1471. India’s manufacturing PMI rises to 16-month high in July despite global uncertainties
- On 01 August 2025, S&P Global reported that India’s manufacturing PMI rose to a 16-month high of 59.1 in July, up from 58.4 in June, driven by strong new orders and output despite global uncertainties and US tariffs.
- The rise was fuelled by robust domestic and global demand. However, business confidence dipped to a 3-year low due to concerns over competition and inflation. Private sector also saw a surge, with composite PMI climbing to 60.7, and international orders increasing.
- Employment rose, especially in the services sector. IMF revised India’s GDP growth forecast upward to 6.4% for both FY26 and FY27, citing improved external conditions. Business sentiment and hiring showed moderation despite strong sector performance.

1472. Isro begins 10-day analogue mission in Ladakh to simulate life in space
- On August 1, 2025, ISRO initiated a 10 day analogue mission in Hanle, Ladakh, simulating space like conditions to study how humans would adapt and operate during long duration stays on the Moon or Mars.
- The Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA) is collaborating in the mission, which includes two astronaut like test subjects. The project aims to develop protocols for crew health, behavior, and scientific experiments under isolated and extreme conditions.
- The mission is a significant step in preparing for India’s future human spaceflight programs like Gaganyaan and interplanetary missions. It will help test life-support systems, communication protocols, and survival techniques in a controlled but challenging Earth environment.

1473. Construction of India’s first indigenous hovercraft for Coast Guard begins at Goa Shipyard
- On July 30, 2025, The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has commenced construction of its first indigenously built Air Cushion Vehicle (ACV) at the Chowgule & Company Pvt. Ltd. shipyard in Goa. This is the first of six Air Cushion Vehicles (ACVs) approved under a contract signed with the Ministry of Defence on October 24, 2024.
- Based on Griffon Hoverwork designs, the hovercraft is being built with Indian expertise for coastal security operations. It will offer high speed, shallow-water operability, and tactical flexibility for patrolling, interdiction, and search & rescue.
- The project is part of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative to boost indigenous defence manufacturing. The indigenous hovercraft will strengthen the Coast Guard’s capability to protect India’s maritime borders, reduce reliance on imports, and support the government’s push for self-reliance in defence production.
1474. India's services exports rise 12% in June 2025, imports 5%: RBI
- On 01 August 2025, RBI reported India’s international trade in services for June 2025 showed strong momentum: exports rose by 12.0% (USD 32.11 billion), and imports by 5.0% (USD 15.90 billion) year-on-year, reflecting continued strength in IT, business, and financial services.
- Growth in services exports followed a positive trend from April and May 2025. On the other hand, credit growth across key sectors slowed in June, with non-food credit expanding 10.2% YoY, compared to 13.8% in June 2024 mainly due to weaker growth in agriculture, industry, and personal loans.
- Credit to agriculture grew just 6.8% vs 17.4% last year; industry at 5.5% vs 7.7%; services at 9.6% vs 15.1%. MSME credit remained steady; segments like engineering, construction, and software showed healthy gains. Personal loans rose 14.7%, down from 16.6% in June 2024.

1475. 1 MW Green Hydrogen Plant Inaugurated at Kandla Port
- On August 1, 2025, Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways inaugurated India’s first 1 MW green hydrogen plant at Deendayal Port in Kandla, Gujarat. The hydrogen plant supports the National Green Hydrogen Mission aimed at clean energy use in the port and shipping sector.
- The plant will generate around 200 kilograms of green hydrogen per day using solar energy through an electrolysis process. This hydrogen will primarily serve internal port operations, such as fueling trucks and cranes, reducing fossil fuel use.
- The initiative is designed to help Deendayal Port achieve net zero emissions. It also marks a major step in decarbonizing India's maritime infrastructure, aligning with the country’s climate goals and green port strategies.
1476. Government okays Rs 11,169 crore multitracking projects of Indian Railways
- On August 1, 2025, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved four major railway multitracking projects worth ₹11,169 crore across Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, and Jharkhand. The projects aim to add 574 km to the Indian Railways network by 2028–29.
- The approved projects are part of the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan to enhance multi-modal connectivity.These projects will benefit 2,309 villages with a population of 43.6 lakh and are expected to generate 2.29 crore person-days of employment during construction.
- The upgrades will boost rail capacity, reduce congestion, and enable an additional 95.91 million tonnes per annum of freight movement. They will also strengthen key freight corridors for transporting coal, cement, agricultural goods, petroleum products, and other essential commodities supporting economic growth and faster logistics.
1477. Meghalaya announces Rs 500 crore transformation plan for Tura ahead of National Games
- On July 31, 2025, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma announced a ₹500 crore development package for Tura to prepare for the National Games 2027, focusing on sports infrastructure, administrative facilities, and urban transformation, as reported by India Today Northeast.
- Key projects include ₹127.7 crore for PA Sangma Stadium upgrades, ₹73.74 crore for a sports hostel, ₹48.5 crore for PA Togan Athletic Stadium, ₹18.9 crore for Sunny Hills Indoor Hall, ₹160 crore for a new secretariat, ₹52 crore for a convention centre, and ₹15 crore for a hospitality complex.
- The initiative, part of a broader ₹1,900 crore sports investment plan, aims to position Tura as a sporting and administrative hub, with projects addressing community needs and supporting events like the National Games, following Tura’s successful hosting of the 2024 Meghalaya Games.

1478. India Announces Mega Hydro Project In J&K After Indus Treaty Suspension
- On July 31, 2025, India announced the revival of the 1,856 MW Sawalkote Hydroelectric Project on the Chenab River in Jammu and Kashmir, following the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan on April 22, 2025, after the Pahalgam terror attack
- The National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) invited international bids for the project, set to be built near Sidhu village in Ramban district, with a submission deadline of September 10, 2025, marking a significant step to bypass treaty restrictions that previously required Pakistan’s approval.
- Conceived in the 1960s, the project, a joint venture with J&K State Power Development Corporation, faced delays due to bureaucratic issues and Pakistan’s objections over potential impacts on Chenab River flows, critical for Pakistan’s agriculture.
1479. J&K Sports Council Approves Multi-Crore Projects to Upgrade Sports Infrastructure in Ganderbal and Budgam
- On July 31, 2025, the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council approved five multi-crore projects worth over ₹394 lakhs to upgrade sports infrastructure in Ganderbal and Budgam districts, focusing on playfields, volleyball courts, and stadium facilities
- The projects, including upgrades at Manigam, Kangan, Wakura, MM Stadium, and Gundherwan Sherpathri, aim to enhance youth engagement and athletic development, with a completion timeline of 360 days and eligibility for AYY and BEE Class contractors.
- Specific works include pitch completion, fencing, and volleyball court construction, with costs ranging from ₹44.488 lakhs to ₹95.40 lakhs per project, funded under the council’s efforts to boost grassroots sports infrastructure.
1480. Centre constructs 16,207 km of highways, sanctions ₹69,342 crore for railway projects in Northeast
- On July 31, 2025, the central government informed Parliament that it has constructed 16,207 km of National Highways and sanctioned ₹69,342 crore for railway projects to enhance infrastructure in the Northeastern Region, including 12 railway projects covering 777 km, with 278 km already commissioned.
- To boost rural connectivity and development, 17,637 road works and 2,398 bridges were sanctioned under PMGSY, and 6,355 Gram Panchayats were made service-ready under BharatNet. These efforts aim to improve infrastructure, digital access, and logistics for economic growth in remote Northeastern areas.
- Under the UDAN scheme, 90 air routes connecting 12 airports and heliports were made operational. The PM-DevINE scheme (₹6,600 crore, 2022–26) focuses on infrastructure, youth-women livelihood, and social development. MDoNER also supports tourism, connectivity, and communication across all eight Northeastern states.
