22591. Kochi airport secures 3rd position in handling international traffic despite Covid
- The Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) or Kochi airport has once again retained its position as the third busiest airport in India throughout 2021 with a total footfall of 3,01,338 passengers during December 2021.
- As per the data by the Airport Authority of India (AAI), Kochi airport handled a total of 43,06,661 passengers in 2021 out of which, 18,69,690 were international passengers, ultimately marking an increase in passenger volume by 10 lakh compared to 2020,
- Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode airports also made it to the top 10 list, securing 6th and 8th position respectively.

22592. India home to over 61,000 recognised startups, Delhi takes over as startup capital: Economic Survey
- India is home to more than 61,400 startups recognised by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), as per the Economic Survey. The services sector has the maximum number of startups in the country.
- In 2021, DPIIT recognised over 14,000 new startups in comparison to 733 new startups recognized in 2016-17.
- The government recognised over 5,000 new startups in Delhi-NCR compared to 4,514 startups in Bengaluru between April 2019 and December 2021.

22594. Adani Total Gas Ltd to invest Rs 20,000 crore in CGD sector in the next eight years
- India’s largest private City Gas Distribution (CGD) player and a joint venture between the Adani Group and TotalEnergies, has won licenses to expand its CGD network to 14 new Geographical Areas (GAs) in the recently concluded 11th round of bidding by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB).
- These 52 GAs account for 15% of the country covering 124 districts across 18 States and three Union Territories (UTs), a press release from the company said.

22595. Sun Pharma Q3 net up 11 per cent at Rs 2,059 crore
- Sun Pharma posted an 11.14 per cent increase in its consolidated net profit to Rs 2,058.8 crore for the third quarter ended on December 31, 2021, on the back of robust sales across domestic and international markets.
- The Mumbai-based drug major had reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 1,852.4 crore in the October-December period of previous fiscal.
- Total revenue from operations rose to Rs 9,863 crore in the third quarter as compared to Rs 8,836.7 crore in the same period of previous fiscal, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries said in a regulatory filing.

22596. Kia India roll out the first Carens from its Anantapur Plant
- From its state-of-the-art production plant in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, Kia India, today rolled out the first customer car of the three-row recreational vehicle, the Kia Carens. The Kia Carens is Kia's latest 'Made-in-India' product.

22597. Hyderabad infra giant Megha Engineering to set up oil rig manufacturing plant in Telangana
- Hyderabad headquartered infra giant Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Ltd (MEIL) is all set to set up an oil drilling rig manufacturing plant in Telangana and to deliver 47 oil and gas rigs worth $860 million to Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC).
- MEIL has acquired Drillmec, the Italian global leader in oil and gas exploration, and the company will invest US $ 200 million in its Hyderabad manufacturing facility, which will become a Global Oil Rig Manufacturing Hub.

22598. Low-cost test kits to santising drones: IIT innovations take commercial route to aid COVID-19 fight.
- 1. The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, which became the first academic institute to get a nod from the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) for its COVID-19 test kit, has given non-exclusive open licence to Bengaluru-based biotechnology firm Genie Laboratories for commercialising the test, but with a price rider of Rs 500 per kit.The kits are being manufactured at a facility at the Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ) in Vishakhapatnam, and are expected to be available in the market in the next 10 days.
- 2. "Over 40 companies, including a few big names, have reached out to us to commercialise the test. We will be giving open licences to companies which meet the quality criterion set by us. We are also giving the licence with a price rider so that companies do not hike the price once commercialised. We have shortlisted Genie laboratories as the first one, but there will be more companies too," IIT Delhi Director V Ramgopal told PTI.
- 3. According to the IIT Delhi team, the current testing methods available are "probe-based" while the one developed by the IIT team is a "probe-free" method, which reduces the testing cost without compromising on accuracy.

- 1) The Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT) here on Sunday said it has developed a cotton mask using a herbal extract, and claimed that it acts as "virus-neutraliser and resists pathogens effectively.
- 2) A herbal extract obtained from neem oil, turmeric, tulsi (holy basil), ajwain (carom seeds), black pepper, gum arabic, clove, sandalwood and saffron has been used in the non-woven nano-fibre of this three-layered biodegradable mask, named 'pavitrapati, a patented invention, DIAT's metallurgical and materials engineering department Prof Balasubramanian K said.
- 3) This provides "antibacterial and antiviral properties", he claimed, adding that these additives are immunity-boosting agents for self-care, as per guidelines of the AYUSH Ministry. "The product is antibacterial, anti-fungal, antiviral, porous, super-hydrophobic (outer layer of mask), hydrophilic (inner layer) and biodegradable and it will be very useful in our fight against COVID-19, said Balasubramanian.

- कोरोना दौर में पुणे में 9वीं कक्षा के एक स्टूडेंट ने एक ऐसा रोबोट (Robot) तैयार किया है जो कोविड-19 वार्ड में डॉक्टर और नर्सों की काफी मदद करेगा।
- यह रोबोट नर्सों के विकल्प के रूप में काम करेगा और मरीजों को दवाइयां पहुंचाएगा। दस्तूर हाई स्कूल में पढ़ने वाले 14 साल के विराज शाह ने नायडू अस्पताल को अपना रोबोट दान किया है।विराज को बहुत कम उम्र में ही रोबोट के निर्माण में मन लगने लगा। उन्होंने लॉकडाउन के समय का भरपूर इस्तेमाल किया और एक नेक काम के लिए रोबोट का आविष्कार किया। रोबोट के लिए बेसिक स्कैलटन तैयार करने के बाद उन्होंने पुणे नगरपालिका (पीएमसी) कमिश्नर शेखर गायकवाड़ से मुलाकात की। शेखर ने विराज को सलाह दी कि रैंडम प्लान पर संसाधन बर्बाद करने के बजाय उन्हें हेल्थ स्टाफर से मिलकर स्थिति समझनी चाहिए।
- दो इंजीनियरिंग स्टूडेंट ने मदद की - विराज ने बताया, 'मैंने नायडू अस्पताल का दौरा किया जहां मैंने स्टाफर से बातचीत की। वे सभी मरीजों को दवाइयां और पानी दे रहे थे। इस छोटे से काम के लिए उन्हें पूरी पीपीई किट पहननी होती है। इसी दौरान मैंने तय किया कि मैं अपना रोबोट इसी काम के लिए दान करूंगा।' इसके बाद विराज ने प्रोटोटाइप पर दो इंजीनियरिंग स्टूडेंट के साथ काम किया, जो उनके साथ वॉलनटिअर्स के रूप में जुड़े थे।
