21691. Microsoft in talks to invest in ShareChat
- ShareChat is in talks with Microsoft Corp. for an investment of around $100 million in the Indian content sharing platform
- If the deal materializes, the Microsoft investment will be about a third of what ShareChat is looking to raise in the latest funding round.
- ShareChat had last raised $100 million from Twitter, which pegged the valuation of the startup at $650 million.
21692. Indian Army to buy 6 indigenous weapon-locating Swathi radars for over ₹400cr
- In a boost to Make in India in the defence sector, six more Swathi weapon-locating radars developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) are likely to be procured for Indian Army.
- The case for acquisition of six Swathi weapon-locating radars worth over ₹400 crore is scheduled to be taken up in a defence ministry meeting likely to be held tomorrow, defence sources told ANI.
- The weapon-locating radars developed by the DRDO and built by Bharat Electronics Limited had achieved a major success as they were supplied to a foreign country also.
21693. Blackstone set to acquire Rs 12,745 crore of Prestige assets
- US private equity giant Blackstone Group is set to acquire property developer Prestige Group’s rental income assets for more than $1.7 billion (Rs 12,745 crore) in the largest real estate portfolio buyout in India
- If the deal goes through, Prestige will use the money to repay all of its debt and deploy the rest as equity capital for growth.
- It will be Blackstone’s single largest realty investment in the country and will also eclipse the $1-billion raised through listing of India’s two real estate investment trusts (REITs) — Embassy and Mindspace Business Parks.
21694. Govt to unveil more steps to attract investment in defence sector: Rajnath
- Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday said the government will unveil more steps to attract investment in defence manufacturing so that India can produce world-class military platforms and weapons systems.
- While kick-starting 'Atmanirbhar Week' in the defence sector on Monday, Singh said self-reliance in this field is a tall task which needs wholehearted involvement of all stakeholders to make it successful.
- The defence minister's comments came after he unveiled new infrastructure and facilities in a number of leading state-run defence majors to enhance their production lines and capabilities.
21695. NHAI to build 22 expressways with Rs 3.3 lakh crore investment, forms SPVs to meet fund requirement
- The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has finalised a plan to build 22 expressways with an investment of Rs 3.3 lakh crore. The authority has also decided to form Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) to meet this huge fund requirement, according to sources.
- Under this mega plan, the NHAI board has approved the first SPV for Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, which will be wholly owned by the highways authority The Expressway projects of shorter lengths, in the range of 50-150 km, will be clubbed as one and a single SPV will be formed for Expressway projects having shorter lengths.
- For bigger length expressways of 300- 400 km and more will have dedicated SPV. In the first SPV formed for Delhi-Mumbai Expressway worth Rs 45,000 crore, the NHAI will infuse Rs 5000 crore while the rest Rs 40,000 crore will be taken as loan from market.
21696. As many as 13 investors put in EoIs for acquiring Reliance Commercial Finance
- As many as 13 global and domestic investors have submitted expressions of interest for acquiring Reliance Commercial Finance Ltd (RCFL) Lenders led by Bank of Baroda had invited bids for RCFL to recover unpaid loans and the last date of submitting the EoI was August 11.
- Capri Global, India RF, JM Finance ARC, Edelweiss ARC, UV ARC, Urgo Capital, ARCIL, Authum Investment & Infra Ltd, Assets Care and Reconstruction Enterprise, CFM ARC, Invest ARC, Rare ARC and International Asset Reconstruction Company submitted expressions of interest (EoIs).
- The bid process is being run by Deloitte as the resolution advisor, and interested parties were to submit an expression of interest (EoI) by August 11, according to the notice.

21697. Indian Railways' private train project on fast track as 23 firms including Bombardier, Alstom show interest
- The Indian Railways’ plan to run private trains in the country is getting the attention of both domestic and international players like Alston, Bombardier, GMR ,L&T. As many as 23 companies participated in an official pre-application online conference for running private trains on 12 clusters.
- Among international players Bombardier, Alstom, Siemens attended a conference while among domestic players which showed interest include BEML, IRCTC, Sterlite, GMR Infra, Medha Group, JKB Infrastructure, Bharat Forge, BEML, L&T Infra and Titagarh Wagons.
- The Railways ministry organized its first pre-application conference on private train project Tuesday which was attended by around 16 prospective applicants. For the first time, ever private players will be allowed to run passenger train services on 109 routes through induction of 151 trains. The project would entail an investment of Rs 30,000 crore and is expected to boost domestic manufacturing inline with the government’s 'Make in India' pitch.
21698. ByteDance in talks with India's Reliance for investment in TikTok: Report
- China's ByteDance is in early talks with Reliance Industries Ltd for an investment in its video-based app TikTok's business in India, TechCrunch reported on Thursday, citing sources.
- The two companies began conversations late last month and have not reached a deal yet, according to the report.
- Microsoft Corp has been in talks to acquire the U.S. operations of the video-sharing app.
21699. Micromax 'मेड इन इंडिया' स्मार्टफोन के साथ जल्द करने वाली है वापसी, कंपनी ने दिया संकेत
- Micromax ने 74वें स्वतंत्रता दिवस के मौके पर अपने आधिकारिक ट्विटर अकाउंट पर वीडियो के साथ एक पोस्ट शेयर किया किया।
- कंपनी ने स्पष्ट तौर पर खुलासा किया है कि वह जल्द ही भारत में नए स्मार्टफोन्स लॉन्च करने वाली है। इसके साथ ही कंपनी के को-फाउंडर राहुल शर्मा ने भी अपने ट्वीट में लिखा है कि 'आइए नई शुरुआत करें।' इससे स्पष्ट होता है कि कंपनी बाजार में वापसी करने की तैयारी कर ली है और जल्द ही Micromax के नए स्मार्टफोन देखने को मिलेंगे।
- पिछले दिनों सामने आई रिपोर्ट में जानकारी दी गई थी कि Micromax भारतीय बाजार में लो बजट रेंज स्मार्टफोन्स के साथ वापसी करेगी और कंपनी एक साथ तीन स्मार्टफोन पेश करेगी।
21700. In likely loss for China, 24 companies plan to set up mobile phone factories in India
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government in March announced incentives that make niche firms -- electronics manufacturers -- eligible for a payment of 4%-6% of their incremental sales over the next five years.
- The result: about two dozen companies pledged $1.5 billion of investments to set up mobile-phone factories in the country. Besides Samsung, those that have shown interest are Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., known as Foxconn, Wistron Corp. and Pegatron Corp. India has also extended similar incentives to the pharmaceutical sector, and plans to cover more sectors, which may include automobiles, textiles, and food processing under the program.
- Vietnam remains the most favored destination, followed by Cambodia, Myanmar, Bangladesh and Thailand, according to a recent survey by Standard Chartered Plc.
