2181. Agni V missile test-fired successfully; PM Modi lauds scientists
- On 31 January 2025, India successfully test-fired its indigenously developed, intercontinental surface-to-surface nuclear capable ballistic missile ‘Agni-5’, which has a strike range of over 5000 kms and can carry a nuclear warhead of over one tonne, from Wheeler’s Island off Odisha coast.
- Lot of new technologies developed indigenously were successfully tested in the first Agni-5 trial. The very high accuracy Ring Laser Gyro based Inertial Navigation System (RINS) and the most modern and accurate Micro Navigation System (MINS) had ensured the Missile reach the target point within few meters of accuracy.
- India has at present in its armoury of Agni series, Agni-1 with 700 km range, Agni-2 with 2000 km range, Agni-3 and Agni-4 with 2500 km to more than 3500 range. After a few more trials, Agni-5 will be inducted into the services.
2182. India’s Navy Receives First Locally Produced Long-Range Surface-to-Air Missile
- On August 27, 2017, The Indian Navy took delivery of the first domestically assembled long-range surface-to-air missile system (LRSAM) in Hyderabad.
- LRSAM was jointly developed by IAI and India’s state-owned DRDO in partnership with defense contractors in both India and Israel as part of Indian Prime Minister 's “Make in India” initiative.
- LRSAM is designed to deal with any incoming airborne threats and is equipped with advanced phased-array radar, command and control, mobile launchers and missiles with advanced radio frequency (RF) seekers.
2183. Make in India: BrahMos missile achieves new milestone
- On March 29, 2018 It was reported that, India’s defence indigenisation efforts achieved a major fillip powerful BrahMos supersonic cruise missile system with an indigenous seeker was successfully flight-tested from the Pokhran test range in Rajasthan.
- The missile was fired from a Mobile Autonomous Launcher (MAL) deployed in full configuration and hit the designated target meeting all mission parameters.
- This successful test-firing of the weapon fitted with an indigenously developed seeker has enthused a fresh impetus in the ambitious “Make in India” programme initiated by the government in 2014. This is the first time India has successfully developed the seeker technology for a missile of this class and calibre.
2184. Cabinet clears Tirupati-Katpadi rail doubling project Rs 1,332 crore boost to connectivity, tourism
- On 10 April 2025 In a landmark decision for railway infrastructure development, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, has approved the doubling of the Tirupati-Pakala-Katpadi railway line, a vital 104-kilometer single-line section linking Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
- The Rs 1,332 crore project expands the Indian Railways network by 113 kilometers of track length, promising to decongest one of the busiest rail corridors, enhance operational efficiency, and ensure greater service reliability.
- under the PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan for multi-modal connectivity, the initiative reflects integrated planning to facilitate seamless movement of people, goods, and services, aligning with Modi’s vision of a self-reliant “New India.”
2185. India clears biggest-ever fighter jet deal 26 Rafale Marine jets for Navy approved
- On 9 April 2025 In a major development, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) on Tuesday approved India's largest-ever fighter jet deal, clearing the purchase of 26 Rafale Marine combat aircraft for the Indian Navy. The deal, worth over Rs 63,000 crore, will be executed under a government-to-government agreement with France.
- The contract will include 22 single-seater and four twin-seater Rafale Marine jets. It also comprises a comprehensive package for fleet maintenance, logistical support, personnel training, and indigenous manufacturing components under offset obligations.
- The new Rafale Marine deal will also help enhance the IAF's capabilities, including upgrading its "buddy-buddy" aerial refuelling system. This feature will enable around 10 IAF Rafale aircraft to refuel others mid-air, thus extending their operational range.
2186. Tripura gears up for improved water supply with three new treatment plants
- On April 9, 2025, Tripura began building three Water Treatment Plants (WTPs) to improve water supply across different districts.
- The plants include a 0.30 MGD facility at Masmara in Unakoti, a 0.55 MGD one at Kalyanpur in Khowai, and a 0.65 MGD plant at Jamjuri in Gomati.
- The Masmara WTP also serves the tribal TTAADC area, focusing on clean water for rural and tribal regions. These projects aim to ensure reliable drinking water, reduce scarcity, and promote sustainable health improvements.

2187. Bodhitree Multimedia signs Rs 500 cr MoU to build media hub in Guwahati
- On April 8, 2025, Bodhitree Multimedia, an entertainment content production company, announced signing a Rs 500 crore memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Assam government on February 26 to develop a pioneering global media and cultural hub in Guwahati, aiming to elevate Assam’s stature in the international entertainment landscape.
- The partnership will establish Guwahati’s first media city, featuring a luxury seven-star wellness resort and an immersive India Pavilion to highlight the nation’s cultural diversity, positioning Assam as a prime destination for leisure and business travelers while meeting the rising demand for advanced media infrastructure.
- CEO Mautik Tolia emphasized that the initiative, Bodhitree’s second major production facility in India following the Thane Film City project with Suman Entertainment, is designed to attract international studios with cutting-edge facilities, fostering creativity, innovation, and significant entertainment tourism in the region.

2188. India gets 1st-ever high-altitude climate research station in J&K: Dr. Jitendra
- On April 9, 2025, Union Minister inaugurated India’s first-ever “Himalayan High Altitude Atmospheric and Climate Research Centre” at Nathatop in Jammu and Kashmir, declaring it a historic gateway for climate forecast and research in the Himalayas, positioning India as a global leader in climate science.
- Located at 2,250 meters above sea level, the state-of-the-art facility—chosen for its clean air and minimal pollution—will leverage J&K’s high-altitude advantage to study atmospheric processes, with the Indo-Swiss ICE-CRUNCH project launching concurrently to explore ice-nucleating particles and cloud condensation nuclei in the north-western Himalayas.
- Highlighting its global significance, the minister noted that the centre addresses the imperative of preserving the Himalayas, with studies under ICE-CRUNCH set to enhance understanding of cloud microphysics, weather patterns, and precipitation, while J&K spearheads India’s efforts in tackling worldwide climate concerns alongside advanced meteorological upgrades in the region.
2189. India exports 2.87 lakh tones sugar till Apr 8 of 2024-25: AISTA
- On 9 April 2025, It was reported that, India exported 2,87,204 tonnes of sugar till April 8 of the ongoing 2024-25 marketing year with maximum shipments of 51,596 tonnes to Somalia, trade body AISTA said .
- The sugar marketing year runs from October to September. Sugar exports for the 2024-25 marketing year in India were allowed on January 20, 2025. The total quantity permitted for export is one million tonnes.
- According to the All India Sugar Trade Association (AISTA), mills have exported a total of 2,87,204 tonnes of sugar till April 8 of the current marketing year.

2190. Cabinet approves doubling of Tirupati-Pakala-Katpadi railway line to boost connectivity and sustainable growth
- On 9 April 2025, The Union Cabinet approved the doubling of the Tirupati-Pakala-Katpadi single railway line (104 km) in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, with a total investment of approximately Rs. 1,332 crore. This project aims to enhance connectivity, improve mobility, and promote sustainable development in the region.
- The project will significantly increase the line’s capacity, improving the efficiency and reliability of Indian Railways. By easing congestion and supporting smoother operations, the multi-tracking initiative will address infrastructural needs on one of the busiest railway sections in India.
- The multi-tracking initiative will improve access to around 400 villages and serve a population of approximately 14 lakh people, enhancing transportation and trade opportunities for the local communities.
