- On December 24, 2025, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launched its heaviest mission to date from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota, using the LVM3‑M6 heavy‑lift rocket, nicknamed “Bahubali.” The rocket placed the 6,100 kg BlueBird Block‑2 communication satellite built by US company AST SpaceMobile under a commercial contract with NewSpace India Ltd (NSIL)—precisely into its intended Low Earth Orbit (LEO) after a 15‑min
- The satellite, part of a global LEO constellation by AST SpaceMobile through NewSpace India Ltd, will provide direct-to-mobile 4G/5G connectivity worldwide, including voice, data, and streaming services.
- This mission set a payload record for LVM3, reinforced ISRO’s commercial launch capabilities, and contributes to India’s growing role in space technology and international collaborations, supporting future projects like Gaganyaan.
424. Akash-NG missile system user trials successfully conducted: DRDO
- On Tuesday 23 December 2025, India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), with support from the Indian Air Force and defence industry partners, successfully completed user evaluation trials of the next‑generation Akash‑NG air defence missile system, demonstrating its effectiveness against a range of aerial threats under varied conditions.
- Trials were at Integrated Test Range, Chandipur, Odisha; the missile, with indigenous RF seeker, dual‑pulse solid rocket, and homegrown radars, intercepted high-speed, low-altitude and long-range targets.
- This milestone paves the way for the induction of Akash‑NG into the Indian Armed Forces, significantly enhancing India’s indigenous air defence capabilities and marking a major step in modernising the nation’s surface‑to‑air missile systems.
425. SUVs now India's biggest vehicle export, surpassing small cars
- On December 24, 2025, it was reported that in a significant shift in India’s automobile export landscape in November 2025, utility vehicles (including SUVs) overtook traditional passenger cars in exports, with 42,993 UVs shipped overseas compared to 40,519 passenger cars, marking the first time SUVs have led in export volumes. This change reflects rising global demand for higher‑value vehicles produced in India.
- Over the broader April–November 2025 period, UV exports surged sharply from 2.22 lakh units to 2.88 lakh units year‑on‑year, while passenger car exports grew more modestly from 2.71 lakh to 3.04 lakh units, indicating that SUVs are poised to surpass cars for the full fiscal year FY26. This demonstrates how production and export patterns are evolving toward utility vehicles.
- Maruti Suzuki continues to dominate India’s passenger vehicle export market contributing over 47 % of total vehicle exports with strong performance in both car and SUV segments, supported by other key players like Hyundai, Nissan, and Toyota in the UV space. This competitive export ecosystem is helping India transition from a small‑car export base to a hub for higher‑value UVs.
