1911. India Built the World’s Largest Missile Launcher In-House”: DRDO Scientist Sudhir Kumar Mishra on BrahMos
- On 18 May, 2025, it was reported that India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) had developed the world’s largest missile launcher and made significant progress on an indigenous hypersonic missile capable of reaching speeds between Mach 7 and Mach 8 using a domestically built scramjet engine.
- The BrahMos missile program, which began in 2001, had evolved into a globally recognized system, with multiple variants and a new, lighter Next Generation (NG) version in development, designed for deployment from a wider range of platforms.
- These advancements marked a major step in India’s journey toward defence self-reliance, showcasing its ability to design and produce complex strategic systems and positioning the country as a key player in global missile technology.
1912. Uttrakhand cm launches e-RUPI system, agricultural policies for farmers
- On 17 May 2025, Chief minister of uttrakhand inaugurated ‘e-RUPI' system at the Secretariat in Dehradun. Along with this, he launched four agricultural policies: the kiwi policy, dragon fruit policy, post-harvest apple management plan, and the millet mission.
- The e-RUPI system will become a transparent, fast, and intermediary-free digital payment method for farmers. Under this system, the subsidy amount in pilot projects will be sent directly to farmers' mobiles via e-vouchers (SMS or QR code), which they can use to purchase fertilisers, seeds, medicines, etc
- The objective of these initiatives is to strengthen agriculture and employment in the state's hilly and plain areas, effectively controlling issues like migration. These schemes will prove to be milestones in making Uttarakhand a self-reliant, empowered, and leading agricultural state.

- The Digital Lounge at Mumbai Central is set to become a benchmark for future developments across the Indian Railways network—turning stations into dynamic, multifunctional spaces that serve the diverse needs of modern travellers.
1914. Airbots Aerospace gets boost from IIT Bombay’s TIH
- On 17 May 2025, It was reported that, Airbots Aerospace has received a strategic investment from the Technology Innovation Hub (TIH) Foundation at IIT Bombay.
- The partnership will help Airbots accelerate R&D in advanced drones, AI-powered software, and integrated payloads for use in agriculture, infrastructure, and defence.
- This investment and collaboration with TIH Foundation enable us to address gaps in India’s drone ecosystem with innovative, locally developed solutions,” said Danish Ghori, Co-Founder and Managing Director of Airbots Aerospace.
1915. 12 smart roads inaugurated in Thiruvananthapuram city as part of infrastructure boost
- A total of 12 smart roads, developed as part of a major infrastructure development initiative in the city, were inaugurated on 16 May,2025. The event, held at Manaveeyam Veedhi, was presided over by minister for general education.
- Along with the event, 60 roads renovated by the public works department (PWD) across all 14 districts were also inaugurated virtually, marking a significant step in the state's infrastructure goals.
- In the state capital, 12 smart roads have been completed with features that reflect Kerala's vision for a technologically integrated and sustainable future.

1916. UP Govt partners with Indian Railways to develop Multi-Modal Logistics Hubs, Enhance Industrial Connectivity
- To strengthen Uttar Pradesh’s logistics ecosystem and establish it as an industrial powerhouse, Invest UP and Indian Railways signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 14 may,2025 at Lok Bhavan.
- The agreement was signed by Vijay Kiran Anand, CEO of Invest UP, and Rajneesh Kumar Srivastava, Senior Divisional Operations Manager, Lucknow Division.
- As per the MoU, at least one stage of raw material or finished goods transportation must be carried out via rail. To encourage private investment, the Indian Railways will offer its land to logistics and warehousing investors on a 35-year lease at just 1.5 per cent of the industrial or circle rate.
1917. Indian Railway Board Approves ₹165 Crore Karhi–Sagma Chord Line To Boost Connectivity In Madhya Pradesh
- On 17 May 2025, The Railway Board has approved an important new rail line project under West Central Railway (WCR) zone.
- The proposed chord rail line is 5.31 km long between Karhi and Sagma, this new rail line project has been approved at a cost of Rs 165.20 crore. This is an important step in the development of railway projects aimed at increasing connectivity in the state.
- The rail link will promote regional trade, mobility and access to resources. The construction of the Karhi to Sagma chord rail line will strengthen the tourist connectivity of important states of Madhya Pradesh, Satna, Panna and Khajuraho. Satna and Panna are industrial cities, which have abundant cement and mineral industries, connecting many parts of Madhya Pradesh.
1918. Delhi-Meerut Rapid Rail project: 200-tonne steel span placed on Barapula viaduct
- The Delhi–Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) project had overcome the biggest hurdle falling on the route by establishing a 220-tonne steel span for a key viaduct over the Barapula drain near Sarai Kale Khan, officials said on 15 May 2025.
- Each steel girder is about 40-meters-long and weighs 50 tonnes. They were installed during night with the help of three high capacity cranes through a two-stage lifting process.
- The NCRTC aims to fully open the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Corridor to the general public by 2025 end, making travel more comfortable, faster and safer.

1919. Karnataka to receive electric buses under PM E-Drive:
- On 16 May 2025, Union Heavy Industries Minister H D Kumaraswamy said Karnataka will receive electric buses in a "phased and prioritised manner" under the Centre's flagship PM E-Drive Scheme .
- Over 14,000 electric buses are to be allocated to nine major cities under the initiative

1920. India-EU Launch ₹391 Crore Joint Research Initiative on Marine Pollution and Green Hydrogen
- On 15 May 2025, the Government of India and the European Commission officially launched two major collaborative research calls under the TTC framework.
- With a joint funding of approximately ₹391 crore (~€41 million), the two coordinated research calls aim to address Marine Plastic Litter (MPL) and Waste to Green Hydrogen (W2GH) through collaborative innovation between Indian and European researchers.
- The calls aim to combat marine pollution and promote waste-to-hydrogen technology. These joint initiatives reflect the growing momentum of India-EU partnership in addressing global environmental challenges and promoting sustainable energy transitions.
