- On February 12, 2026 It was reported that, In 2025 India recorded a record 36.6 GW of new solar power capacity, up about 43 % from 25.6 GW in 2024, marking the highest annual solar installation ever for the country and surpassing 30 GW in a single year.
- Large-scale solar projects, including open-access installations, accounted for nearly 81 % of the 36.6 GW, while rooftop solar made up over 19 %. Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Maharashtra were the top states for new large-scale capacity in 2025.
- India’s cumulative installed solar capacity reached about 136 GW by December 2025. Solar contributed 68 % of the total 57 GW of new power capacity added in 2025. Despite strong growth, challenges such as curtailment, delays in equipment and power purchase agreements were noted.
