1361. Ladakh's Lungnak Block Becomes First in Zanskar to Achieve 100% Tap Water Coverage
- On 25 July 2023, in Ladakh, the Lungnak Block of the Zanskar sub-division Kargil district has achieved 100 percent coverage of water connection under the Jal Jeevan Mission to all the households of every village of the block.
- With this significant milestone in water supply in rural villages, Lungnak has become the first block in Ladakh to ensure "Har Ghar Nal Se Jal" (tap water supply) under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) scheme.
- The present 75 percent coverage of water connection to rural Ladakh, which is a notable transformation despite several challenges, Union Territory Ladakh now ranks 16th among all the States and UTs in the country.
- Four of the 31 blocks of Union Territory namely Saspol and Thiksey in Leh district and Drass and Bhimbat Drass in Kargil district have achieved 90 percent of households in water connection.

1362. Government Boosts Digital Connectivity in Jammu Kashmir: Rs 563.58 Crore Sanctioned, 20,441 Km Fibre Laid
- The Government of India has significantly expanded digital and telecom infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir, with over Rs 563.58 crore sanctioned for mobile services and a massive 20,441 route kilometres of Optical Fibre Cable (OFC) laid across the Union Territory.
- The Comprehensive Annual Modular Survey (CAMS) 2022–23 showed that 94.2 percent of rural households and 97.1 percent of urban households in India had mobile or telephone connections.Usage among those aged 15–24 years in rural areas rose from 92.6 percent in 2022–23 to 96.9 percent in 2025.
- To strengthen mobile networks, the Centre has commissioned 21,748 mobile towers across India under 4G saturation and rural projects, with JK among the focus regions due to its connectivity challenges.

1363. India flash PMI surges to 65.2 in August on record services, mfg growth
- On august 21, 2025, India’s private sector economy recorded its fastest growth since the start of survey data in December 2005, with the headline HSBC Flash India Composite PMI Output Index rising over four points to 65.2 from 61.1 in July, according to S&P Global
- Both sectors grew faster, led by services, with the HSBC Flash India Services PMI hitting a record 65.6, up from 60.5 last month.
- The HSBC Flash India Manufacturing PMI rose to 59.8 in August from 59.1 in July, its highest reading since January 2008, signalling faster improvement in factory operating conditions.

1364. Railway Ministry readies ₹48,692-crore DPR for Tanakpur–Bageshwar Line in Uttarakhand
- On august 21, 2025, The Ministry of Railways has completed the survey and prepared a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed Tanakpur–Bageshwar new line. The proposed line, with a length of 170 km, has been assessed at a cost of ₹48,692 crore
- Minister stated average yearly allocation between 2009 and 2014 stood at ₹187 crore, while in 2025–26 it is expected to be ₹4,641 crore.
- As of 1 April 2025, three new lines covering a total length of 216 km have been sanctioned in Uttarakhand at an estimated cost of ₹40,384 crore.
1365. NHAI okays 6-lane elevated corridor to ease Chennai traffic
- On August 19, 2025, it was reported the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has given its approval for the construction of a new six-lane elevated corridor from Poonamallee to Maduravoyal in Chennai. NHAI floated a tender for the 8.1-kilometer elevated corridor, with an estimated cost of Rs 1,250 crore
- In addition to the Poonamallee-Maduravoyal flyover, another 13-kilometer corridor is planned to link the Outer Ring Road (ORR) with Sriperumbudur. This project is expected to significantly reduce travel time, allowing commuters to cover a 22-kilometer distance in less than 20 minutes.
- NHAI’s infrastructure development efforts in the state also include the construction of a new four-lane Thiruvarur Bypass within the Nagapattinam-Thanjavur section of NH83. This bypass, which will be executed under the hybrid annuity model, has a project cost of Rs 796 crore.

1366. ISRO completed almost double missions in 2015-2025 than in 2005-2015: Chairman V Narayanan
- On august 21, 2025, ISRO Chairman V Narayanan said that the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has launched almost double the number of missions between 2015 to 2025 than the ones launched between 2005 to 2015 phenomenal and exponential.
- During the February 2025 to August 2025 three important missions were completed. Axiom 4 mission is a very prestigious mission, successfully accomplished. First Indian to be brought back safely from the international Space Station (ISS),
- Since the launch of rocket in 21 November 1963 from the Thumba area near Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, ISRO has launched 133 satellites missions, 102 launch vehicle missions, 5 technology demonstration mission, and 4217 rockets, and carried out 240 total number of missions. Moreover, 433 satellites of 34 countries have been launched in India.

1367. Manipur Guv inaugurates Lamangdong Ima Keithel in Bishnupur, inspects market sheds
- On August 20, 2025, Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla inaugurated the newly developed Lamangdong Ima Keithel at Bishnupur district headquarters. He inspected market sheds and interacted with local people, accompanied by MLA Govindas Konthoujam, the Deputy Commissioner, SP, senior officials, and community members.
- The inauguration showcased Manipur’s push towards local infrastructure and women-led markets. The Governor’s interaction with traders and officials highlighted efforts to strengthen community engagement and improve grassroots economic opportunities through modernized public facilities.
- Later, with the First Lady, the Governor visited Sadu Chiru Waterfall in Kangpokpi district, emphasizing its tourism potential. The Sadu Chiru Village Authority welcomed him and submitted a memorandum seeking assistance to reopen the site for visitors. District officials, including the DC and SP, were also present during the visit.

1368. India successfully test-fires Agni-5 intermediate range ballistic missile
- On August 20, 2025, India successfully test-fired the Agni-V intermediate-range ballistic missile from the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur, Odisha, under the Strategic Forces Command, validating all technical and operational parameters and advancing India’s defence preparedness.
- Designed by DRDO, the three-stage, solid-fuelled, canister-launched missile can hit targets up to 5,000 km with high accuracy. It strengthens India’s policy of credible minimum deterrence, especially against China, and confirms technological progress through advanced transportable and surface-to-surface strike capability.
- Weighing 50 tonnes, with a 1.5-tonne payload, Agni-V makes India the 8th nation with ICBM capability. First tested in 2012, it is the most advanced of the Agni series, extending beyond Agni-I to IV (700–3,500 km range). The test highlights India’s strategic strength, global defence stature, and long-range deterrence.
1369. The solar surge: India’s bold leap towards net-zero future
- On 20 August,2025, It was reported that, In July 2025, India officially surpassed Japan to become the world’s third-largest solar panel producer, generating 108,494 GWh of solar energy against Japan’s 96,459 GWh. India’s total solar capacity reached 119.02 GW through ground-mounted, rooftop, hybrid, and off-grid projects, marking a historic shift in the global renewable energy sector.
- India’s rapid rise is driven by government schemes like PM Surya Ghar, PM-KUSUM, and the Solar Parks Scheme, alongside favorable geography with high solar potential in states such as Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. 1370. Indian textile industry sees export surge: $20.7 billion to US, EU, and UK
- On , 19 August 2025, India’s textile exports to the US, EU, and UK reached $20.7 billion in the financial year ending 31 March 2025, with $10.94B to the US, $7.6B to the EU, and $2.16B to the UK. Key markets remain the US and EU, while a Free Trade Agreement with the UK is already in place.
- Growth is supported by 15 FTAs, the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme with ₹10,683 crore outlay, and technical textile initiatives like the National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM). Schemes such as RoSCTL and RoDTEP facilitate duty-free exports and reduce trade barriers, enabling competitiveness in global markets.
- Exports of technical textiles grew 15.53% to ₹24,732.68 crore. Government support includes trade fairs, buyer-seller meets, and Bharat TEX 2025, a global mega event showcasing India’s textile innovations, enhancing the country’s position as a preferred destination for sourcing, investment, and manufacturing in the textile sector.
