1401. IIT Madras Inks Rs 1-Crore Deal To License India's First Silicon Photonic QRNG To Industry
- On 18 August, 2025 , IIT Madras signed a ₹1 crore licensing agreement with Indrarka Quantum Technologies to commercially deploy India’s first indigenously developed silicon photonics-based Quantum Random Number Generator (QRNG). The technology was developed at IIT Madras’ Centre for Programmable Photonic Integrated Circuits and Systems (CPPICS).
- The QRNG is a critical building block for secure computing and communication, with earlier prototypes tested by DRDO and SETS Chennai for defence and quantum security use. The indigenous innovation underscores India’s push for self-reliance in quantum technologies, combining academic R&D with industry partnerships to accelerate deployment.
- The technology has applications in military IT security, cryptography, quantum key distribution, financial transactions, blockchain, OTPs, gaming, and simulations. Leaders from IIT Madras, MeitY, and Indrarka emphasized its role in advancing India’s quantum innovation ecosystem, boosting the ‘Make in India’ initiative, and strengthening India’s position in global quantum security leadership.
1402. Mizoram Launches First Health ATMs At Civil Hospital Lunglei And PHC Lungsen
- In a landmark initiative in public healthcare, 'Health ATMs' were inaugurated at two medical establishments in Mizoram on 18 August,2025, an official said.
- The 'Health ATMs', equipped with modern diagnostic tools, will enable citizens to instantly get their vital health parameters such as blood pressure, blood sugar, BMI and oxygen levels checked by health officials.
- The facilities were unveiled at Lunglei Civil Hospital and Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Lungsen village under the district administration's 'Healthy Lunglei Initiative', Health Minister said.

1403. Tripura rail infra gets boost with commissioning of Teliamura traction sub-station
- On 18 August,2025 traction sub-stations at Udaipur (Gomati district) and Teliamura (Khowai district) were commissioned, bringing Tripura’s railway network under electrified operations. The projects were completed in the presence of railway and TSECL officials, enabling the introduction of electric train services in the state.
- The move is part of the Centre’s mission to expand railway electrification nationwide. By replacing diesel services with electric trains, the initiative will improve efficiency, reduce operational costs, and cut carbon emissions, ensuring smoother and more reliable train operations across Tripura.
- Apart from rail transport benefits, the project will strengthen local power supply stability in Teliamura and adjoining areas, aiding residents and commuters. Gradual commissioning of traction sub-stations will boost transport infrastructure and contribute to sustainable development in the northeastern region.

1404. Indian Railways commissions first removable solar panel system between tracks
- The Ministry of Railways on 18 August, 2025, announced a milestone in green energy innovation with the commissioning of India’s first 70-metre removable solar panel system (28 panels, 15KWp) between railway tracks—a step towards green and sustainable rail transport.”
- In another development, Western Railway on August 12, 2025 successfully commissioned and energised the country’s first 2×25 kV Electric Traction System at the Nagda–Khachrod section under the Ratlam Division.
- The system, which includes two Scott-connected 100 MVA power transformers, is designed to ensure efficient feeding of electrical load to the overhead equipment (OHE).
1405. BEL exports $106 million defence, non-defence products, services
- On 18 August 2025, It was reported that, For the year ended March 2025, Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) achieved an all-time high export of $106.17 million in defence and non-defence products, marking a 14.18% rise over the previous year. Major markets include France, Spain, USA, UK, Israel, Sweden, Mauritius, Armenia, Sri Lanka, Seychelles, and SEZs.
- The increase in export sales resulted from concerted efforts with foreign OEMs, customised solutions, proactive offerings, and on-time delivery. BEL acquired export orders worth $54.16 million from countries like France, USA, Sweden, and SEZs, leveraging long-term customer relationships and collaboration with Indian and foreign OEMs.
- BEL is exploring civilian product opportunities in AI, software, civil aviation radars, solar solutions, and electronics manufacturing. The company focuses on offset business, contract manufacturing, and technology transfer under 'Make in India', while establishing itself in the global supply chain of Thales, SAAB, and Elbit Systems, enhancing co-development and global partnerships.

1406. Pune-based Astrophel Aerospace inks MoU with IN-SPACe for reusable rocket development
- On August, 18 2025, Pune-based space tech startup Astrophel Aerospace signed a MoU with IN-SPACe to collaborate on reusable launch vehicle technology and cryogenic propulsion systems in India, gaining access to ISRO facilities for subsystem testing, technical reviews, and certification of propulsion components.
- The collaboration aims to enable flexible, affordable launch access across India. Astrophel plans to leverage ISRO expertise for design validation and test campaigns, building on its semi-cryogenic rocket engine milestone achieved independently at a record-low cost of ₹6 lakh.
- Astrophel is preparing for its first suborbital launch and developing a reusable hopper prototype under its Astra launch vehicle programme in 24–36 months. The startup raised ₹6.84 crore in seed funding, with $5 million more underway, targeting applications in space, defence, and energy, emphasizing modular, reusable, and indigenous propulsion systems.

1407. Soil Health Cards distributed; Govt releases Rs1,706 cr for scheme
- On 17 August 2025, it was reported that, More than 25 crore Soil Health Cards have been distributed to farmers (till July) to promote the balanced use of fertilisers and support better soil management across the country, according to the latest government data.
- By February 2025, a total of Rs 1,706.18 crore has been provided to states and Union Territories to support the Soil Health Card scheme.
- The scheme helps farmers understand what their soil needs through regular testing and provides guidance every 2 years. Each card gives farmers a clear picture of the nutrient status of their land.
1408. Govt signs MoU with apparel giants to drive textile growth
- On August,17 2025, It was reported that, CM of Madhya Pradesh on 14 August ,2025 held a roundtable with international sourcing heads of leading apparel brands, sealing an MoU with the Brand & Sourcing Leaders' Association (BSL) to boost investment in the state's textile sector.
- Addressing the gathering at CM House here, he said the state had put PM Five 'F' Vision - Farm to Fibre, Fibre to Factory, Factory to Fashion, and Fashion to Foreign - into practice, and was on course to become a global hub for apparel and textiles.
- The textile and garment sector is empowering farmers, women, youth, and the underprivileged," Minister said. Even before the groundbreaking, letters of intent for investments worth over Rs 16,000 crore have been received. "So far, the state has attracted investments of more than Rs 3,513 crore in the textile sector

1409. Samsung steps up ‘Make in India’ game, begins laptop manufacturing at Noida unit
- On 17 August,205 It was reported that, Samsung has expanded its manufacturing portfolio. It has started manufacturing laptops in India at its Greater Noida factory. It has plans to start manufacturing more devices in the country
- The South Korean electronics major already makes feature phones, smartphones, wearables, and tablets at its Greater Noida plant. Now, laptops have been added to that list

1410. India’s Electronics Production Reaches $133 Billion In A Decade, Exports Surge
- On 16 August 2025, According to Commerce Minister, In a major fillip to the 'Make in India’ initiative, India’s electronics production has surged from $31 billion to $133 billion in a decade beginning 2014-15,the minister informed via an X post.
- One of the greatest journeys has been the transformation from a mobile importer to becoming the world's second-largest mobile phone manufacturer. we have moved from having 2 mobile manufacturing units in 2014 to over 300 today,” Minister of added.
- According to latest data compiled by the India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA), electronics exports reached $12.4 billion in Q1 FY26, up from $8.43 billion in the same period last year.
