- A number of high-profile investors are chasing to invest in Slice, a fintech startup that is attempting to expand the market for credit cards in India.
- Tiger Global is in advanced stages of talks to lead a round of over $100 million in the Bangalore-based startup
- Even as hundreds of millions of Indians today have a bank account, only about 30 million have a credit card. Most people in the South Asian market are not eligible to get a credit card, and even many of those who are don’t bother to get one because the experience of signing up is too clumsy, time consuming and the rewards don’t make up for it

23432. Air India privatisation LIVE: Winning bidder to be announced at 4 pm today; Air India may fly to Tata’s home
- Air India could finally find a new home today with either the Tata Group or SpiceJet’s Ajay Singh, after years of taxiing on the divestment runway.
- Air India is reeling under a debt of over Rs 60,000 crore. The debt-laden carrier has 127 aircraft, controlling 50.64% of the international market share when clubbed with AIXL, among Indian carriers.
- Air India currently serves 42 international destinations. The government is selling its entire stake in Air India. Tata Group already owns about 84% stake in AirAsia India and 51% in Vistara.

23433. Tata Motors to raise $1 billion to push EV play
- With Tata Motors is in advanced stages to raise $1 billion through a stock sale of its electric vehicle unit as it accelerates transition to plug-in cars.
- The proposed fund-raise will value Tata Motors’ electric vehicle unit at $8 billion and has attracted multiple private equity funds from the US, Middle East and Southeast Asia.
- In July, Tata Motors chairman N Chandrasekaran had told shareholders that the company would look to raise capital for the electric vehicle business and that it expects a quarter of sales to come from this business in the near future.

23435. सरकार का इरादा 2030 तक निजी कारों में ईवी की बिक्री हिस्सेदारी 30 प्रतिशत करने का: गडकरी
- सड़क परिवहन और राजमार्ग मंत्री नितिन गडकरी ने कहा, "सरकार का इरादा 2030 तक निजी कारों में इलेक्ट्रिक वाहनों की बिक्री हिस्सेदारी 30 प्रतिशत, वाणिज्यिक वाहनों में 70 प्रतिशत, बसों में 40 प्रतिशत और दोपहिया एवं तिपहिया वाहनों में 80 प्रतिशत करना है।
- अगर इलेक्ट्रिक वाहन बिक्री 2030 तक दोपहिया और कारों के खंड में 40 प्रतिशत और बसों के लिए 100 प्रतिशत के करीब पहुंच जाती है, तो भारत कच्चे तेल की खपत को 15.6 करोड़ टन कम करने में सक्षम होगा जिसकी कीमत 3.5 लाख करोड़ रुपये है।
- परिवहन क्षेत्र में कार्बन उत्सर्जन कम करने और अर्थव्यवस्था, पारिस्थितिकी और पर्यावरण के दृष्टिकोण से इसे सतत बनाने की तत्काल जरूरत है

23436. India expected to grow by 8.3 per cent in 2021-22: World Bank

23438. CESL achieves 50 lakhs LED bulb distribution milestone
- Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), has achieved a remarkable milestone of distributing 50 lakhs LED bulbs under ”Project Crore” of the Gram Ujala programme.
- CESL began this journey of illuminating the villages in March this year. On the National Energy Conservation Day this month, CESL achieved the feat of distributing 10 lakh bulbs in a single day.
- CESL is providing high-quality 7-Watt and 12-Watt LED bulbs with 3 years guarantee at a cost of Rs 10 per bulb in exchange for working incandescent bulbs. Every household can exchange a maximum of 5 bulbs. The distribution has resulted in energy savings of 71,99,68,373.28 units per year with cost savings of Rs 250 crores per year in the rural areas of states where the scheme is being implemented.
23439. From Arunachal to Ladakh, India strengthens its border along China with inauguration of 24 bridges and three roads
- Built by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), of the 24 bridges, nine are in Jammu and Kashmir; five each in Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh; three in Uttarakhand and one each in Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh. Of the three roads, two are in Ladakh and one is in West Bengal.
- The e-inauguration has taken the tally of infrastructure projects executed by BRO to a record 102 in a single working season.
- The BRO has completed the construction in a record timeframe, with state-of-the-art technology used in most of them. Earlier in June, Singh had dedicated to the nation 12 roads and 63 bridges – totalling 75 projects - in the 75th year of Independence under the aegis of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’.
23440. 5G network to roll out in India by 2022, will be available in metro cities first, says DoT
- DoT noted that the 5G network will first be available in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Gandhinagar, Gurugram, Hyderabad, Jamnagar, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, and Pune.
- Earlier this year, 5G trials were carried out in most of these cities by telecom operators Airtel, Jio and Vi.DoT noted that 13 cities across the country will get 5G in the beginning.5G technology is expected to deliver an improved user experience in terms of data download rates.
- “Costing Rs 224 crore, the project is likely to be completed by December 31, 2021, paving the way for end-to-end testing of 5G (/topic/5g) User Equipments (UEs) and network equipment by 5G (/topic/5g) stakeholders developing 5G (/topic/5g) products/services/use cases, including indigenous start-ups, SMEs, Academia and Industry in the country," DoT said.
