 km, significantly cutting travel time.
- Uttarakhand Chief Minister expressed heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister and Railway Minister for this achievement.
- The Chief Minister further noted that the new rail line will open new avenues of development for the people of Uttarakhand, giving a significant boost to tourism, employment, and business in the region.
2074. DRDO Unveils New 6.8mm Rifle, Eyes Replacement for INSAS Amid Ak-203 Programme Delays
- On 19 April 2025, It was reported that, DRDO has developed a new indigenous 6.8x43mm assault rifle to reduce India’s dependence on imported weapons like the SIG716 and overcome delays in the AK-203 project.
- The rifle offers a balanced solution—more powerful than the 5.56mm INSAS and lighter than the 7.62mm SIG716—making it suitable for mountain, jungle, and urban warfare.
- If successful in trials, this rifle could become India’s first fully homegrown alternative, aligning with global trends and boosting the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
2075. Indian Army Acquires Nine More DRDO Anti-Drone Systems to Tackle Rising Drone Threats from Bangladesh
- On 19 April 2025, It was reported that, The Indian Army is ramping up its efforts to tackle the rising drone threat from across the Pakistan border with the acquisition of nine more laser-based anti-drone systems.
- The Defence Ministry has fast-tracked the procurement under emergency powers, adding to the seven systems already in place. These Integrated Drone Detection and Interdiction Systems, developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), are proving crucial in curbing the growing use of drones for surveillance, smuggling weapons, and narcotics across the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB).
- The laser systems, armed with a 2-kilowatt laser beam, have proven effective at a range of up to 1,000 metres, ensuring drones are incapacitated before they can pose a serious threat.
2076. Fourth stage PSLV engine test with Stellite Nozzle Divergent success : ISRO
- The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on 18 April 2025,said the fourth stage PSLV engine test with Stellite Nozzle Divergent (a cobalt based alloy) was successful and it would help in saving 90 per cent of costs.
- In a step towards achieving Atmanirbhar Bharat and reducing costs, ISRO announced that it has proposed replacing the imported Columbium (C103) material currently used in the nozzle divergent of the PSLV’s fourth-stage liquid engines (PS4) with an indigenous alternative—Stellite (KC20WN).
- Stellite, a cobalt-based alloy enriched with Chromium, Nickel, Tungsten, and Iron, is known for retaining high strength at elevated temperatures up to 1150°C, making it well-suited for high-temperature applications in space missions.

- On 18 April 2025, Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology inaugurated a new Surface Mount Technology (SMT) line and called it a major step forward for the ‘Make in India’ initiative. He praised India’s growing capabilities in electronics design and manufacturing, and highlighted progress in intellectual property rights protection and global competitiveness.
- Union Minister highlighted that the server is equipped with eight GPUs and was completely designed in India. He underlined the country’s growing strength in advanced electronics and artificial intelligence.
- The Minister praised VVDN Technologies for their efforts and called the launch a major step forward for the ‘Make in India’ initiative.
2078. Tripura CM proposes Rs 969 cr projects to achieve self-sufficiency in milk, eggs, meat & fish
- On April 18, 2025, Tripura CM proposed Rs 969 crore worth of projects to achieve self-sufficiency in milk, egg, fish, and meat production, announced during a virtual meeting with Northeast CMs and Union Minister.
- In the dairy sector, Tripura’s 2023-24 milk production was 2.47 lakh metric tonnes against a demand of 2.82 lakh, with initiatives like artificial insemination using sex-sorted semen producing 50,000 female calves and plans for eight 200-cow dairy farms costing Rs 80 crore.
- For eggs, Tripura leads the Northeast with 87 eggs per capita annually, driven by the Mukhya Mantri Prani Sampad Bikas Yojana distributing 3 lakh chicks yearly, with Rs 15 crore proposed for mini hatcheries and Rs 6 crore for upgrading poultry farms.
- Saha emphasized strengthening the Gomati Milk Union with Rs 7 crore for milk cooling stations and heifer programs, highlighting the critical role of these sectors in providing essential nutrients for Tripura’s population.

2079. "Kashmir's Only Relation With Pakistan...": India On Pak Army Chief's "Jugular Vein" Remark
- On 17 April 2025, India has rubbished comments by the Pakistani army chief who claimed Kashmir was Islamabad's "jugular vein". In a strongly worded statement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) told reporters that Pakistan's "only relationship with Kashmir" is to vacate the illegally occupied territory.
- MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, "How can anything foreign be in a jugular vein? This is a Union Territory of India. Its only relationship with Pakistan is the vacation of illegally occupied territories by that country."
- Speaking about Kashmir, Pakistan's army chief General Asim Munir said, "Our stance is absolutely clear, it was our jugular vein, it will be our jugular vein, we will not forget it. We will not leave our Kashmiri brothers in their heroic struggle."

2080. India snubs Pakistan on Pak Army chief's Kashmir proposal
- India on 4 February 2021, told Pakistan that any resumption of talks to resolve the issue of Kashmir can only take place if Pakistan shuns use of terrorism as an instrument of state policy.
- Anurag Srivastava, spokesperson at the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), said, "Our position is well known. India desires normal neighbourly relations with Pakistan in an environment free of terror, hostility and violence. The onus is on Pakistan for creating such an environment."
- The response was in wake of a proposal by Pakistan Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa's proposal to resolve the Jammu and Kashmir issue in a "dignified and peaceful manner" between India and Pakistan.
- All important engagements and talks with Pakistan were stalled when the air force base in Pathankot was attacked by terrorists backed by Pakistan in 2016 followed by the dastardly attack on an Indian Army camp in Uri in September the same year.
