701. India TB Report-2024: Missing cases shrinking, 95% got treatment in 2023
- The gap between the estimated number and actual cases of tuberculosis (TB) is closing, according to the India TB Report 2024 released by the Union Health ministry.
- There were only 2.3 lakh missing cases in 2023, as compared to 3.2 lakh the year before, the report states. This gap has been reducing over the years, especially with the government’s Ni-kshay portal tracking all TB patients.
- According to the report, the majority of the TB cases are still reported by the government health centres, even as there has been an uptick in notifications by the private sector. Nearly 33% or 8.4 lakh of the 25.5 lakh cases reported in 2023 came from the private sector.
- To compare, only 1.9 lakh cases were reported by the private sector in 2015, the year considered to be the baseline by the programme that is geared towards the elimination of the disease.

702. Andhra Pradesh and the race to build India’s ‘largest electric air taxi hub’
- On November 19, 2025 It was reported that, At the CII Summit on November 14–15, 2025 in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh signed an agreement with Bengaluru-based Sarla Aviation to establish India’s largest electric air taxi manufacturing hub—‘Sky Factory’—in Anantapur, beginning Phase-1 construction at Thimmasamudram.
- Sarla Aviation will invest ₹1,300 crore to build a 150-acre eVTOL manufacturing, R&D and testing campus with a 2-km runway, targeting flight tests by 2027 and commercial production by 2029; expansion to 350 additional acres is planned.
- Parallelly, US-based Carbonatik LLC will invest ₹12,400 crore in inland waterways, an Urban Water Metro, and India’s largest aviation MRO hub in Kurnool, supporting eVTOL, drone manufacturing, cargo terminals, FTO facilities, and future greenfield port and yacht infrastructure.

703. India’s Space Economy To Touch $45 Bn In Next Decade, Says Jitendra Singh
- On November 19, 2025 It was reported that, At an event in New Delhi, Minister Minister of State (IC) for Science & Technology said India’s space economy—currently USD 8 billion—is projected to grow to USD 44–45 billion within a decade, driven by major policy reforms and expanding national and global partnerships.
- Speakers including ISRO astronaut Gp Capt Shubhanshu Shukla, Italian Ambassador Antonio Bartoli, Japan’s DCM Takashi Ariyoshi, IN-SPACe Chair Pawan Goenka, and ISpA leaders highlighted collaboration, private investment, demand creation, and inspirational human spaceflight as key growth drivers.
- Viasat India announced a partnership with BSNL to commercialise the Velaris satellite platform for uncrewed aircraft, while Novaspace opened a Bengaluru office, reflecting rising international engagement as India prepares multiple satellite and rocket launches in 2025.

704. Elimination of trachoma as a public health problem in India
- The World Health Organization has validated India as having eliminated trachoma as a public health problem. Trachoma is one of the leading causes of blindness globally. India joins Nepal and Myanmar in the WHO South-East Asia Region and 19 other countries globally that have previously achieved this feat.
- In 1963, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in India initiated a trachoma control project with support from WHO and UNICEF.
- The community-based interventions to eliminate trachoma consisted of surgical treatment, topical antibiotic treatment, and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) initiatives, along with health education promoting behavior change to decrease transmission.
- In 2005, trachoma was responsible for 4% of all cases of blindness in India. By 2018, the prevalence of trachoma was down to 0.008%. A series of impact, pre-validation and trichiasis-only surveys were completed in 2024, confirmed that elimination targets had been met in all previously endemic evaluation units.

705. Indian Army secures IPR for newly designed digital-print combat coat
- On November 19, 2025, It was reported that, the Indian Army secured exclusive IPR for its new Coat Combat (Digital Print), designed by NIFT New Delhi, after its design was officially registered with the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trademarks in Kolkata,The new combat coat, unveiled in January 2025.
- Developed by NIFT under an Army Design Bureau project, the three-layer combat coat uses advanced technical textiles and ergonomic design, enhancing mobility, durability, and performance. IPR protection prevents unauthorised production, enabling strict legal action against violations.
- The ensemble includes a digital camouflage outer coat, insulated inner jacket, and a thermal base layer. The Ministry of Defence said the innovation aligns with Atmanirbhar Bharat and the Army’s Decade of Transformation (2023–2032) for modern, indigenous soldier systems.
706. ISRO successfully demonstrates boot-strap mode start test on CE20 cryogenic engine, enhances restart capability
- On November 19, 2025 It was reported that, ISRO successfully conducted a 10-second vacuum test of the CE20 cryogenic engine in boot-strap mode at the High-Altitude Test facility in Mahendragiri, Odisha on November 07, 2025, marking a major advancement for future LVM3 missions.
- ISRO used a multi-element igniter in the thrust chamber and gas generator, enabling the CE20 engine to start its turbo pumps without external gas bottles or auxiliary systems, demonstrating autonomous boot-strap start capability.
- The CE20 engine, already qualified for 19–22-tonne thrust and Gaganyaan, now gains restart potential for multi-orbit missions. ISRO says this may be the first global demonstration of boot-strap start for a gas-generator cryogenic engine.

707. New HIV cases down by 44% since 2010: Anupriya Patel
- New annual HIV infections have decreased by 44 per cent since 2010, outperforming the global reduction rate of 39 per cent, Union Minister of State for Health.
- India's progress and strategies in the fight against HIV/AIDS, including the 5th phase of the National AIDS and STD Control Programme (2021-2026), fully funded by the government of India.
- India HIV Estimations 2023' report, over 2.5 million people are living with HIV in India, but thanks to concerted efforts, the adult HIV prevalence is at 0.2 per cent and estimated annual new HIV infections are at around 66,400. New annual HIV infections have decreased by 44 per cent since 2010, outperforming the global reduction rate of 39 per cent.
- In total, more than 1.7 million people are receiving free antiretroviral therapy (ART) through public healthcare systems.

708. WHO report says India reduces malaria caseload, deaths by 69% each: Why combination drugs and insecticidal mosquito nets worked
- India is no longer classified as a High-Burden-High-Impact (HBHI) group for malaria according to the World Malaria Report released on Wednesday (December 11) 2024.
- According to the report, India has reduced its malaria caseload by 69% from 6.4 million in 2017 to 2 million in 2023. Registered deaths attributed to malaria too decreased by 69%, from 11,100 to 3500 during the same period.
- The report also provides global trends and data related to malaria control. Between 2000 and 2023, 2.2 billion cases and 12.7 million malaria-related deaths were averted worldwide.

709. India Crosses 505 GW Power Capacity As Solar Leads The Renewable Energy Boom In 2025
- On 19 November, 2025, It was reported that, By October 2025, India’s renewable energy capacity rose to 39.66% of total power capacity, with solar reaching 129.923 GW and expanding 38.23% annually, reflecting rapid nationwide clean-energy deployment despite coal still holding 43.22% of installed capacity.
- Government policies-including the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers-boosted solar quality and domestic production, helping India add 32,059 MW of solar capacity in ten months and achieve 116 GW of solar PV module manufacturing capacity by October 2025.
- India’s total power capacity crossed 505 GW in 2025, creating jobs and improving rural access, while rising renewables enhanced energy security, reduced import dependence, and increased focus on grid stability, storage, and technology integration for long-term sustainability.
710. India Records 21% Decline in Tuberculosis Cases Over Last Decade: WHO Report
- India’s total tuberculosis cases have reduced by 21 per cent over the last decade, which is almost double the global average of 12 per cent.
- According to the World Health Organization’s Global TB Report 2025, the number of TB patients in the country has come down from 237 per lakh population in 2015 to 187 per lakh in 2024.
- Mortality due to tuberculosis has also declined from 28 per lakh population in 2015 to 21 per lakh last year. The government is implementing several initiatives, including the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, and the Ni-kshay Poshan Yojana, to eliminate TB from the country.
