1632. Indore Launches India’s First QR-Based Digital House Address System

1633. Govt working to extend Rs 3,500-crore PLI benefits to BIS-compliant toys
- The Indian government is planning a ₹3,500 crore Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme to boost domestic toy manufacturing as per BIS standards.
- The scheme aims to reduce unsafe toy imports from China—imports fell from $371 million (FY19) to $110 million (FY22), a drop of over 70%.
- With most toy makers being small/medium enterprises, incentives and turnover are expected to range between ₹5–7 crore. Around 1,000 toy licenses have already been issued.
- India is the 2nd largest polyester producer and holds an 8% global share in plush toys—expected to become a major toy manufacturing hub through PLI and related initiatives.

1634. MeitY Announces Electronic Toy Hackathon (e-Toycathon)
- on 23 November 2024, The Ministry of Electronics & IT (MeitY), in partnership with C-DAC and LEGO Group, conducted a one-year training program under the project titled “Development of Electronics and IT-based Control and Automation Solutions for Consumer Electronic Goods (Toy Industry)”.

1635. Govt creates sports and toys manufacturing zone in Khuskheda
- Rajasthan state government has developed a dedicated industrial area in Khuskheda near Bhiwadi over seven acres of land having 39 plots. Once fully operational, the zone is projected to attract approximately ₹300 crore in investments and generate around 7,500 jobs.
- A recent RIICO study shows India’s sports goods and toy sector is valued at ₹18,000 crore, but only about 20% of toy demand is met domestically; the rest—especially from China and Italy—is imported. India holds just 0.51% of the global toy market, compared to China’s over 45% share.
- The zone benefits from excellent connectivity—it is part of the NCR, just 10 km from NH 48, 67 km from IGI Airport (Delhi), and 51 km from Gurugram. It offers quality infrastructure and skilled labour suitable for large-scale production.

1639. Saharanpur wood carvers to begin a new chapter with wooden toys
- On 8 December 2020, A district administration initiative has trained women in self-help groups to transform wood-carving scraps into crafty wooden toys, launched with just 25 women, empowering them to earn an additional ₹5,000–7,000 per month.
