1881. India’s 5th-generation stealth fighter jet gets key approval, DRDO to lead project
- On 27 May 2025, In a major push towards Atmanirbharta (self-reliance), Defence Minister Rajnath Singh approved the Execution Model for the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme .
- The AMCA clearance marks a critical step towards realising India’s goal of joining an elite club of nations in designing and producing its own fleet of next-generation combat aircraft.
- The AMCA, widely seen as India’s answer to fifth-generation air power, will give a major boost to achieving ‘atmanirbharata’ in the defence sector and will become a hallmark of India’s growing defence capabilities.
1882. 8 Arunachal students from remote villages crack Sainik School exam with Army-led coaching initiative
- On May 26, 2025, eight students—five girls and three boys—from remote Sarli and Daporijo villages in Arunachal Pradesh cleared the Sainik School entrance exam, thanks to an eight-month coaching program by the Indian Army’s Spear Corps.
- The initiative, under the Spearhead Division, trained 33 border village students with academic coaching, mentorship, study materials, and logistical support, culminating in the exam on April 5, 2025, in Itanagar.
- Students joined a State Integration Tour from April 29 to May 3, visiting Sainik School Siang and meeting Governor Lt Gen KT Parnaik (Retd), fostering inspiration and national integration.
- With ongoing e-counseling for final selection, the Army’s annual program aims to empower youth and bridge educational gaps in marginalized areas, as exemplified by student Miss Milli Yabi’s aspiration to join the prestigious Sainik School.

- On 26 May 2025 , The Uttar Pradesh government plans to invest ₹6,124 crore to build ring roads, bypasses and flyovers throughout the state in an important move to increase road connectivity and reduce traffic congestion.
- . A government spokesperson informed, “With the goal of transforming Uttar Pradesh into ‘Uttam Pradesh’, the state government is advancing infrastructure on a large-scale to expand the network of expressways..
- The initiative is designed to enhance connectivity infrastructure while also optimizing traffic management. This would provide safer and more comfortable travel for the urban population who commute in major cities like Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Agra, Bareilly, Lucknow, Kanpur and Ghaziabad, among others.
1884. India overtakes Japan to become world’s 4th largest economy
- On 25 May 2025, India has overtaken Japan to become the world’s fourth-largest economy and is now poised to surpass Germany to claim the third position within the next 2.5 to 3 years, according to NITI Aayog
- We are the fourth-largest economy as I speak. We are a USD 4 trillion economy, and this is not my data—it’s IMF data. India today is larger than Japan,” said Subrahmanyam during a press conference following the 10th NITI Aayog Governing Council Meeting.
- The International Monetary Fund (IMF), in its World Economic Outlook report released earlier this month, stated that India is set to become the fourth-largest economy in 2025. India’s nominal GDP is projected to rise to $4,187.017 billion, surpassing Japan’s estimated $4,186.431 billion.
- This rapid growth is expected to push India’s GDP to $5,584.476 billion by 2028, enabling it to overtake Germany and become the third-largest economy.

1885. Prime minister inaugurates locomotive manufacturing plant of Indian Railways in Gujarat’s Dahod
- ON 26 May 2025, Prime Minister of india inaugurated the locomotive manufacturing plant of the Indian Railways in Gujarat's Dahod. He also flagged off the first electric locomotive manufactured from the plant.

- Bengaluru’s Yellow Line Metro corridor (R.V. Road to Bommasandra) will begin partial operations by mid or end of June 2025, following Railway Board approval and pending CMRS inspection and final clearances on 25 May, 2025.
- The 19.15-km line faced repeated delays due to late delivery of driverless train sets, mainly caused by Chinese firm CRRC’s failure to set up a promised local manufacturing facility, later resolved through a partnership with Titagarh Rail Systems.

1887. $8 billion and rising processed food exports can unlock growth for India in global food trade
- On 24 May 2025, India’s agricultural exports reached $48 billion in FY24, solidifying its position as a major player in the global food trade. However, processed food exports, currently valued at $8 billion, offer significant headroom for growth, according to Deloitte & FICCI’s latest report ‘Spurring growth
- The is potential to move up the value chain from primary commodities to value-added processed foods, which could be achieved by establishing Indian food products as a mainstream global phenomenon.
- Few opportunities to help enable this transition include scaling healthy Indian food products, such as millets and makhana; upgrading commodity value chains for highly exported products such as groundnut; and building strategic branding around globally trending products and India’s GI-tagged products,”

1888. Indian Army launches first FM radio station in Uttarakhand
- On 23 May 2025, The first FM radio station operated by the Indian Army in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand was inaugurated by General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Army's Central Command Anindya Sengupta.
- The objective of the initiative is to create goodwill between the Indian Army and people of the border areas said Manish Singhal, manager of the radio station.
- The station manager said the radio station is being operated from the Army Public School of the 'Panchshul Brigade' of the Indian Army and people within a radius of 12 km from the radio station can listen to it.

1889. Over Rs 22 crore for redevelopment of Hirakud Railway Station in Odisha
- On 24 May 2025, In a significant move to modernise and revitalise railway infrastructure in Western Odisha, Indian Railways has sanctioned Rs 22.87 crore for the comprehensive redevelopment of Hirakud Railway Station under the national Amrit Bharat Station Scheme
- The Hirakud station will undergo a series of upgrades designed to enhance both functionality and passenger convenience. A 12-meter-wide Foot Over Bridge (FOB) to ensure smoother passenger movement., - Two Passenger Lifts to facilitate easier mobility, especially for the elderly and differently-abled travellers, Improved Toilets for better sanitation standards, Coach Indication Boards to provide real-time train information. , Inclusive infrastructure with Divyangjan-friendly features, ensuring accessibility for all.
- The redevelopment of Hirakud is among several projects in districts such as Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Bolangir, and Kalahandi, with notable allocations like Rs 23.76 crore for Sambalpur and Rs 35.79 crore for Titilagarh.
1890. Delhi Govt to create 2 lakh ‘Eco-Warriors’ through youth climate drive
- On 22 May 2025 , The mark International Biodiversity Day, Delhi Environment Minister launched a massive climate sensitisation initiative aimed at mobilising nearly two lakh students across schools and colleges in the capital as ‘Eco-Warriors’.
- The campaign, being conducted in collaboration with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), will operate through around 2,000 eco-clubs in government and private institutions across Delhi-NCR.
- The MoU was signed between the Department of Environment and TERI to formalise the partnership, with the Delhi Government set to sanction Rs 40 lakh for the programme’s implementation.
- The initiative will involve interactive learning modules, workshops and community-based activities between June and November 2025. It also includes the training of 80 ‘Paryavaran Sanrakshaks’— students and educators, who will act as eco-leaders in their institutions and help sustain the momentum through peer learning.
