1051. Modi lays foundation of India’s 1st freight village:Ramnagar's project to feature modern dry-dock facility & boost inland water transport
- On September 20, 2025 Prime Minister virtually laid the foundation stone for a modern ship repair centre and India’s first freight village on the plains at Ramnagar, Varanasi.
- Being part of the 'Prosperity from the Sea' mission, the project aims to boost water transport and support a self-reliant India. Uttar Pradesh Transport Minister attended the inauguration.
- PM inaugurated a ₹200 crore multi-modal terminal at Ramnagar, Varanasi, and laid the foundation of a ₹300 crore ship repair engineering college to create jobs for Purvanchal youth.
- On this occasion, the Prime Minister also laid the online foundation stone for the country's first freight village, which will be developed in the Ralhupur area of Ramnagar. The acquisition of approximately 100 hectares of land has been completed and the project is expected to gain momentum soon.
1052. Piyush Goyal launches six initiatives to boost logistics and trade competitiveness
- On September 20, 2025, Commerce and Industry Minister launched six initiatives to mark the 10th anniversary of Make in India, unveiling a commemorative coin and strengthening India’s industrial and logistics ecosystem nationwide.
- The initiatives led by DPIIT with ADB support include Logistics Data Bank 2.0, Industrial Park Rating System 3.0, LEADS 2025, Integrated State and City Logistics Plans, HSN Code guidebook, and a logistics cost assessment report. They aim to improve infrastructure, digital tracking, and global competitiveness.
- India attracted $667 billion FDI (2014–24) and has 1.8 lakh startups with 118 unicorns. PLI schemes (₹1.97 lakh crore) and Positive Indigenisation Lists boosted defence, pharma, electronics, semiconductor, and mobile manufacturing, creating millions of jobs and reducing import dependency.

1053. Digital Agriculture Mission Launched with Rs 2,817 Crore Outlay
- India’s Union Cabinet Committee approved the Digital Agriculture Mission with an outlay of Rs 2,817 crore, including the central government’s share of Rs 1,940 crore, as per a press release by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare on September 2, 2024.
- It is an umbrella scheme aimed at supporting digital agriculture initiatives, such as creating Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), implementing the Digital General Crop Estimation Survey (DGCES), and taking up other IT initiatives by various governments.
- The new Agriculture DPI will gather information on farmers like their backgrounds, land, and crops, covering both landowners and tenant farmers, as per the state government’s plan.
- The Krishi Decision Support System will collect data on crops, soil, weather, water resources, etc., while the Soil Profile Mapping will create maps of about 142 million hectares of India’s agricultural land. A detailed soil profile inventory of about 29 million hectares has already been completed.
1054. Govt extends PMKSY till FY26 with outlay of ₹93,068 crore
- The government has extended the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY), launched in 1 July 2015 to improve farm productivity by four years till 2025-26 to complete ongoing projects. The programme entails additional spending of ₹93,068 crore.
- On 15 December 2021, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved central support of ₹37,454 crore to states and ₹20,434.56 crore for servicing debt for loans availed by the Centre for irrigation development during 2016-21.
- The government also approved the Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme (AIBP), Har Khet ko Pani (HKKP), and watershed development components of the PMKSY for four years to 2025-26. Under the AIBP, which offers financial support to irrigation projects, the government aims to extend irrigation to 1.39 million hectares by 2025-26.
- Under the HKKP, which aims to expand the cultivable area under assured irrigation, the government plans to bring 450,000 hectares under irrigation through minor projects and rejuvenation of water bodies.
1055. Pradhan Mantri Kisan Maandhan Yojana completes 5 years
- The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Maandhan Yojana (PM-KMY), launched on September 12, 2019, has successfully completed five years of providing social security to land-holding small and marginal farmers (SMFs) across India. This scheme aims to ensure a pension for farmers, offering financial support and security in their old age.
- Pradhan Mantri Kisan Maandhan Yojna (PM-KMY), is an old-age pension scheme. This is a voluntary and contributory pension scheme. Under the initiative, eligible small and marginal farmers are given a fixed monthly pension of Rs 3,000 after attaining the age of 60.
- Under PM-KMY, small and marginal farmers can enroll by paying a monthly subscription to the pension fund. Farmers aged between 18 and 40 years need to contribute between Rs 55 to Rs 200 per month until they turn 60.
- As of August 6, 2024, a total of 23.38 lakh farmers have joined the scheme. Under the scheme, Bihar leads with over 3.4 lakh registrations while Jharkhand ranks second with over 2.5 lakh registrations. Further, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha have over 2.5 lakh, 2 lakh, and 1.5 lakh farmer registrations, respectively.
1056. Empowering India's farmers: List of welfare schemes for farmers in India
- The Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF) is a financing facility established to create post-harvest management infrastructure and community farming assets. The fund aims to support farmers, cooperatives, and entrepreneurs in building infrastructure that can improve agricultural productivity and reduce post-harvest losses.
- The scheme was launched on 8th July 2020 by the Government of India. The scheme is available to a wide range of beneficiaries including Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS), Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), Self-Help Groups (SHGs), Joint Liability Groups (JLGs), and individual farmers.
- The AIF is operational for a span of 10 years from FY 2020-21 to FY 2029-30. The government has earmarked ₹1 lakh crore under this fund for infrastructure development.
- The primary focus is on creating post-harvest management infrastructure such as cold chains, silos, warehouses, food processing units, and packaging units to minimize post-harvest losses and ensure better prices for farmers.
1057. Centre launches scheme to promote natural farming
- To promote its pet project of natural farming, the Centre on Monday (November 25, 2024) launched the National Mission on Natural Farming (NMNF). NMNF will be a standalone centrally-sponsored scheme under the Ministry of Agriculture and it will have a total outlay of ₹2,481 crore.
- ₹1,584 crore will be the Centre’s share and the States will contribute ₹897 crore till the 15th Finance Commission (2025-26). The Centre said NMNF will promote natural farming in mission mode across the country.
- The Mission is designed to support farmers to reduce input cost of cultivation and dependency to externally purchased inputs. Natural farming will build and maintain healthy soil ecosystems, promote biodiversity and encourage diverse cropping systems to enhance resilience as suitable to the local agroecology are the benefits of natural farming.
- Around 18.75 lakh trained and willing farmers will prepare inputs like Jeevamrit, Beejamrit, etc. by using their livestock or procure from bio-input resource centres.
1058. Maha govt clears Rs6.2 crore for forest demarcation, Vidarbha divisions get Rs66 lakh
- On September 20, 2025, it was reported that, the Maharashtra government sanctioned ₹6.2 crore under its “Reserved Forest Survey, Demarcation and Settlement” scheme for 2025–26 to install pillars, fencing, walls, and DGPS-based mapping for strengthening forest boundaries statewide.
- The Forest Department will implement works to prevent illegal encroachments, resolve land disputes, and conserve green cover. Officials must avoid duplication, comply with the Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980, ensure strict monitoring of expenditure, and submit utilisation certificates for accountability.
- Allocations include ₹1.89 crore for Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, ₹1.56 crore for Sangli, and ₹1.16 crore for Shahapur. Vidarbha got ₹66 lakh, supporting reserves like Tadoba, Pench, and Melghat. Mumbai’s Mangrove Division received ₹34.9 lakh for coastal ecosystem protection.
1059. These Remote Regions In Jharkhand To Get Rail Connectivity For The 1st Time Since Independence
- Jharkhand have lacked the convenience of railway connectivity for decades. The locals here relied heavily on road transportation to travel to major towns and cities. Naturally, the addition of these rail links for these districts under the Ranchi division of Railways will certainly transform the region’s connectivity, economy, and overall development.
- The project has already seen crucial groundwork completed. The Jharkhand Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (JRIDCL) has also conducted a survey. The findings from this survey have been shared with the Railway Board to prepare a detailed project report (DPR).
- Gumla, Khunti, and Simdega will be connected to the existing Ranchi-Lohardaga rail line, a critical route in Jharkhand. Chatra, on the other hand, will be linked to the Ranchi-Hazaribagh rail route.
- The connectivity plan for these new railway links in Jharkhand includes 55 km rail line from Lohardaga to Gumla, a 43 km rail line from Gumla to Simdega, a 20 km rail line from Hatia to Khunti, and a 42 km rail line from Hazaribagh to Chatra.
1060. Kategoan gets bus service years after Independence
- After a 78-year wait, the first state-run bus service rolled out on a 100km stretch from Katezari to Gadchiroli, which was once the booby-trapped artery of the Red Corridor, where neither govt nor combat boots had ever set foot.
- The landmark achievement by Gadchiroli police and Maharashtra State Transport Corporation, followed the dismantling of the ‘janata sarkar' or guerrilla rule with the decimation of last standing ‘dalams' here. The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation launched the service, connecting Kategaon to the district headquarters.
- The bus service from April 26, 2025, is expected to benefit 12 surrounding villages, providing easier access to tehsil and district headquarters and was welcomed with fanfare by local tribals.
