2561. Arunachal CM inaugurates multi-level parking projects in Itanagar to ease congestion
- On February 19, 2025, CM of Arunachal inaugurated three multi-level parking projects in Itanagar, worth ₹60 crore, under the Smart City initiative to reduce congestion.
- The Civil Secretariat facility (₹18.09 crore) has 108 parking slots across 10 floors, while additional 143-slot and 100-slot multi-level parking were built at ESS Sector and APSTS Bus Station, Ganga Market.
- These projects are part of Itanagar’s Smart City initiative, executed by the UD Department and Smart City Development Corporation under the Social Infrastructure Development Fund (DoNER Ministry).

2562. Multi-National Hotel Chains to Expand Presence in Jammu & Kashmir
- On February 20, 2025, Radisson Hotels Group and other leading hotel chains announced plans to expand in Jammu & Kashmir to accommodate growing tourist arrivals. J&K Tourism Commissioner Yasha stated in a high-level meeting in New Delhi, highlighted the need for private-public partnerships to boost hotels, restaurants, and infrastructure.
- Radisson operates five hotels in Kashmir and three in Jammu and plans further expansion. HAI President K B Kachru pledged support in bringing IHCL, Lalit, IHG, Marriott, and Lemon Tree to J&K.
- Better connectivity, including upcoming train services to Kashmir, is expected to drive record-breaking tourism and increase demand for quality accommodations.

2563. Newly Inaugurated Jogighopa Inland Waterways Terminal In Assam To Serve As International Port Of Call For Bhutan And Bangladesh
- On February 18, 2025, Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways inaugurated the Inland Water Transport (IWT) Terminal at Jogighopa, Assam, situated on the Brahmaputra (National Waterway-2). The event was attended by Bhutanese Minister, highlighting its strategic importance for regional trade and connectivity.
- The state-of-the-art terminal, located within the Multi-Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) in Jogighopa, is now designated as an international port of call for Bhutan and Bangladesh, facilitating seamless cargo movement in Assam and Northeast India. The terminal is 91 km from Gelephu, Bhutan, 108 km from the Bangladesh border, and 147 km from Guwahati via inland waterways.
- The project, developed by the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) and National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), was built at a cost of ₹82.03 crore. Spread over 15 acres, it is well connected to NH-17 via a four-lane road and is positioned to boost cross-border trade and cargo efficiency.
- As part of the inauguration, Sonowal flagged off MV Trishul with two barges (Ajay and Dikshu) carrying 110 metric tonnes of coal and stone chips to Bangladesh. He emphasized that inland waterways expansion under Prime Minister's leadership has significantly increased cargo and passenger movement, establishing it as a preferred mode of transportation in the Northeast.

2564. Agartala's MBB Airport: Northeast's Aviation Jewel Set for International Status
- On February 19, 2025, Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport in Agartala was recognized as Northeast India’s top-performing airport in customer satisfaction, as per the latest Customer Satisfaction Survey. The airport, which was inaugurated in 1942, has undergone significant expansion and modernization and is on the verge of being officially designated as an international airport.
- Over the past six years, the Indian government has invested ₹600 crore in expanding and upgrading the airport. A new terminal building covering 30,000 square meters now accommodates both domestic and international travelers. Additional enhancements include six parking bays, an isolation area, and a new hangar, significantly improving operational capacity.
- Ongoing infrastructure projects include runway re-carpeting (to be completed by March at a cost of ₹80 crore) and the installation of an Instrument Landing System (ILS) to enable safer landings in poor visibility conditions. The airport is also adopting solar energy solutions to improve sustainability and operational efficiency.
- MBB Airport currently handles 4,000 passengers daily, including Bangladeshi travelers entering through the Integrated Check Post. Spanning 750 acres, it is one of the safest airports in the region, featuring a 140-meter safety strip. Airport Director KC Meena emphasized the airport’s commitment to quality infrastructure and service, ensuring its role as a key aviation hub in Northeast India. Future plans include expanding solar power capacity and upgrading lighting systems for enhanced low-visibility operations.

2565. J&K Pickleball Association (JKPA) Paving the way for Pickleball’s Growth in Jammu & Kashmir
- On February 19, 2025, the J&K Pickleball Association (JKPA) reaffirmed its commitment to promoting and expanding pickleball across Jammu and Kashmir. As the official governing body, JKPA is focused on grassroots participation, competitive tournaments, and ensuring player recognition at the national and international levels.
- JKPA is affiliated with the India Pickleball Association (IPA) and is recognized by the Asian Pickleball Association (APA) and the Global Pickleball Federation (GPF). This affiliation allows J&K players to compete in official tournaments and gain skill-based rankings through Pickleball World Rankings (PWR) and Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating (DUPR).
- JKPA has introduced the J&K State Pickleball Ranking (JKSPR) system, which identifies top players for national representation through regular ranking tournaments. JKPA welcomes players, enthusiasts, and partners to contribute to the growth of pickleball in the region and establish it as a leading sport in J&K.
2566. Jal Jeevan Mission Achieving Steady Progress in J&K
- On February 18, 2025, Jammu and Kashmir reported significant progress under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), improving access to clean drinking water in rural households, particularly in hilly and far-flung areas. Many regions are receiving tap water supply for the first time in history.
- A recent success story is Lanker Pombay village in Kulgam district, where 80 households now have access to sustainable tap water for the first time. Earlier, residents depended on hand pumps and water tankers for their daily water needs. A ₹187.68 lakh water supply scheme, including a dug-well and a 0.60 lakh gallon RCC Service Reservoir, was developed under JJM with strong community participation.
- Jal Jeevan Mission aims to provide every rural household with a Functional Household Tap Connection (FHTC), delivering at least 55 liters of water per capita per day while maintaining quality standards. Across J&K, over 3,200 water supply schemes have been initiated, with a total estimated cost of ₹13,000 crore. So far, ₹7,000 crore has been spent, leading to the completion of 1,400 schemes, while the remaining are in advanced stages of development.
2567. ISRO’s 100th mission: PSLV-C21 launched successfully
- On 9 September, 2012, India today successfully launched its 100th space mission with the indigenous PSLV-C21 rocket putting in orbit two foreign satellites.
- The Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV),on its 22nd flight,soared into an overcast sky at 9.53 AM carrying the 720 kg French satellite,the heaviest satellite to be launched by India for a foreign client.
- SPOT-6 is the biggest commercial lift so far since India forayed into the money spinning commercial satellite launch services after 350 kg Agile of Italy put in orbit in 2007 by PSLV. Twelve other foreign commercial satellites launched by ISRO weighed below 300 kg

2568. PSLV launch successful, satellites injected into orbit
- On 20 April, 2011, India’s PSLV-C16 rocket on Wednesday successfully launched into orbit the latest remote sensing satellite Resourcesat-2 that would study and help manage natural resources along with two nano satellites.
- Isro’s homegrown workhorse Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle placed in a ‘Polar Sun Synchronous Orbit’ Resourcesat-2, Youthsat and X-Sat about 18 minutes after it blasted off from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre launch pad here, 90 km from Chennai
- “PSLV-C16 Resourcesat-2 mission is successful,” a jubilant Indian Space Research Organisation chairman K Radhakrishnan announced shortly after all the three satellites were hurled into space one after another 822 km above earth in a text book launch.

2569. PSLV-C18 sends four satellites in orbit
- On 12 October, 2011, The Indian Space Research Organisation on Wednesday placed four satellites in designated orbits using its tried and tested Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle-C18 (PSLV-C18).
- One satellite, developed by India and France, will track the weather, two were developed by educational institutions, and the fourth is from Luxembourg.
- The primary payload was the 1000kg weather satellite, Megha-Tropiques, developed jointly by ISRO and the French national space agency, CNES. It was placed in orbit at an altitude of 867 km. The satellite will study climatic and atmospheric conditions in the tropics and help predict monsoons, cyclones, floods and droughts.

2570. India launches students' satllite
- 12 July, 2010, Indian Space Research Organisation [Isro] chairman K Radhakrishnan could not have been more happier than he was on Monday morning, when the agency's polar satellite launch vehicle [PSLV] launched five satellites without a hitch.
- The 17th flight of PSLV C15 successfully launched five satellites: The 694 kg Indian remote sensing satellite (IRS) CARTOSAT-2B, which is its main payload; the 116 kg ALSAT-2A of Algeria, 6.5 kg NLS-6.1 AISSAT-1 of Canada, NLS-6.2 TISAT of Switzerland and STUDSAT, a picosatellite weighing less than 1 kg built by a consortium of seven engineering colleges in Bangalore and Hyderabad.
- PSLV was initially designed by ISRO to place 1,000 kg class IRS into 900 km polar Sun Synchronous Orbit. Since its first successful launch in October 1994, the capability of PSLV was increased to 1,750 kg from 850 kg
