1441. Miniratna PSU BEML bags ₹282 crore HMV order from Ministry of Defence
- On August 4, 2025, State owned Miniratna PSU BEML announced it had secured a ₹282 crore order from the Ministry of Defence to supply 8x8 Heavy Mobility Vehicles (HMVs) for the Indian armed forces. The announcement was made after market hours, and the company’s shares closed nearly flat on August 5, 2025.
- The 8x8 HMVs are high capacity military transport vehicles designed for multiple uses, including carrying missiles, tanks, and heavy military equipment. BEML confirmed the order through a filing with the BSE, stating that these vehicles will enhance the mobility and operational readiness of India’s defence forces.
- The company is a leading manufacturer in the defence sector, has been expanding its role in indigenous equipment production. This contract strengthens India’s self-reliance in defence manufacturing and reinforces BEML’s strategic role in supplying critical military hardware.
1442. Philippines grants visa-free entry to Indians as PM promises more direct flights
- On 5 August 2025, during Philippine President Ferdinand R Marcos Jr.'s visit to New Delhi, India and the Philippines elevated their ties to a strategic partnership and announced key initiatives including visa-free entry for Indian tourists to the Philippines, free e-visa for Philippine travellers to India, and plans for direct Delhi-Manila flights.
- Improving ease of travel between the two countries is a key part of this partnership. With visa processes being simplified and direct air links in the pipeline, both governments are working to encourage tourism, business travel, and cultural exchange.
- The flights will operate five times a week—on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays—using Airbus A321neo aircraft. The aircraft will feature a three-class configuration: Business, Premium Economy, and Economy.

1443. Gentari & AWS Ink 80MW Wind Energy Deal in Tamil Nadu
- On August 5, 2025, Gentari, a clean energy company signed a deal with Amazon Web Services to supply 80 megawatts of wind power in Tamilnadu.
- The wind farm is expected to become operational by mid-2027. Once active, it will generate approximately 300,000 megawatt-hours of clean electricity every year. This renewable energy will help AWS power its cloud infrastructure in India.
- The agreement is part of AWS's larger effort to decarbonize its operations and reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. For Gentari, the partnership highlights its growing role in the renewable energy market in Asia.
1444. NTPC Green subsidiary wins 70,000 MT green ammonia order from Solar Energy Corporation
- On August 5, 2025, NTPC REL won an e-reverse auction conducted by the Solar Energy Corporation of India to supply 70,000 metric tonnes per annum of green ammonia to Krishana Phoschem Limited in Madhya Pradesh, at a cost of ₹51.80 per kg.
- SECI’s broader tender totaling 7.24 lakh MT/Year of green ammonia across 13 locations under India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission. NTPC REL will be fully responsible for production, logistics and ensuring clean fuel delivery over a multi-year contract.
- The bid demonstrates growing momentum toward sustainable fuel solutions. Green ammonia is crucial for decarbonizing industries like fertilizer production and power generation, helping align with national climate goals.
1445. Nitin Gadkari unveils 29 National Highway projects worth Rs 5,233 crore in Andhra Pradesh
- On August 3, 2025, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways inaugurated 29 National Highway projects across Andhra Pradesh, covering 272 km of total road length with investment of over ₹5,233 crore.
- The projects are part of the Bharatmala Pariyojana and aim to eliminate accident prone black spots and rail crossings, reduce logistics costs and enhance connectivity in rural and tribal regions.
- The Projects will decongest urban centers like Tirupati, Nellore and Rayachoty and Andhra Pradesh's vision to become a global logistics hub with plans for 20 new ports and enhanced infrastructure.

1446. At Rs 25.1 lakh crore, UPI payments hit new high in July
- On 2 Aug 2025, it was reported that UPI transactions reached a record high in July with 1,947 crore transactions worth ₹25.1 lakh crore marking the highest monthly count in India’s digital payments history.
- The surge reflects a 35% year-on-year growth in volume and 22% rise in value, highlighting growing public trust and the expanding role of UPI in everyday transactions.
- The average daily numbers rose to 62.8 crore transactions and ₹80,919 crore in value surpassing June’s figures and signalling steady momentum in digital payment adoption.

1447. Axiscades secures ₹600 crore defence orders for indigenous platforms
- On July 30,2025 Bengaluru-based engineering solutions provider Axiscades announced that it has secured Rs 600 crore worth of new defence orders for the development and supply of advanced sub-systems for indigenous platforms from agencies like DRDO and Defence PSUs.
- The orders involve high-performance radar, sonar, and signal processing electronics, reinforcing Axiscades’ capabilities in sophisticated defence technologies. In June, its subsidiary Axiscades Aerospace and Technologies signed an agreement with MBDA to establish a missile systems engineering facility in Karnataka, equipped with advanced test benches and infrastructure.
- The contracts strengthen India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat mission by advancing indigenous defence production, enhancing technological capabilities, and supporting long-term national security objectives while creating high-value jobs in the defence manufacturing sector.
1448. Industry 4.0 Adoption: BSNL, NRL sign MoU to bring India's first 5G captive network to refinery sector
- On August 3, 2025, BSNL and Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) signed an MoU during an Industry 4.0 workshop in Guwahati to deploy India’s first 5G Captive Non-Public Network (CNPN) in the refinery sector, as announced by the Ministry of Communications.
- Using indigenous 5G infrastructure, the initiative aims to provide secure, real-time industrial connectivity for critical operations, enhancing efficiency, cybersecurity, and enabling technologies like Digital Twins, AR/VR, and IoT. - On 4 August 2025, Vietnam-based EV maker VinFast inaugurated its first Indian manufacturing plant in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu its third globally as part of a $500 million initial investment.

1450. Ashwini Vaishnaw flags off three new express trains from Bhavnagar
- On August 3, 2025 Railway Minister flagged off three new express trains from Bhavnagar, Gujarat the Bhavnagar-Ayodhya Express, Rewa-Pune (Hadapsar) Express, and Jabalpur-Raipur Express.
- The Bhavnagar-Ayodhya Express will run weekly, connecting Gujarat with Uttar Pradesh’s cultural and religious centres. The Rewa-Pune Express and Jabalpur-Raipur Express will strengthen links between central India and key cities in Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh.
- The ongoing Indian Railways expansion of Rs34,000 km of new tracks in 11 years, redevelopment of 1,300 stations, launch of Amrit Bharat trains, and progress on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train. Union Ministers welcomed the move, citing economic and cultural benefits for Saurashtra and neighbouring regions.
