- An EU jab shortage will put pressure on India to make up the difference
- The EU has told the UK that if AstraZeneca cannot supply the contracted number of doses from its plants in Europe, it is duty bound to meet the shortfall from its manufacturing facilities in Britain.
- WHO chief Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said “vaccine nationalism” could lead to a “protracted recovery”. He added that vaccine hoarding would “keep the pandemic burning and... slow global economic recovery” in addition to being a “catastrophic moral failure” that could further widen global inequality.

- British-Swedish firm AstraZeneca, which co-developed the Covid-19 vaccine with Oxford University has found itself entangled in a mess that also involves Brexit.
- AstraZeneca said it can only deliver a fraction of its vaccine doses promised to the EU and Britain because of production problems, but both sides are demanding their pledges are met.
- The EU had threatened to restrict vaccine exports to Northern Ireland by overriding part of the Brexit deal with Britain

- Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yury Borisov has indicated that India may be the first foreign buyer of its most advanced S-500 ‘Prometei’ anti-aircraft missile system.
- The S-500 ‘Prometei’ anti-aircraft missile system is the most advanced Russian mobile service to air system and was put into service earlier this year. In 2019, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed interest in buying the S-500 units.
- The $5.5 billion deal for five S-400 systems had become a thorn in the growing US-India partnership, with the latter running the risk of facing the Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA) sanctions.

- Indian conglomerate Tata Group plans to reclaim ground in the beauty business it exited 23 years ago, with the local market for cosmetics forecast to be worth $20 billion by 2025.
- The startup, that’s now a $13 billion company after a blockbuster IPO, helped millennial and Gen-Z consumers buy high-end beauty brands as well as access tutorials and testimonials from social media influencers.
- The revenue from beauty, footwear and underwear category is just about $100 million for Trent while the market is of about $30 billion now, according to data provided by the company.

- under the third phase of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY) 1.25 lakh kilometers of road will be constructed in the country
- the third phase of PMGSY was launched in 2019 to connect major rural links connecting habitations to rural agriculture markets, schools and hospitals.
- Giriraj Singh a total of 71,902 km road length has been sanctioned till 8th December this year and out of which more than 19000 km road length has been completed. The minister said all the state governments have been advised to use at least 15 percent of green technology in construction of such roads.

- Centre has released 604 crore rupees to Jammu and Kashmir to expedite the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission.
- Jammu and Kashmir has planned to became Har Ghar Jal by August next year. Out of 18 lakh 35 thousand rural households in the Union Territory, more than 57 percent households have tap water connections.
- The Ministry said, Central fund of two thousand 747 crore rupees has been allocated to Jammu and Kashmir in the current financial year for the implementation of the mission, which is nearly four times the allocation made during last financial year.

- A total of 80,701 health and wellness centres (AB-HWCs) have been operationalised across the country under the Ayushman Bharat scheme launched on April 14, 2018.
- This includes 54,618 Sub-Health Centres (SHC), 21,898 Primary Health Centres (PHC) and 4,155 Urban Primary Health Centres (UPHC), as on December 8, 2021, Minister of State for Health Bharati Pravin Pawar said
- In February 2018, the Government of India announced 1,50,000 Ayushman Bharat Health and Wellness Centres (AB-HWCs) to be established across India by December 2022.
