21852. India gets first hydrogen mixing station in Indore; here’s how it will cut carbon emissions
- India has several plans in the pipeline to hit its goal of net-zero carbon emissions by the year 2070. Apart from its plans to instal a 500-gigawatt (GW) renewable energy capacity by 2030, the country is seeking to reduce the carbon footprint of natural gas by mixing it with hydrogen.
- Under the National Hydrogen Mission, the country will also scale up production of zero-emission green hydrogen, which will be used as an alternative fuel with no emissions in large parts of the existing infrastructure.
- "In line with the National Hydrogen Mission, GAIL has started hydrogen blending as a pilot project to establish the techno-commercial feasibility of blending hydrogen in City Gas Distribution (CGD) network. - KKR-backed Virescent Renewable Energy Trust ((VRET) has raised Rs 650 crore through domestic bond issue. “Virescent Renewable Energy Trust (VRET) raised Rs 650 crore through a domestic bond issuance across 7.33-year (Rs 150 crore) and 10-year (Rs 500 crore) tranches
- this transaction marks the largest single series issuance of Rs 500 crore in 10-year tenor by a renewable energy company.
- This bond issuance establishes a new yield curve for VRET, while also achieving significant elongation of average tenor as compared to the earlier Rs 1,000 crore bond issuance of VRET in November 2021 (4.8 years to 9.4 years).
21854. Bengaluru Airport third busiest airport, emerges as transfer hub for South India
- A Bengaluru International Airport Authority Limited (BIAL) release said Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru (BLR Airport) is the third busiest Airport in India.
- BLR Airport serves 74 domestic destinations, the highest ever since airport opening date, as compared to 54 routes during pre-Covid and is also the highest amongst South Indian Airports.
- flights to non-metro routes have shown a considerable increase from 58 percent (pre-Covid) to 63 percent in Calendar Year (CY) 2021. Moreover, between Q1 and Q4 of 2021, traffic on non-metro routes increased by 27 percent, reinforcing strong demand on these city-pairs.

21855. Chandigarh airport to get shuttle bus service soon
- Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) is soon going to start a shuttle bus service between ISBT-17 and Chandigarh International Airport, Mohali
- the bus would stop at Sohana and the ISBT-43 en route. The service will start from the ISBT-17 at 4.20 am and the operation will end at 11.40 pm.

21856. UBS in talks to invest $400 million in India's Paytm
- UBS is in talks to invest $400 million in Indian digital payments startup Paytm, according to Bloomberg.
- A fund run by UBS’s asset management arm is in discussions to buy a stake in Paytm alongside some of the Swiss bank’s clients, according to people close to the talks.
- UBS is negotiating the purchase of Paytm stock from a group of the Indian fintech company’s employees, the people said.

21858. Cabinet approves ₹5,282-cr investment for 850 MW Ratle project on Chenab river
- The Union Cabinet approved a ₹5281.94 crore investment for 850 megawatt (MW) Ratle hydropower project on Chenab river in Jammu and Kashmir.
- This comes in the backdrop of India’ plan to expedite strategically important hydropower projects in the union territory post its reorganization, as the National Democratic Alliance government plans to fully utilize its share of water under the Indus Waters Treaty of 1960. Chenab flows from India into Pakistan.

21859. World Bank plans $100-mn guarantee scheme for solar rooftop projects
- The World Bank plans to introduce a $100-million credit guarantee scheme to boost India’s rooftop solar programme. An investment of ₹4.7 trillion has been made in India’s renewable energy space in the last six years, with an expected ₹1 trillion investment opportunity annually till 2030.
- The World Bank scheme, along with State Bank of India (SBI) and the MSME ministry to accelerate adoption of rooftop solar units, will help MSMEs access credit of around $1 billion.
- “The World Bank is collaborating with SBI to implement a $648 million financing and technical assistance programme for solar rooftops. Through the programme, concessional debt financing is provided for commercial and industrial consumers including MSMEs," a World Bank spokesperson said in an emailed response.
21860. Modi urges Swedish cos to invest in India
- India and Sweden can deepen ties with increased collaboration in smart cities, e-mobility, smart grids, PM Modi said A joint statement issued after a virtual summit between Modi and his Swedish counterpart Stefan Lofven said that Modi had invited Swedish defence firms to participate in the Make in India programme, especially in the two defence production corridors in Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh.
- Secretary West in the Indian foreign ministry Vikas Swarup said New Delhi was aware of Swedish company SAAB offering to move its Gripen fighter aircraft production line to India. SAAB has made this offer against the backdrop of India putting out a tender for the acquisition of 114 fighter aircraft for the Indian Air Force.
