1701. Indian Railways updates tatkal booking: Aadhaar, OTP must from today
- On June 1, 2025, Indian Railways makes Aadhaar authentication mandatory for Tatkal ticket bookings, passengers will also need to verify their identity using an OTP sent to their Aadhaar linked mobile number.
- Reservation charts will now be prepared 8 hours before a train scheduled departure instead of the current 4 hours, helping passengers get earlier confirmation of their booking or waitlist status.
- A slight fare hike will come into effect 1 paisa per kilometer for non AC coaches and 2 paisa per kilometer for AC coaches.
1702. US-China tariff war opens door for India to emerge as global toy export hub
- on 13 April President of the Toy Association of India announced that India’s toy exports rose from $40 million (2014-15) to $152 million (2023-24). US toy market worth $41.7 billion a great opportunity for India competes with China on price and quality. supported by policy changes and quality improvement efforts under the Make in India initiative.
- The U.S. has imposed a 145% tariff on Chinese toy imports (earlier accounted for 77% of U.S. toy imports), opening a major opportunity for India to become a global toy export hub.
- Toy imports from China to India dropped sharply from $235 million in FY20 to $41 million in FY24 due to stricter import controls and domestic production scaling up

1703. Assam CM inaugurates Rs 3-crore development projects in Dharapur
- On June 30, 2025, Assam Chief Minister inaugurated Rs 3 crore development projects, including a community hall and library, at the historic Durga temple in Dharapur, emphasising community consent for development initiatives.
- The first phase, costing Rs 60 lakh, covers 5,000 square feet, with an additional Rs 40 lakh assured for timely progress, and the second phase will expand the facility to 15,000 square feet based on local input.
- Speaking at the event, CM addressed local concerns, including the Kulsi hydroelectric project and a logistics park at Dora Beel, stressing that development requires public approval.

1704. Indian Railways Introduces Onboard Shopping on 125 Trains
- The Jaipur division of North Western Railway has launched a new initiative in 125 trains to enhance passenger convenience, as passengers can now purchase essential daily-use items during their train journey.
- Authorised vendors in uniform will be present on these trains, providing passengers with items such as soap, toothbrushes, sanitary pads, diapers, mobile chargers, USB cables, stationery, cosmetics, children’s clothing, and toys directly at their seats, and are permitted to sell goods only until 9 pm.
- On the one hand, it will provide passengers with necessary items on the train itself, while on the other hand, it will help control unauthorised vendors.
1705. India launches MY Bharat 2.0 portal to bridge gaps in jobs, skilling and civic engagement
- On June 30, 2025, at Electronics Niketan, New Delhi , the Department of Youth Affairs and Digital India Corporation signed an MoU to launch the MY Bharat 2.0 platform, aimed at enhancing youth skilling and engagement.
- The initiative builds on the government’s earlier Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat) platform, which was launched in 2023 as a unified portal to bring together youth engagement programmes.
- The platform was designed to help young Indians navigate career guidance, jobs, internships, community service, and mentorship, making it a smart, inclusive, and responsive national digital initiative.
1706. India pavilion inaugurated in New York to celebrate 200 Years of Assam Tea
- On June 29, 2025, Assam’s Chief Secretary inaugurated the India Pavilion at New York’s Summer Fancy Food Show, marking 200 years of Assam Tea’s global journey and showcasing Assam’s tea heritage and innovation.
- In 2024-25, Assam exported over 100 million kg of tea to more than 90 countries, generating nearly $285 million, with major markets including the UK, Russia, UAE, Germany, Iraq, and China, supported by the Guwahati Tea Auction Centre’s 250 million kg annual trade.
- The Assam government also announced plans for a 'Heritage to Wellness' Tea Showcase across the US, MoUs with American universities and retailers, and future collaborations using AI and blockchain to improve traceability and sustainability in the tea trade.

1707. Tamil Nadu Rolls Out Rural Roads And Housing Push, Centre Funds Rs 1,837 Crore Under PM Gram Sadak Yojana
- On June 30, 2025, Tamil Nadu government has sanctioned ₹8,000 crore to develop 20,000 km of village roads under the Mudalvarin Grama Saalaigal Membattu Thittam scheme with nearly 12,600 km completed so far.
- Central and state funds are being used to build more than 4,180 km of rural roads and 83 bridges across nearly every district through the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana.
- The scheme targets rural hamlets in all districts aiming to eliminate hut dwellings by 2030. Over 72,000 homes have been completed and up to 200,000 are planned across the state.

1708. NLC India to Develop 450 MW Wind-Solar Hybrid Power Project
- On June 30, 2025, NLC India has secured a Letter of Award from NTPC to build a 450 MW inter state wind solar hybrid project under a 25 year Power Purchase Agreement.
- The project will be spread across two locations, 300 MW in Bikaner, Rajasthan and 150 MW in Bhuj, Gujarat showcasing a strategic regional approach.
- NLC aims to get the full hybrid power capacity up and running within 24 months from the PPA signing, underscoring a swift push into renewable energy.
1709. Tripura CM Manik Saha Inaugurates Cyber Crime Police Station, Urges Public Vigilance And Training
- On June 29, 2025, Tripura Chief Minister inaugurated a Cyber Crime Police Station in A.D. Nagar, Agartala, emphasising the need for public awareness and technical training to combat rising cybercrimes like digital arrests and financial fraud
- CM highlighted the complexity of cybercrime, likening it to “fighting with shadows,” and noted the operational 24-hour state helpline (112) and national helpline (1930) to address issues like OTP scams and data theft
- The police station, staffed with SP and Deputy SP rank officers, aims to strengthen Tripura’s response to cyber threats, with ongoing officer training and a call for vigilance in border areas.

1710. DRDO's Light Tank ‘Zorawar’ Completes High-Altitude Trials, Extended Range up to 150 km
- On 29 June 2025, It was reported that, DRDO, along with Indian industry, brought three key defence projects—Zorawar Light Tank, Extended-Range Pinaka MBRL, and FICV—to their final trial stages, aimed for Army deployment in high-altitude regions like Ladakh and North Sikkim.
- The 25-ton Zorawar Light Tank, named after Dogra General Zorawar Singh, featured amphibious capabilities, completed high-altitude trials, and was ready for user trials. Costing ₹50–60 crore per unit, the Army placed an initial order for 60 tanks, with a total requirement of 300.
- The indigenous projects, addressing mobility, firepower, and infantry transport needs, marked a major step towards self-reliance (Atmanirbhar Bharat) in the defence sector, offering the Army modern, terrain-specific and longer-range combat capabilities.
