24031. New Delhi expected to get its first electric bus in February: all you need to know about election vehicle
- The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) will soon welcome a fleet of electric buses in the national capital. After a considerable wait period, New Delhi will see the first prototype of an electric bus soon.
- These buses arrived on Sunday (2 December) and are currently being tested by the vehicle manufacturer JBM Auto Limited and the state transport department. DTC is procuring 300 e-buses whose delivery was due in November last year owing to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
- A total of 2,300 electric buses are in the pipeline which will cater the people of the city. Out of these, 1,300 will be used by DTC and the other 1,000 will function under the cluster scheme. However, it will take at least six months before the cluster electric buses are introduced.

- Adoption of drone technology is still in its infancy in India, and Marut looks to accelerate this by making drones agents of change to advance social development.
- Marut’s drones include Marut Zap, which assists with mosquito eradication; Hepicopter, enabling swift delivery of medicines to inaccessible areas, Seedcopter for rapid and scalable reforestation, and Agricopter for precision agriculture.
24033. How AI-based solar system inspector AirProbe was built, got acquired
- Founded in 2017 by Aditya Bhat, Kaustubh Karnataki and Ganesh Shankar, Bengaluru-based AirProbe uses AI for solar system inspections. It was recently acquired by US-based intelligent aerial imaging company DroneBase.
- Ganesh took up the problem statement of the solar panel efficiency and decided to solve it, co-founding a new company called 14 Weeks Technologies or 14W Technologies, which they later called AirProbe. AirProbe was recently acquired by US-based intelligent aerial imaging company DroneBase for an undisclosed amount.
- From January 2019, the team at AirProbe has been aiming to scale by automation in drone operation, data analysis and developing a digital portal to generate reports instead of sending these files to clients in PDF formats. This also enabled stakeholders to have a transparent way to take corrective measures.
24034. ‘पंचम पूरीवाला’: 170 साल पहले स्टेशन पर पूरियां बेचकर, बनाया मुंबई का सबसे फेमस ब्रांड
- मुंबई के मशहूर VT (हाल में CST) स्टेशन के पास तक़रीबन 170 साल पहले, आगरा से आकर एक शख्स ने पूरी बेचना शुरू किया था। लोगों को इनकी पूरियां इतनी पसंद आयी कि आज परिवार की छठी पीढ़ी भी इसी काम से जुड़ी है।

24035. Tortured as a Child Labourer, He Is Now Helping Draft India’s Anti-trafficking Bill
- Khem Lal Khaterji was once a child labourer in Uttar Pradesh, who was abused and tortured. Today, his organisation SAANS (Shramik Adhikar Aur Nyaya Sangathan) is rescuing others from the same plight.
- Khem Lal Khaterji was all of six when he began his life as a child labourer. was forced to break coal and pack mud into brick moulds. At 13, Khem Lal began skipping work to attend school and while it worked for some time, when the contractor got wind of this, all hell broke loose.
- The contractor heated up a large spoon and stuck it on my cheek. I remember howling in pain begging him to let me go. But he didn’t. This went on for three long years until Khem Lal and his family were finally rescued by an NGO working in that area. I saw what humane treatment was like only after we were rescued by the NGO workers. We were sent back to our village and baba used the relief funds to buy a toffee making machine, while I worked hard and made it to college
24036. India conducts successful flight tests of indigenously-developed smart anti-airfield weapon
- The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Air Force jointly conducted two flight tests of an indigenously developed smart anti-airfield weapon in Rajasthan's Jaisalmer.
- Two different configurations of the weapon based on satellite navigation and electro-optical sensors have been successfully tested.
- Electro-optical seeker-based flight test of this class of bomb has been conducted for the first time in the country. The electro-optic sensor has been developed indigenously.
24037. Tata Steel BSL first company to export LD slag to Bangladesh for cement making
- Tata Steel BSL NSE 0.11 % said it has exported 9,000 tonnes of LD slag, a by-product of manufacturing the metal, to Bangladesh, in the first such shipment from India to the neighbouring country.
- It shipped out the product through Dhamra Port to the Bangladesh market from its unit in Odisha's Dhenkanal district.
- Test and trial of LD slag have already been done in the plant concerned in Bangladesh and the proposed plan is to export 100 KT (kilo tonne) of the by-product per annum.

24038. ‘India aims to raise exports of technical textiles from $2 bn to $10 bn in 3 years’: Goyal
- Technical textiles are engineered textile products for specific applications using basic raw materials such as jute, silk and cotton, et cetera
- Union commerce and textiles minister Piyush Goyal on Friday said the time has come to target a five times increase in export of technical textiles to $10 billion in three years, an official statement said.
- The Cabinet in September approved a PLI scheme worth ₹10,683 for domestic technical textiles firms, and manufacturers of fabrics and apparel in the man-made fibre segment provided they make a specific investment in greenfield projects and achieve stipulated turnover.

24039. Indian grape exports to rise in 2021-22 as production rebounds to pre-pandemic levels
- As a major grape consumer, India’s demand for fresh grapes had ranged between 90-93 percent of domestic production between 2014-2018.
- Indian table grape exports are set to increase by 5 percent year-on-year for the 2021-22 (June-May) season, as the country's production volume returns to pre-pandemic levels, according to a USDA report.
- exports are forecast to rise by 5 percent to 280,000 metric tons (MT), assuming stable supply chains and sufficient domestic grape availability for exports until April 2022.
- Indian grape production is forecast 26 percent higher at 2.9 million MT, similar to pre-pandemic levels.

24040. 83% of Isro’s foreign launches came post 2015; 66% from just US
- Isro, which carried out its first foreign satellite launch — DLR-TUBSAT from Germany and KITSAT-3 from Republic of Korea — on May 26, 1999, has launched 342 satellites from 34 countries since.
- Although it has been 22 years since Isro started accepting international customers and has launched 342 foreign satellites from 34 countries, 83% of all such launches it has carried out has come after 2015.
- While satellites from the US account for 66% or 266 of the 342 launches carried out by India, their share has been much higher when you look at the launched post 2015, at 78%.
