23311. स्वदेशी रक्षा उत्पादों में 75 फीसदी तक विदेशी सामग्री का इस्तेमाल, इलेक्ट्रॉनिक वारफेयर उपकरण में 22 फीसदी विदेशी कलपुर्जे
- रक्षा उत्पादन में तेजी तो आ रही है लेकिन जो सामग्री तैयार हो रही है, उसके निर्माण के लिए विदेशों से आयातित कुलपुर्जों पर निर्भरता लगातार बनी हुई है। रक्षा मंत्रालय के आंकड़ों के अनुसार पोतों के निर्माण में 75 फीसदी और वायुयानों के निर्माण में 60 फीसदी तक सामग्री विदेशों से आयात करनी पड़ रही है।
- तेजस लड़ाकू विमान समेत अन्य वायुयानों का निर्माण करने वाले हिन्दुस्तान एयरोनाटिक्स लिमिटेड (एचएएल) 40-60 फीसदी तक विदेशी कंपोनेंट का इस्तेमाल कर रहा है। मंत्रालय द्वारा दिए गए ब्योरे के अनुसार सुखोई-30 एमकेआई में 40, तेजस में 43, एएलएच में 44 तथा डीओ-228 वायुयान में 60 फीसदी कल पुर्जे विदेशों से आयातित हैं।
- रक्षा मंत्रालय के अनुसार जंगी पोतों का निर्माण करने वाली सार्वजनिक रक्षा कंपनी एमडीएल के प्रोजेक्ट 15बी और 17 ए पोतों के निर्माण में 72-75 फीसदी विदेशी कंपोनेंट का इस्तेमाल किया जा रहा है। इसी प्रकार राडार, कम्युनिकेशन तथा इलेक्ट्रॉनिक वारफेयर उपकरण बनाने वाले सार्वजनिक उपक्रम बीईएल ने पिछले तीन सालों के दौरान 22-27 फीसदी तक विदेशी कुल-पुर्जों का इस्तेमाल किया है।

23312. India allows additional 3,675 tonnes of sugar export to UK under concessional duty quota
- The government has permitted export of an additional 3,675 tonnes of raw/refined sugar under tariff-rate quota to the United Kingdom. TRQ (Tariff-Rate Quota) is for a volume of exports that enter the UK at relatively low tariffs. After the quota is reached, a higher tariff applies to the exports.
- This additional quantity of sugar is beyond the EU (European Union) CXL sugar quota of 10,000 tonnes during 2020-21 notified by the DGFT last year.
- "The additional quantity of 3,675.13 tonne of raw/rIndia allows additional 3,675 tonnes of sefined sugar to be exported to UK under TRQ up to September 30 this year is notified," Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said in a public notice.

23313. कोरोना काल में गैर-बासमती चावल का निर्यात 129फीसदी बढ़ा, गेहूं में 727 फीसदी की बढ़त
- फसल वर्ष 2020-21 (जुलाई-जून) के दूसरे अग्रिम उत्पादन अनुमान के अनुसार देश में चाावल और गेहूं के रिकॉर्ड उत्पादन के साथ खाद्यान का कुल उत्पादन 30.33 करोड़ टन रह सकता है
- गैर-बासमती चावल के निर्यात में बीते वित्त वर्ष 2020-21 के दौरान 129 फीसदी का उछाल आया
- गेहूं के निर्यात में 727 फीसदी का इजाफा हुआ। भारत ने 2020-21 में करीब 51.55 करोड़ डॉलर मूल्य का गेहूं निर्यात किया है जबकि इससे पिछले साल 2019-20 में भारत ने 6.23 करोड़ डॉलर मूल्य का गेहूं निर्यात किया था। इस प्रकार, गेहूं के निर्यात में 727 फीसदी का इजाफा हुआ है।

23314. Farm exports up 16.88 per cent in Apr-Feb FY21
- India exported agricultural commodities worth Rs 2.74 lakh crore till February of the 2020-21 fiscal, up by 16.88 per cent from Rs 2.31 lakh crore in the year-ago period, notwithstanding the pandemic, the agriculture ministry said.
- Imports of agriculture and allied commodities increased by 3 per cent to Rs 1,41,034 crore during April-February period of 2020-21 from 1,37,014 crore in the year-ago period.
- Despite COVID-19, balance of trade in agriculture has favourably increased to Rs 1,32,579.69 crore from Rs 93,907.76 crore in the said period.
- Among agri-commodities exported, wheat shipments rose in terms of value to Rs 3,283 crore in April-February from Rs 425 crore in the year-ago period.

23315. India saved over Rs 30,000 cr despite rising petro product imports in FY21
- India has saved over Rs 30,000 crore despite a firming up of petroleum product imports largely due to a fall in international hydrocarbon prices during 2020-21.
- According to official data, the country imported finished petroleum products worth Rs 1,50,176.31 crore from April 2020 to February 2021.
- The value of finished petroleum product imports during the same period of 2019-20 stood at Rs 1,81,681.69 crore. It is expected that this saving will only grow as the data for March 2021 is released.

23316. India’s exports in April rise 197 per cent with growth across sectors
- Riding on a sharp growth in exports of gems and jewellery, engineering goods and petroleum products, India’s goods exports in April 2021 shot 197.03 per cent to $30.21 billion compared to April 2020 when exports had plunged due to the national lockdown and halt in manufacturing to check the Covid-19 pandemic.
- Goods imports in April 2021 increased 165.99 per cent to $45.45 billion, widening trade deficit to $15.24 billion during the month which was 120.34 per cent higher than the deficit in the same month last year, per early estimates released by the Commerce & Industry Ministry on Sunday.
- All major commodities have posted growth in export during April 2021 compared to April 2020, including gems and jewellery (9158.63 per cent), jute products (1556.39 per cent), carpet (1351.48 per cent), leather and leather manufactures (1168.96 per cent), readymade garments (920.52 per cent), cotton yarn/fabrics (616.6 per cent), electronic goods (362.86 per cent), mica, coal and other ores, minerals including process (234.63 per cent), engineering goods (234.63 per cent), tobacco (183.86 per cent), iron ore (175.15 per cent ) and petroleum products (171.11 per cent).

23317. Exports rise 80% to $7 bn during first week of May: Commerce Ministry
- Continuing a positive growth, India's exports grew by 80 per cent to USD 7.04 billion during the first week of this month, according to preliminary data of the commerce ministry.
- Major export commodities which are recording healthy growth include gems and jewellery, jute, carpet, handicrafts, leather, electronic goods, oil meals, cashew, engineering, petroleum products, marine products and chemicals.

23318. SSWL gains on bagging export orders
- Steel Strips Wheels (SSWL) rose 1.08% to Rs 766.15 after the company said it received new orders worth over $7.25 million (Rs 54 crore) from US and Europe.
- The company said that it had received export orders of over 525,000 wheels for US & EU caravan trailer market, US mobile home and US truck trailer market.
- SSWL is engaged in the manufacturing of steel wheel rims catering to different segments of automobile industry. The firm operates in automotive wheels segment. Its geographical segments include India and overseas.
- The company reported a net profit of Rs 44.55 crore in Q4 FY21 compared with net loss of Rs 5.24 crore in Q4 FY20. Revenue from operations increased by 80.8% year-on-year (YoY) to Rs 699.87 crore during the quarter.

23319. India's sugar exports on good course; contracts over 50 lakh tonnes so far
- Indian sugar mills may achieve their target of exporting 6 million tonnes of the sweetener by the end of June, three months before September, when the 2020-21 season ends. The surge in exports is mainly due to firm global prices and subsidy, which have made the overseas markets lucrative.
- The government provides a subsidy of ₹5.83 on every kg of sugar exported up to 6 million tonnes. The subsidy amount is transferred directly to the farmers’ accounts. Exports will help mills settle dues they owe sugarcane farmers, which is now coming down progressively from ₹21,200 crore, officials said. A drop in output in Brazil and Thailand, the top sugar-producing countries, is helping India.
- The government is also encouraging sugar mills to divert excess sugar and sugarcane for the production of ethanol, which is blended with petrol. This is a step towards improving the liquidity position of sugar mills, which are grappling with a cash crunch. India’s sugar production has risen almost 16% to 29.91 million tonnes in the October-April period from 25.8 million tonnes a year earlier.

23320. Non-basmati rice exports surge in FY21 due to global demand, savvy pricing
- Amid the gloom surrounding the India economy due to the second Covid-19 wave, one area that has done commendably well in the farm sector is the export of non-basmati rice.
- While basmati exports have traditionally been India’s forte, of late the non-basmati varieties have also picked up and financial year 2020-21 has been a stellar one for them. Data sourced from the department of commerce shows that in FY21, non-basmati rice exports totaled around $4800 million, up 136.11 per cent over the same period last year.
- India responded quickly to opportunities thrown up by the pandemic, and the hiccups faced by competing nations to put up a sterling performance in non-basmati shipments abroad.
