1101. GoI Approves Three New Medical Colleges for Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh
- The Indian government has greenlit the establishment of three new medical colleges in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, marking a significant step in expanding medical education and healthcare access in underserved regions, the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.
- Under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS), Jammu & Kashmir will see new medical colleges in Udhampur and Handwara in Kupwara district, while Ladakh will get its inaugural medical college in Leh. The initiative aligns with New Delhi’s broader push to establish 157 medical colleges nationwide, prioritizing aspirational districts.
- Jammu & Kashmir already hosts five medical colleges in Anantnag, Baramulla, Rajouri, Doda, and Kathua, set up under earlier phases of the scheme. The region has also secured approval for 196 postgraduate (PG) seats and 60 MBBS seats across various institutions to bolster medical training opportunities.

1102. Government sets up 20 dialysis centres under PM-NDP
- The government has established 20 dialysis centres across all of Jammu and Kashmir to promote the Pradhan Mantri National Dialysis Programme (PM-NDP).
- According to health officials, at least five to eight dialysis machines have been installed in each of the dialysis centres in all 20 districts. Over 125 machines have been installed in J&K.
- A total of 62 dialysis machines were provided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, GoI, 40 by the World Bank and 22 procured under the National Health Mission in J&K. “Thousands of dialysis sessions have been conducted so far.

1103. Rural roads built under PMGSY cross 7.83 lakh km mark
- On September 14, 2025,Over 1.83 lakh rural roads totalling 7,83,727 km have been completed under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) so far, along with 9,891 bridges leading to far greater connectivity for remote villages.
- 1.91 lakh roads (8,38,611 km) and 12,146 bridges have already been sanctioned under PMGSY. The scheme is increasingly incorporating green technologies with 1,66,694 km of roads sanctioned under such methods and 1,24,688 km already built using eco-friendly or non-conventional construction practices.
- The programme includes targeted work in Left-Wing Extremism affected districts across nine states to improve security and accessibility. The government has also approved Phase IV (since Sept 2024) to connect 25,000 unconnected habitations, especially in special category areas, tribal regions, hill/desert regions, aspirational districts, etc.

1104. 8 dead as avalanche hits BRO camp in Uttarakhand's Mana
- On 28 February 2025, eight people died after a Border Road Organisation (BRO) camp in Mana was struck by an avalanche. A total of 46 persons had been rescued and were under various stages of treatment.

1105. Operation Jal Rahat 2: Indian Army Launches Massive Relief Ops Amid Rains In Himachal, North East
- As relentless monsoon rains continue to batter parts of Himachal Pradesh and the North Eastern states, the Indian Army has stepped up as the nation's first responder, launching large-scale relief and rescue operations across multiple disaster-hit zones.
- From the flood-ravaged villages of Mandi district in Himachal to submerged localities in Nagaland, Assam and Manipur, Army columns are working day and night to deliver critical humanitarian aid and ensure no one is left behind.
- India’s North East, the Army has activated ‘Operation Jal Rahat 2’ following widespread flooding caused by heavy rains. The operation is being spearheaded by Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (North), with coordinated deployment in Nagaland, Assam, and Manipur.
- As of July 10, 2025 the Army has deployed 40 relief columns across the North East—24 primary columns and 16 in reserve. These teams have already rescued over 3,820 individuals, distributed more than 1,361 food packets, delivered medical assistance to over 2,000 people, and supplied nearly 15,500 bottles of drinking water.

1107. Army emerges as lifeline for flood-hit villages in Himachal Pradesh
- In the mist-laden hills of Himachal Pradesh, where breathtaking landscapes have turned into scenes of devastation, the Indian Army has emerged as a vital support system for flood-affected villages grappling with nature’s fury.
- Relentless rain and floods have battered Mandi district, severely impacting remote villages such as Thunag, Degi, Rushad and Chapad. 1108. Indian Army launches ‘Operation SHIVA’ to ensure safe Amarnath Yatra in Kashmir
- Jammu and Kashmir govt on 17 July 2025, morning suspended the pilgrimage to Amarnath shrine from the Jammu, Pahalgam, and Baltal base camps till the tracks, damaged due to incessant rain, are repaired.
- BRO has deployed men and machinery to repair the tracks for the resumption of the yatra on July 18, 2025.
- Army rescued about 500 pilgrims stranded in landslides triggered by heavy rain. About 2.5 lakh pilgrims have performed darshan at the cave shrine in the first 15 days of the 38-day yatra through the traditional Pahalgam route and the shorter Baltal route.

1110. Army Deploys Chopper To Rescue Boy Trapped In Flood In J&K's Rajouri
- In a high-risk rescue operation, the Indian Army, along with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), local police, and civilian divers, successfully rescued a minor boy who was trapped in the middle of a flooded river in Rajouri.
- The incident occurred following heavy rainfall in the region, which led to the sudden rise in water levels of the Rajouri river. Eyewitnesses reported the boy had become stranded on a rock in the middle of the surging waters, with no escape route as the current intensified.
- Upon receiving the alert, a joint rescue operation was launched. Local administration swiftly coordinated efforts with SDRF and police units, while the Indian Army was called in for aerial support due to the precarious nature of the situation.
