761. Indian Railways commissions 118 Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals across 18 states
- On November 20, 2025 it was reported that, As of October 31, 2025, Indian Railways has commissioned 118 Gati Shakti Multimodal Cargo Terminals across 18 states and UTs, surpassing its FY25 target of 100 terminals under the Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal Policy.
- The Ministry of Railways, partnering with state governments and private operators, developed these terminals as cargo consolidation hubs, expanding rail freight access in previously unconnected regions and improving multimodal logistics efficiency nationwide.
- Launched under the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan (2021), the terminal network reduces logistics costs and supports industrial clusters. Railway Minister earlier reported 112 terminals commissioned by August 2025, indicating rapid programme traction.
762. Bengaluru honoured with $150K global award for tobacco control efforts
- Bengaluru is one of the five cities that on 15 March 2023, received a prestigious $150,000 award from the World Health Organisation for its tobacco control efforts, particularly reduction of smoking in public places.
- Bengaluru received the award for its efforts in tobacco control, specifically, reducing smoking in public places and improving compliance with existing mandates on public smoking bans, the WHO said in a statement from London.
- With the majority of the global population living in cities and towns, ensuring the health and well being of residents in our world’s urban centers is crucial. NCDs – including heart disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes, and chronic respiratory diseases – and injuries are responsible for over 80% of all deaths globally.

763. ICMR gets U.N. award for successes in control of non-communicable diseases
- The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has received the prestigious 2024 @UN Inter-Agency Task Force Award for achievements in advancing multi-sectoral action on the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases and mental health and the broader NCD-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
- The ICMR's initiatives, from establishing national centres for Assistive Health Technology to promoting sustainable assistive products and conducting the world's largest AT survey are making a lasting impact.

764. Taming the Silent Killer: India’s remarkable achievements towards controlling High bp
- India has made significant progress in hypertension control through the India Hypertension Control Initiative (IHCI), launched in 2017. By 2022, the program expanded to over 20,000 healthcare centres across 25 states, enrolling 40 lakh patients, with 47% achieving blood pressure control.
- Hypertension, affecting 20 crore adults in India, is a leading cause of heart disease, stroke, and kidney failure.
- The IHCI focuses on standardized treatment, ensuring drug availability, training healthcare workers, and using technology for monitoring and patient care. Initiatives like the National Health Policy and Ayushman Bharat Yojana complement these efforts.
- The program aims to screen and treat 75 million people by 2025 under the “75/25” initiative. Recognized globally, IHCI is improving equitable access to care, reducing uncontrolled hypertension, and strengthening primary healthcare systems.

765. India’s kala-azar cases declined 98.7% since 2007: Health ministry
- Kala-azar cases in India fell to 834 in 2022 from 44,533 in 2007 — a 98.7 per cent decline, the Union Health Minister stated on January 4, 2023.
- As many as 632 endemic blocks (99.8 per cent) spread across Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and West Bengal have received elimination status (less than one case per 10,000).
- After malaria, kala-azar is the deadliest parasitic disease in the world. It is one of the three conditions in the disease group called leishmaniasis caused by the protozoa parasite Leishmania.
- The parasite is transmitted to humans by the bite of an infected female phlebotomine sandfly, a tiny 2-3 mm long insect vector, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

766. India TB Report-2024: Missing cases shrinking, 95% got treatment in 2023
- The gap between the estimated number and actual cases of tuberculosis (TB) is closing, according to the India TB Report 2024 released by the Union Health ministry.
- There were only 2.3 lakh missing cases in 2023, as compared to 3.2 lakh the year before, the report states. This gap has been reducing over the years, especially with the government’s Ni-kshay portal tracking all TB patients.
- According to the report, the majority of the TB cases are still reported by the government health centres, even as there has been an uptick in notifications by the private sector. Nearly 33% or 8.4 lakh of the 25.5 lakh cases reported in 2023 came from the private sector.
- To compare, only 1.9 lakh cases were reported by the private sector in 2015, the year considered to be the baseline by the programme that is geared towards the elimination of the disease.

767. Andhra Pradesh and the race to build India’s ‘largest electric air taxi hub’
- On November 19, 2025 It was reported that, At the CII Summit on November 14–15, 2025 in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh signed an agreement with Bengaluru-based Sarla Aviation to establish India’s largest electric air taxi manufacturing hub—‘Sky Factory’—in Anantapur, beginning Phase-1 construction at Thimmasamudram.
- Sarla Aviation will invest ₹1,300 crore to build a 150-acre eVTOL manufacturing, R&D and testing campus with a 2-km runway, targeting flight tests by 2027 and commercial production by 2029; expansion to 350 additional acres is planned.
- Parallelly, US-based Carbonatik LLC will invest ₹12,400 crore in inland waterways, an Urban Water Metro, and India’s largest aviation MRO hub in Kurnool, supporting eVTOL, drone manufacturing, cargo terminals, FTO facilities, and future greenfield port and yacht infrastructure.

768. India’s Space Economy To Touch $45 Bn In Next Decade, Says Jitendra Singh
- On November 19, 2025 It was reported that, At an event in New Delhi, Minister Minister of State (IC) for Science & Technology said India’s space economy—currently USD 8 billion—is projected to grow to USD 44–45 billion within a decade, driven by major policy reforms and expanding national and global partnerships.
- Speakers including ISRO astronaut Gp Capt Shubhanshu Shukla, Italian Ambassador Antonio Bartoli, Japan’s DCM Takashi Ariyoshi, IN-SPACe Chair Pawan Goenka, and ISpA leaders highlighted collaboration, private investment, demand creation, and inspirational human spaceflight as key growth drivers.

769. Elimination of trachoma as a public health problem in India
- The World Health Organization has validated India as having eliminated trachoma as a public health problem. Trachoma is one of the leading causes of blindness globally. India joins Nepal and Myanmar in the WHO South-East Asia Region and 19 other countries globally that have previously achieved this feat.
- In 1963, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in India initiated a trachoma control project with support from WHO and UNICEF.
- The community-based interventions to eliminate trachoma consisted of surgical treatment, topical antibiotic treatment, and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) initiatives, along with health education promoting behavior change to decrease transmission.
- In 2005, trachoma was responsible for 4% of all cases of blindness in India. By 2018, the prevalence of trachoma was down to 0.008%. A series of impact, pre-validation and trichiasis-only surveys were completed in 2024, confirmed that elimination targets had been met in all previously endemic evaluation units.

770. Indian Army secures IPR for newly designed digital-print combat coat
- On November 19, 2025, It was reported that, the Indian Army secured exclusive IPR for its new Coat Combat (Digital Print), designed by NIFT New Delhi, after its design was officially registered with the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trademarks in Kolkata,The new combat coat, unveiled in January 2025.
- Developed by NIFT under an Army Design Bureau project, the three-layer combat coat uses advanced technical textiles and ergonomic design, enhancing mobility, durability, and performance. IPR protection prevents unauthorised production, enabling strict legal action against violations.
- The ensemble includes a digital camouflage outer coat, insulated inner jacket, and a thermal base layer. The Ministry of Defence said the innovation aligns with Atmanirbhar Bharat and the Army’s Decade of Transformation (2023–2032) for modern, indigenous soldier systems.
