451. India’s AYUSH Exports Surge to $689 Million in 2024–25, Up 6.1%
- On Jnuary 4,2026,it as reported that India’s AYUSH and herbal products exports rose 6.11% in 2024–25, reaching $688.89 million from $649.2 million in 2023–24, reflecting growing global demand.
- The Ayush Export Promotion Council, celebrating its 4th anniversary in New Delhi on Jan 4, 2026, boosted exports via capacity building, export facilitation, and international trade events.

452. Apple’s iPhone Exports from India Cross $50 Billion Under PLI Scheme

453. India backs 24 new chip design projects to strengthen semiconductor ecosystem
- O January 4, 2026, the Centre has approved 24 chip design projects covering areas such as video surveillance, drone detection, energy meters, microprocessors, satellite communications, and broadband and IoT Systems-on-Chip (SoCs) under the Design Linked Incentive (DLI) Scheme.
- Alongside this, 95 companies have been provided access to industry-grade Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools, helping bring down design and infrastructure expenses for Indian semiconductor design start-ups.
- The Design Linked Incentive (DLI) Scheme is being implemented by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) with an outlay of Rs 76,000 crore. The programme supports investments in semiconductor and display manufacturing as well as the design ecosystem.
- The Chips to Startup (C2S) Programme, being implemented, is an initiative aimed at academic organisations spread across the country to generate 85,000 industry-ready manpower at B.Tech, M.Tech, and PhD levels, specialised in semiconductor chip design.

454. India's First Underwater Road-Rail Tunnel Beneath Brahmaputra River In Assam Gets Central Panel Nod: Report
- On January 3, 2026, the Central government gave in-principle approval for India’s first twin-tube underwater road-rail tunnel under the Brahmaputra in Assam between Gohpur and Numaligarh, which will cut travel distance from about 240 km to 34 km and boost connectivity to Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and the wider Northeast.
- The 15.8 km tunnel (part of a 33.7 km project) will include one tube for an electrified railway line and another for road traffic, built around 32 metres below the riverbed, at an estimated cost of ₹18,600 crore funded by the road, rail and defence ministries.
- The project has major strategic and economic value, enabling faster military deployment in emergencies and improving civilian transport, with final Cabinet approval expected before construction begins and completion targeted within five years of work award.
455. Andhra emerges as India's top investment destination, secures 25.3% of proposed capital in FY26
- On january 4, 2026, it was reported that Andhra Pradesh topped India’s investment destinations, attracting 25.3% of all proposed investments in FY26 so far, ahead of Odisha and Maharashtra, driven by investor-friendly policies, fast approvals, and strong infrastructure.
- National investment intentions rose to ₹26.6 lakh crore (up 11.5%), with power (especially renewables), metals, roads, and ports leading, supported by government capex, tax reforms, and easing interest rates.
- The report notes that over half (51.2 per cent) of India's total proposed capital investment is concentrated in Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Maharashtra. Nationwide, investment announcements reached Rs 26.6 lakh crore in the period, up 11.5 per cent year-on-year.
- The other states which had witnessed significant investment intentions are Tamil Nadu (4.9 per cent), Rajasthan (4.3 per cent), Chhattisgarh (3.9 per cent), Madhya Pradesh (3.2 per cent), and Uttar Pradesh (2.7 per cent).

456. Chief of Defence Staff Inaugurates Redeveloped Strategic Runway at Car Nicobar
- On January 4, 2026, chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, SM, VSM, ADC, inaugurated a newly redeveloped strategic runway at Air Force Station Car Nicobar during his two-day visit to the Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC), underscoring India’s focus on strengthening defence infrastructure in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
- he inauguration of the redeveloped runway, along with associated upgraded aviation infrastructure, marks a significant milestone in enhancing the operational capability of the islands.
- The upgraded runway will substantially augment air operations, including the operation of fighter aircraft, and improve the induction, housing, and sustenance of frontline combat assets, thereby enhancing India’s air power projection in the region.

457. Indian Army signs Rs 293 crore deal for indigenous long-range rocket launcher ‘Suryastra’
- On January 3, 2026, the Indian Army has signed a Rs 293 crore contract with Pune-based private defence manufacturer NIBE Ltd., in collaboration with Israeli defence major Elbit Systems, for the supply of an advanced long-range rocket launcher system, ‘Suryastra’, under emergency procurement powers.
- The system features strike capabilities of 150 km and 300 km, significantly enhancing the Army’s deep-strike artillery firepower and operational reach.
- Suryastra, India’s first Made-in-India universal multicalibre rocket launcher, can engage multiple targets simultaneously and has demonstrated a circular error probable (CEP) of less than five metres in trials.
458. Chief of the Army Staff, General Upendra Dwivedi proceeds on visit to UAE and Sri Lanka to strengthen defence cooperation

- During his visit, the Army Chief will call on senior leadership of the UAE Armed Forces, including the Commander of the UAE Land Forces and visit key military establishments. General Dwivedi will also visit the UAE National Defence College.

459. Mobile solar-powered millet processing unit inaugurated at Gundri
- On January 03, 2026, A mobile solar-powered millet processing unit was inaugurated recently at Gundri in Kadambur hills in Erode, with the objective of ensuring food security for tribal communities and improving the livelihoods of tribal women.
- The unit was inaugurated by P. Sivakumar under the StartupTN Scheme, designed by Oscar Solar Pump with CSR support from Vivriti Capital, operating fully on solar energy.
- Built at ₹23.5 lakh with 9 HP capacity, the unit processes ragi and thinai through cleaning, milling, grading, and solar drying; it will benefit over 1,500 tribal families and empower women SHGs with training and income opportunities.
460. Bihar CM launches scheme to ensure ease of living for senior citizens
- On January 03, 2026, in Bihar, Chief Minister launched the “Sabaka Sammaan–Jeevan Aasaan” initiative to make the lives of senior citizens easier and more dignified.
- Under the programme, the Bihar government will deliver healthcare services such as home pathology tests, BP and ECG checks, physiotherapy, nursing care, and emergency medical support directly to senior citizens at their homes.
- The initiative is part of Saat Nishchay 3 (2025–2030); guidelines have been issued to the Health Department, and citizens have been invited to suggest additional measures to further support elderly welfare.
