23321. India integrates variable renewable energy using Automatic Generation Control
- This AGC project would further help in achieving the government’s ambitious target of 500 GW non-fossil fuel-based generation capacity by 2030, the Minister said.
- The AGC Project has so far made operational 51 GegaWatt of generation capacity in all the five regional grids that would ensure high quality stabilized frequency power to the grid.
- “On the country’s march towards achieving the renewable energy capacity of 175 GW in 2022, we have achieved an installed capacity of 150 GW of renewable energy, including large hydro projects. 63 GW of renewable energy capacity are under various phases of installation, which is expected to be completed by next year,” the Minister said.

23322. COP 26: INDIA’S COMMITMENT TOWARDS BECOMING NET-ZERO
- A global summit, where countries reassessed their climate promises made under the 2015 Paris Agreement and disclosed commitments. India took a lead and committed to cut GHG emissions by half by 2030 and achieve “net-zero” status by 2070
- India has also declared that by 2030, it would have installed renewable energy (RE) capacity of 500 gigawatts (GW), accounting for half of its total energy demand. The transition from fossil-fuel-based energy to renewable energy will not only aid in the decarbonisation of the energy industry and market, but it also aids in the reduction of Green House Gases (GHG) emission.
- It is expected that by 2040, renewable energy will account for around 49% of total power generation as more effective batteries are utilised to store electricity, lowering the cost of solar energy by 66% compared to today’s cost. According to a study conducted by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), renewable energy generation would expand from 18 percent to 44 percent by 2029-30, while that of thermal power is expected to reduce from 78% to 52%.
23323. Small tea growers, manufacturers join hands to raise quality of 'Assam Tea'
- The Assam Small Tea Growers’ Association (ASTGA) and the All Assam Bought Tea Leaf Manufacturing Association (AABTLMA) have joined hands to conduct workshops to raise the quality of ‘Assam Tea’.
- Of late, gossip goes in various tea forums regarding the fall in the quality of 'Assam Tea'. The green leaves of the small tea growers produce 52 per cent of the total tea produced in the state. The small tea gardens provide job opportunities to around 15 lakh people in the state, directly or indirectly.
- The bought tea leaf manufacturers have extended a helping hand to train small tea growers through workshops. We are holding workshops district wise. Our motto is to produce the best quality tea to make the 'Assam Tea' get its respectable position in the international market. It will ensure remunerative prices for the small tea growers as well."
23324. COVID-19 Vaccine: भारत बायोटेक को Intranasal के Phase-3 ट्रायल और बूस्टर परीक्षण करने की मिली अनुमति
- बूस्टर डोज के लिए भारत बायोटेक को अपने इंट्रानैसल वैक्सीन के लिए तीसरे चरण के ट्रायल की अनुमति मिल गई है।
- यह निर्णय सेंट्रल ड्रग्स स्टैंडर्ड कंट्रोल ऑर्गनाइजेशन की सब्जेक्ट एक्सपर्ट कमेटी द्वारा लिया गया है। जिसमें कोविशील्ड और कोवैक्सिन के साथ पूरी तरह से टीका लगाए हुए 5000 लोगों पर intranasal वैक्सीन का परीक्षण किया जाएगा।
- भारत बायोटेक 5,000 स्वस्थ लोगों पर क्लीनिकल ट्रायल करेगा, उनमें से 2,500 लोगों को कोविशील्ड और अन्य 2,500 को कोवैक्सिन का टीका लगा होना चाहिए। दूसरे COVID-19 वैक्सीन से छह महीने की समयावधि के बाद इंट्रानैसल बूस्टर खुराक दी जाएगी।
23325. Indian Railways freight traffic achievements continue! Central Railway records highest loading in April-Dec 2021
- the Central Railway zone has crossed the milestone of 7 million tonnes freight loading in one month. In December 2021, freight loading of Central Railways was 7.21 million tonnes as against 5.87 MT in December 2020, registering a whopping increase of 22.8 per cent.
- The freight loading of Central Railways, during April-December 2021, is 55.06 million tonnes which is the highest ever during any April-December period.
- The previous best record was 44.98 million tonnes during April-December 2017-18, according to a statement issued by Central Railways.
- • Best ever coal loading of 1023 rakes registered in December 2021 while 708 rakes were loaded in December 2020 • As many as 34 rakes of Automobiles were loaded by Pune Division out of total 51 rakes loaded • A total of 199 rakes of Cement (including Clinker) have been loaded as compared to loading of 154 rakes in December 2020 • A total of 84 rakes of Steel have been loaded as against 65 rakes of Steel during December 2020
23326. Bullet train project: Work gets into the fast lane
- Infrastructure works for India’s first bullet train project between Mumbai and Ahmedabad have been put on the fast track following completion of the land acquisition process in Gujarat and the union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli
- the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) – the implementing agency for the `1.10-lakh-crore project – has initiated the process for building a tunnel between the underground Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) and Shilphata within Mumbai.
- With trains running at a speed of 320 km/hr, the corridor would have 35 trains running per day in each direction, at a frequency of 20 minutes in peak hours and 30 minutes in non-peak hours. The complete 508-km journey will take 2 hours and 57 minutes. NHSRCL has projected a fare of Rs 3,000-5,000 for an end-to-end journey.
23327. Mumbai to get 200 new AC electric double-decker buses
- The Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) is all set to launch 200 AC electric double-deckers in the city. These new buses will take the total number of AC double-deckers to 450 in the city.
- the new buses will sufficiently increase the capacity of buses as double-deckers can carry 100 passengers, including standees in a single ride, in a go.
- At present, BEST has around 48 non-AC double-deckers. The tender for 200 AC electric double-deckers for which bids will be opened before month-end, has already been floated.
23328. India deploys INS Kesari in Mozambique sea territory
- India deployed its yet another naval ship INS Kesari in the Port of Maputo in Mozambique to strengthen its naval security by deploying Indian Navy ships in friendly countries.
- These deployments were conducted in solidarity with India’s extended Maritime Neighborhood and highlights the importance accorded by India to these special relationships,
- India has also shipped 500 Tons of food aid using the ship INS Kesari to support the efforts of the Government of Mozambique to cope with the ongoing drought and concurrent challenges of the pandemic

23329. From Gaganyaan to Chandrayaan-3 space missions, India aims to fly high in 2022
- India's premier space agency will be looking for better days in 2022 as it plans to speed up several missions that have been delayed due to successive lockdowns in 2021.
- India's maiden mission to study the Sun, Aditya L1 will be launched in 2022 . CHANDRAYAAN-3 TO CARRY FORWARD MOON MISSION LEGACY, The Chandrayaan-3 takes cues from the first Chandrayaan mission launched in October 2008 that made major discoveries including finding evidence of water on the lunar surface.
- Isro is developing the Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV). The space agency will conduct the maiden launch in the first quarter of 2022. The SSLV will provide a payload capability of 500 kilograms to a 500-kilometre planar orbit.
23330. IIT Kanpur creates bio-bubble for convocation tomorrow. PM Modi to attend the event
- Students, faculties and staff at IIT Kanpur are set to undergo a massive health safety protocol as the institute has created a bio-bubble to ward off COVID contagion during the convocation on December 28
- Bio-bubble is a concept developed recently in the field of sports, especially in cricket, where a bio-secure environment is created to minimise contamination risks.
- This will be the first time in India where a convocation will be conducted inside the bio-bubble, the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, claimed.
