21641. How this Harvard Business School alum wants to solve India’s work-readiness crisis
- Founded in 2013 by Shveta Raina, Talerang offers customised career training to students and professionals with one aim: creating a work-ready India. It aims to upskill 20 million students by 2020.
- The startup began with training only college students but now has programmes for candidates from the age of 13 to 30. It went from training 100 students in the first year to over 100,000 trained through tie-ups with various colleges, universities, corporates and non-profits in about six years.
- Talerang’s copyrighted curriculum was researched as an independent project at Harvard Business School. Its training methodology integrates Harvard cases, proprietary assessments, interaction with guest speakers, industry exposure, and personal mentoring for holistic professional development.

- How does it work?: If you are a parent who wishes to help children learn to manage finance, you can download the application on play store or app store. Once it is downloaded, by entering a valid PAN card number you can create an account for yourself and your child. An existing bank account (of the parent) is linked with the application to deposit the pocket money.After paying a registration fee of Rs 499 a card is issued and delivered via post within a few days.On the app, there are different logins for the parent and child so that children can set their own goals and view goals assigned to them. On the parents’ version, there is a view of daily expenditure made by the child, the amount they have saved, and set finance goals for them.
- About the finance startup - While research for the finance application started in March 2019, the company was formally launched in August 2019. The application was developed in-house and officially launched in August 2020.Headquartered in Hyderabad, the startup was bootstrapped by the four and it also received a grant from HDFC bank last year.

21648. India to plan tax holiday to win new investments
- The trade ministry is proposing a tax holiday for companies bringing new investments as the government explores measures to support the economy amid the coronavirus pandemic, according to people familiar with the matter.
- The proposal to give a 10-year full tax exemption to companies making new investment upwards of $500 million is being evaluated by the finance ministry, said the people, who asked not to be identified citing rules.
- A lower corporate tax rate of 10% is proposed for the next six years. The proposal has to be approved by the finance ministry and, so far, it hasn’t taken a decision. The trade ministry has also identified top 50 industry clusters to upgrade their existing infrastructure, testing labs and research and development facilities.

- PlayShifu, which uses Augmented Reality (AR) to provide educational games for kids, has seen a phenomenal growth since the lockdown began. Between March and April this year, the startup witnessed 20 percent surge in demand for its smart toys, and the educational toys category saw a 200 percent growth. Overall, PlayShifu saw a 300 percent increase in demand for its products.
- In the last two and a half years, the US and Bengaluru-based startup, with a core product team of 50 people, has created 12 products with unique phygital (physical+digital) interactions. These products are designed for kids aged between 4-12 years and helps them build STEM and other foundational skills such as critical thinking, engineering, and geography.

- राज्य मैन्यूफैक्चरिंग पार्क लगाने में भी गहरी दिलचस्पी दिखा रहे हैं। वहां की सरकारें सिंगल विंडो विकसित करने के साथ कई साहसिक कदम उठा रही हैं। विदेशी कंपनियां राज्य में ही अपनी मैन्युफैक्चरिंग यूनिट लगाएंगी, जहां निवेशकों को राज्यों के नियम कानून के मुताबिक चलना होता है।
- सूत्रों के मुताबिक इन राज्यों के अलावा हिमाचल प्रदेश, तेलंगाना, आंध्र प्रदेश व राजस्थान भी श्रम कानून सुधार करने वालों की सूची में शामिल हो सकते हैं। सूत्रों के मुताबिक बिहार में नई औद्योगिक नीति आ रही है। वहां भी श्रम कानून में बदलाव लाया जा सकता है।
- बताया कि हिमाचल प्रदेश ने दवा निर्माण से जुड़े एक्टिव फार्मास्यूटिकल्स इंग्रिडिएंट्स (एपीआइ) के उत्पादन के लिए एपीआइ पार्क विकसित करने का प्रस्ताव रखा है। इस दिशा में काम किया जा रहा है। महाराष्ट्र, उत्तर प्रदेश जैसे राज्य इस प्रकार की मैन्यूफैक्चरिंग को लेकर पहले से ही दिलचस्पी दिखा रहे है।
