91. First Bamboo Crushing Unit inaugurated
- North East Cane and Bamboo Development Council under the North Eastern Council, Ministry of DoNER, Government of India associated with The Apunba Imagi Machasing (AIMS), inaugurated the first Bamboo Crushing Unit at Ngairengbam Mamang Ching, Imphal East.
- Bamboo Powder as an Integrated Farming of Livestock, Crop, and Fish in North East India is the first time in India and the project uses bamboo powder as a sustainable feed supplement for livestock, natural fertiliser for crops, and ammonia absorbent for fish ponds.
- The agricultural productivity will improve and reduce cost while promoting healthy farming in the region. The inauguration of the Bamboo Crushing Unit marks an important landmark in the path of agricultural innovation for Northeast India.

92. From 461 to 45k hectares: Tripura’s bold bamboo expansion drive for industrial use
- The Tripura government has taken up a five-year plan to expand the bamboo production area exclusively for industrial use by nearly 100 times to 45,000 hectares of land.
- Around 70 per cent of the country’s requirement of agarbatti bamboo sticks is supplied by Tripura and the government is keen to bring more such industries in the state. The northeastern state, which has an abundant bamboo resource, produces 21 species of bamboo.
- As of now, Tripura produces bamboo on 461.32 hectares exclusively for industrial use and we plan to increase that to 45,000 hectares in five years from 2025-26. Nine-thousand hectares will be added in each of these five years.
- The TBM has raised high-density bamboo plantation in 461.32 hectares from 2018-19 to 2024-25 exclusively for commercial purposes. Tripura has 4.20 lakh hectares of bamboo-bearing areas, according to the Forest Survey of India 2023 report.

93. Assam pushes bamboo-based economy with new construction policy
- The Assam government has taken a decisive step to boost the state's bamboo industry by integrating engineered bamboo composite materials into public construction projects.
- The state cabinet has approved the inclusion of these materials in the Public Works Department’s Schedule of Rates (SOR), making bamboo a standard component in infrastructure development.
- As part of this initiative, all public buildings must now use at least 5% bamboo-based materials. This move is expected to create new economic opportunities for local producers while promoting sustainable construction practices.
- By utilising bamboo, Assam aims to reduce dependence on conventional materials and encourage an eco-friendly approach to development.

94. Tata Communications, RailTel join hands to develop AI-ready digital infrastructure
- On February 23, 2026 , Tata Communications partnered with RailTel to develop AI-ready digital infrastructure for India and global markets, aiming to modernize networks, enhance cyber protection, and improve citizen-facing services across the country.
- Homegrown companies Tata Communications and RailTel will collaborate to strengthen networks, enable secure cloud adoption, and leverage AI platforms, improving visibility, reliability, and performance of digital operations for public sector and enterprise customers.
- RailTel’s network spans 63,000 km of optical fibre, connecting over 6,000 railway stations. The initiative supports resilient systems, faster connectivity, and better citizen services like railway Wi-Fi, broadband, surveillance, and digital governance platforms; financial terms were not disclosed.
95. Waaree, ZFI sign 2.5 MW electrolyser-as-a-service agreement; inks MoU for 50 MW green hydrogen expansion
- On February 23, 2026, Waaree Clean Energy Solutions and Zero Footprint Industries (ZFI) signed an electrolyser-as-a-service (EAAS) agreement to deploy a 2.5 MW alkaline electrolyser in Uttar Pradesh for ZFI’s green hydrogen capacity expansion.
- Waaree Energies’ subsidiary will design, supply, install, commission, own, and operate the electrolyser system, manufactured at its Dungri plant in Gujarat, under a 15-year long-term EAAS contract with ZFI.
- The project will produce 41 lakh Nm³ of green hydrogen and 20 lakh Nm³ of green oxygen annually, abating 70,000 MT of carbon per year, with first commissioning in ~7 months, scaling up to 10,000 m³/hour across multiple sites.
96. India's first childhood cancer survivor registry suggests 94.5% overall survival rate: Study
- On February 21, 2026, India’s first nationwide registry of childhood cancer survivors (C2S study), published in The Lancet Regional Health Southeast Asia, found a 94.5% five-year overall survival rate and nearly 90% event-free survival among 5,140 children across 20 centres.
- Initiated in 2016, the C2S study tracked 5,419 children diagnosed before age 18, with acute leukaemia being the most common cancer (40.9%). Most received chemotherapy (94.7%), followed by surgery and radiotherapy.
- The study highlights strong collaboration across public and private institutions and aims to fill data gaps on long-term and late effects of treatment in low- and middle-income countries, helping shape future survivorship care policies in India.
97. Pharma exports grow 9.4% to $30.47 billion in FY25; industry eyes double-digit expansion by 2026-27
- On February 21, 2026, India’s pharmaceutical exports grew 9.4% in 2024–25 to $30.47 billion, with the industry aiming for double-digit growth by 2026–27, as discussed during a Chintan Shivir in Ahmedabad.
- India ranks third globally in pharma production by volume, exporting to over 200 countries, with 60% of shipments going to highly regulated markets. The US accounts for 34% of exports and Europe for 19%.
- The domestic pharma sector, currently valued at $60 billion, is projected to reach $130 billion by 2030, supported by expanded trade engagement with the EU and US to enhance market access and competitiveness.

98. IIT Kharagpur sets up DRDO industry academia centre of excellence for defence research
- On February 21, 2026, IIT Kharagpur has established a DRDO Industry Academia-Centre of Excellence (DIA-CoE) to strengthen indigenous defence research and innovation, inaugurated by DRDO Chairman S V Kamat in the presence of Director Suman Chakraborty.
- The centre aims to bring together academia, industry and start-ups to develop advanced and futuristic defence technologies, promoting translational research and technological self-reliance.
- A seminar on advancements in unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs) was held, where experts discussed autonomous systems, advanced sensors and future research directions in underwater defence technologies.
99. Banaras Locomotive Works dispatches tenth indigenous 3300 HP locomotive to Mozambique
- on February 21, 2026, Banaras Locomotive Works (BLW) dispatched the 10th indigenously built 3300 HP AC-AC diesel-electric locomotive to Mozambique completing an export order of 10 units executed through RITES Limited.
- The 3300 HP (1067 mm Cape gauge) locomotives can run up to 100 km/h and feature modern, driver-friendly amenities, showcasing India’s capability in manufacturing globally benchmarked rolling stock.
- BLW, based in Varanasi, is strengthening India’s presence in the global railway market, having exported locomotives to Sri Lanka, Myanmar, and Mozambique since 2014 under the “Make in India” and “Make for the World” vision.
100. India AI Summit draws USD 250 billion infrastructure commitments
- On February 20, 2026, at the India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, over USD 250 billion in AI infrastructure investments and USD 20 billion in VC/deep-tech funding were committed, with more than five lakh visitors attending the event.
- Union IT Minister announced that 70 countries had backed the proposed Delhi Declaration, likely crossing 80 by Saturday. Global policymakers, tech leaders, startups, and major AI firms participated, endorsing India’s responsible AI approach.
- The Minister said full declaration details would follow after the summit. He noted strong youth support despite opposition criticism, announced a new semiconductor plant in Uttar Pradesh, Micron’s facility launch on February 28, and a 20-lakh AI training target under India AI Mission 2.0.
