2671. NIT To Setup Drone Pilot Training Centre
- On February 8, 2025, the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar, in collaboration with NIELIT, announced plans to establish a state-of-the-art Drone Pilot Training Centre. The initiative was revealed during the Entrepreneurship and Skill Development Program (ESDP), which concluded at NIT Srinagar.
- The six-week training program on drone technology was organized by the Department of Mechanical Engineering, NIT Srinagar, in partnership with MSME PPDC Sanath Nagar and NIELIT Srinagar, and sponsored by the Ministry of MSME, Government of India. The event was attended by 25 participants from Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh.
- The initiative includes a six-month collaborative certificate course jointly run by NIT Srinagar and NIELIT, with faculty members and scientists working together to advance UAV technology research in Kashmir. Dr. Rajendran, a faculty member, has obtained a DGCA license to fly drones up to 25 kg and is undergoing RPTO Trainer license training to further enhance expertise in the field. The program has also witnessed increased participation from women, reflecting a growing interest in drone technology among female students.

2672. ISRO Successfully Tests Indigenous Cryogenic Engine For Gaganyaan Mission
- ISRO on February 8, 2025, said that it has successfully carried out the ignition trial of the indigenous CE20 cryogenic engine powering the upper stage of LVM3, with a Multi-element igniter under vacuum conditions, which simulates the engine ignition in the vacuum condition of space.
- This test was carried out on Friday in the High Altitude Test Facility at ISRO Propulsion Complex, Mahendragiri, Tamil Nadu, ISRO said in a statement. This engine is crucial for the Gaganyaan mission, India’s ambitious crewed space mission.

2673. Private chopper firm begins operations for Indian Army near Indo-China border
- A Kerala-based private helicopter enterprise, owned by a former IAF group captain, commenced operations for the Indian Army on Thursday, delivering cargo to remote forward posts near the Indo-China border.
- IN 2024, the Indian Army finalised contracts worth Rs 65 crore with three civil aviation firms to utilise their rotary aircraft for logistical support, including food, fuel, medical supplies, and other provisions for distant forward posts along India's northern and western frontiers.
- The Indian Army operates in challenging terrain along the border, with numerous forward positions remaining inaccessible by road, despite ongoing construction activities.
2674. 23 Indian Startups Raise Over $138 Million In Funding This Week
- At least 23 Indian startups raised more than $138 million in funding From February 2 to 9 February, 2025 which included five growth-stage deals and 20 early-stage rounds.
- from January 26 to February 2, 2025, 30 Indian startups secured a total of $240.85 million in funding including five growth-stage investments and 20 early-stage rounds.
- TrueFoundry, a leading AI deployment and scaling platform, raised $19 million in Series A funding, led by Intel Capital.
2675. Tripura CM launches 'Skill Uday Tongai' programme to empower 80,000 students
- On February 8, 2025, Tripura Chief Minister launched the ‘Skill Uday Tongai’ skill development training programme at the Tripura Institute of Technology, Narsingarh, Agartala, aimed at empowering 80,000 school and college students.
- Key initiatives launched alongside the programme: State MIS Portal for monitoring education and training programs. Career Guidance Programme for 70,000 girl students across 983 schools. NSDC Programme to provide skill training for 7,000 college students. English Employability and Entrepreneurship (EEE) Programme benefiting 1,600 students.
- CM Saha also inspected Drone Technology, highlighting its potential to boost employment and productivity in agriculture, security, power services, disaster management, and healthcare. Additionally, he emphasized that Tripura’s future lies in skill-based education, urging teachers to strengthen students’ foundations from an early age. 2676. Tripura business conclave attracts proposals worth Rs 3,683 crore
- On February 8, 2025, Tripura’s ‘Destination Tripura: Business Conclave-2025’ concluded with the signing of 87 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) worth ₹3,683 crore, signaling a strong investor interest in the state’s industrial potential. The conclave, held in Agartala, was attended by Chief Minister, who urged businesses to set up industries in the state.
- Tripura offers key natural resources such as natural gas, tea, rubber, bamboo, and agar, making it an attractive destination for industrial expansion. The state produces over 1 lakh metric tonnes of raw rubber annually and has over 2,000 hectares of agar plantations in non-forest areas. Saha also highlighted Tripura’s growing infrastructure, including the Maitri Setu bridge and Indo-Bangladesh railway line, positioning the state as a gateway to Southeast Asia.

2680. Kerala Announces K-HOME Scheme To Offer Vacant Houses To Tourists,
- On 8 february 2025 , Kerala Finance Minister KN Balagopal has announced the implementation of the K-HOME scheme in Kerala.
- The scheme will be run initially across four districts. The scheme aims to maximise the use of unoccupied houses by providing accommodation to tourists, thereby bolstering tourism development.
- The pilot scheme will focus on areas within a 10-km radius of popular tourist destinations such as Fort Kochi, Munnar, Kumarakom, and Kovalam.
