- Setting a benchmark in water conservation, IFS officer Dharam Singh Meena and his team have revived 66 Himalayam springs, helping 23 villages in Uttarakhand’s Tehri Garhwal
- Springs, a primary water source for villages in Uttarakhand and the Himalayan sub-continent, are vanishing resulting in loss of income and migration. The disappearance of these precious water sources is due to erratic rainfall, mainly due to climate change. The water shortage is also because of the change in land use patterns owing to rampant development. The over in the region has affected the hydrogeology of the springs.
- Dharam Singh says, “The river is fed by springs and streams along its length and merges with the Ganges at Shivpuri. Heval is one of the main rivers of the district Tehri Garhwal, providing potable water and for agricultural purposes. So, I decided to visit the villagers to hear their issues
- Dr Anvita Pandey, a scientist at CEDAR, says, “A total of 66 springs and 17 streams were identified, along the 50 km stretch of the river. The key issues documented were the decrease in discharge rate of the springs due to increase in the sediment load of the river.”

- Three Indian defence manufacturers have made it to the list of top 100 global companies making arms, planes and other military equipment. The details were released on Monday morning by Swedish think-tank Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) in its report ‘Top 100 arms-producing and military services companies, 2020’.
- The sales of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (ranked 42nd) and Bharat Electronics (66th) rose by 1.5 per cent and 4 per cent, respectively, during 2020. The sales of Indian Ordnance Factories (60th) saw a marginal rise of 0.2 per cent.
- Their aggregated arms sales of $6.5 billion (approx Rs 48,750 crore, accounting for 1.2% of the top 100’s total) were 1.7% higher in 2020 than in 2019,

- India and Russia signed 28 agreements Monday at the 21st edition of their annual summit. The summit made headlines as President Vladimir Putin came calling for a five-hour visit and the two old friends also held their first 2+2 dialogue.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the initiatives under the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership will widen the scope of cooperation to new areas.
- President Putin and PM Modi held summit-level talks Monday in New Delhi. The nations signed agreements ranging from commercial deals to cooperation programmes.

- the BSF, NSG and DRDO with the assistance of certain foreign companies and Start Ups in the country are in the process of developing anti-drone technology which will be installed along the borders amid reports that drone activities have been reported from Amritsar, Abohar Fazilka, Hiranagar and Akhnoor sectors
- “The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) will be funding entire multi-crore project for developing anti-drone technology for installation along the International Border with instructions that it should be developed at the earliest to completely plug drone activities which have the potential to give boost to militancy and narco-terror activities,” official sources told the Excelsior.
- As far as the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir is concerned, sources pointed out, the Army has installed certain equipments to check movement of drones.

- India and Russia on December 6 in New Delhi signed an agreement on a programme extending Military Technical Cooperation for the next 10 years and also finally inked a Rs 5,124 Crore ($679.4 Million) contract for over 600,000 AK-203 assault rifles for the Indian Army.
- These were part of four agreements and protocols signed at the 20th meeting of the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Military & Military Technical Cooperation in New Delhi. The meeting was co-chaired by Defennce Ministers Rajnath Singh and Sergey Shoigu.
- Protocol on Amending the Agreement between India and Russia on cooperation in the field of Kalashnikov Series Small Arms Manufacturing dated February 18, 2019. Contract for procurement of quantity 6,01,427 AK-203 Assault Rifles 7.63X39mm through Indo-Russia Rifles Private Limited. Agreement on Program for Military Technical Cooperation from 2021-2031. - The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has installed 931 oxygen pressure swing absorption (PSA) plants across the country during the COVID-19
- Out of the 931 plants, 103 have been established in Uttar Pradesh, 62 in Tamil Nadu, 56 in Madhya Pradesh, 49 in West Bengal and 48 in Rajasthan
- A total of 931 PSA plants have been installed by DRDO under PM Cares Fund at 869 sites during COVID-19 pandemic."

- राज्य सरकार के एक प्रवक्ता ने बताया कि 600 एकड़ क्षेत्र में बनाए गए खाद कारखाने का निर्माण 8603 करोड़ रुपए की लागत से किया गया है। विगत 31 वर्षों से बंद पड़े इस कारखाने के प्रारंभ होने से सालाना 12.7 लाख मीट्रिक टन उर्वरक का उत्पादन होगा और इससे बड़े पैमाने पर रोजगार सृजित होगा।
- PM मोदी ने गोरखपुर में निर्मित हिंदुस्तान उर्वरक रसायन लिमिटेड के खाद कारखाने का भी लोकार्पण किया।इस मौके पर उत्तर प्रदेश की राज्यपाल आनंदीबेन पटेल और मुख्यमंत्री योगी आदित्यनाथ मौजूद रहे।1011 करोड़ रुपए की लागत से निर्मित AIIMS की आधारशिला वर्ष 2016 में प्रधानमंत्री मोदी ने ही रखी थी।

- For the first time in the country, the longest tunnel is being built under a high mountain of mud. Up to 70 percent of its work has been completed. The remaining 30 percent will be completed soon and the train will be run from this tunnel till December 2023.
- The new rail route is 111 km from Jiribam to Imphal to connect Guwahati and Imphal. The rail line will cover a distance of about 62 km through the tunnel. However, the longest tunnel is of 10.3 km.
- The total length of the said line is 111 km and the rail line will cover about 62 km through the tunnel i.e. more than 56 percent of it will go through tunnels. The total length of all the bridges to be built on this line will be 3.5 km. The entire railway line will have 10 stations.

- गोरखपुर पिछले दो- तीन सालों से उद्योगपतियों के लिए उत्तर प्रदेश में सबसे पसंदीदा शहर के रूप में उभर रहा है। हाल ही में, गोरखपुर से एक खबर सामने आ रही है कि 31 साल से बंद पड़ी खाद फैक्ट्री का संचालन फिर से शुरू होगा।
- पिछले चार वर्षों में, गैलेंट इस्पात लिमिटेड, शुद्ध प्लस हाइजीन, क्रेजी बेकरी उद्योग, अंकुर उद्योग लिमिटेड, स्पाइस लैमिनेट्स प्राइवेट लिमिटेड, आदित्य मोटर्स प्राइवेट लिमिटेड, इंडिया ग्लाइकोल प्राइवेट लिमिटेड, आरके ऑक्सीजन प्राइवेट लिमिटेड नाम के उद्योगों ने अपनी इकाइयां स्थापित की है। अब इस बीच 31 साल से बंद पड़ी गोरखपुर खाद फैक्ट्री का उद्घाटन 7 दिसंबर को प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी द्वारा किया जायगा।
- संयंत्र पूरे क्षेत्र में नीम-लेपित यूरिया की आपूर्ति में मदद करेगा क्योंकि इसकी दैनिक उत्पादन क्षमता 3,850 मीट्रिक टन और वार्षिक उत्पादन 12.7 लाख मीट्रिक टन होगी। वहीं, यह फैक्ट्री यूरिया के आयात पर भारत की निर्भरता को कम करेगी और 10,000 से अधिक नौकरियां पैदा करेगी
