23261. India's exports jump 58% to hit all-time high of $34 billion in March
- India’s merchandise exports witnessed a huge jump of 58 per cent year-on-year (YoY) and touched a record $34 billion in March, indicating a recovery in demand, preliminary data released by the government showed. Sequentially, the growth in merchandise exports was 21 per cent.
- “Make in India, Make for the World: Merchandise exports in March 2021 grew by 58 per cent YoY to $34 billion, the highest ever in Indian history. PM Narendra Modi ji’s trade policies have propelled Indian economy to historic new heights, even amidst the pandemic,” Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal tweeted.
- The top five commodity exports in March were other cereals (323.65 per cent growth), oil meals (228.4 per cent), iron ore (194.98 per cent), jute manufacturing including floor covering (105.19 per cent), and carpets (89.86 per cent), data showed.
- Value of non-petroleum and non-gems and jewellery exports in March 2021 was $27.25 billion, compared with $16.95 billion in March 2020, a growth of 60.72 per cent. Non-oil, non-gems and jewellery (gold, silver & precious metals) imports were $27.01 billion in March, compared with $18.70 billion a year ago, also a growth of 44.45 per cent,” the commerce ministry said

23262. India’s gold import surges 471% to record 160 tons, may support bullions' prices
- India traded in as many as 160 tons of golds in March, marking up an upsurge of a whopping 471 per cent compared to the same time a year earlier, a top Government official had said
- latest rise in imports of golds in the South-east Asia’s largest economic HubSpot, India, which had shipped in an approximated $32.2 billion worth of golds before the onset of pandemic outbreak, comes over the heels of a major policy change that involves a decline in import taxations, while a latest plunge in gold futures’ prices in global commodity markets, added to further bullish wing to a gold buying-bonanza for both retail buyers and jewellers.

23263. Engineering exports jump 70% in March marking a major rebound
- Exports of engineering goods from the country recorded an impressive 70.28 per cent growth in March. India's total merchandise exports during this period were $34 billion as compared to $21.49 billion in March 2020 registering a jump of 58.23 per cent. The monthly growth is the best-ever performance so far.
- Stellar performance by the engineering goods sector pushed the overall merchandise exports in March. It is among the major commodity groups of export which recorded positive growth during March 2021 along with iron ore, electronic goods and gems and jewellery.
- Engineering items account for about 25 per cent of India's total global exports in the goods sector and is one of the largest foreign exchange earners.It employs nearly 4 million skilled and semi-skilled workers.

23264. New mechanism to monitor imports of aluminium, copper
- In line with the import monitoring system for steel and coal, the government has decided to put in place a mechanism to monitor imports of aluminium and copper to capture disaggregated data for effective monitoring and policy intervention.
- The directorate general of foreign trade (DGFT) has said in a notification that the import policy for copper and aluminium has been amended from “free” to “free with compulsory registration” under the non-ferrous metal import monitoring system (NFMIMS).
- NFMIMS shall require importers to submit advance information in an online system for imports of copper and aluminium and obtain an automatic registration number by paying a registration fee of Rs 500,” the DGFT said in a notification.
- Under NFMIMS, the importer can apply for registration not earlier than the 60th day and not later than the fifth day before the expected date of arrival of the import consignment. The automatic number shall remain valid for 75 days. The importer shall have to enter the registration number and expiry date for registration in the Bill of Entry to enable customs for clearance of the consignment, the notification said.

23265. With US Set To Ease Sanctions On Iran, India To Resume Iranian Crude Import: Report
- India will soon begin purchasing crude oil from Iran as the United States is expected to ease sanctions on the Islamic republic that were imposed during the erstwhile Trump administration.
- Indian refiners have started their preparatory work and will get into contractual agreements as soon as US and other countries restore the Iran nuclear deal at their meeting in Vienna, following which the sanctions could be lifted.
- Iranian crude is set to provide a longer credit cycle in addition to shorter voyage savings on freight costs to the customers. Tehran gives a credit of 60 days on purchases, which is a term that is not available in crudes supplied from Nigeria, Iraq, US, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.

23266. Exports from Indian sellers hit $3-billion mark for Amazon
- Amazon India said small and medium sellers on its platform have sold goods worth over $3 billion to foreign buyers since the company began its export-focused global selling programme in 2015.
- The e-commerce firm said it has digitized 2.5 million micro, small and medium entrepreneurs (MSMEs) and helped create nearly 1 million jobs in the country till date.
- Amazon’s Global Selling programme, also operational in other markets, has helped around 70,000 India-based sellers to reach 17 international markets. The biggest market for Amazon’s Indian exporters is the US.
- In a challenging year, Amazon helped create nearly 3,00,000 direct and indirect jobs across industries including information technology, skill development, content creation, retail, logistics, and manufacturing.

23267. India exports 2.49 mn tonne of sugar so far, maximum to Indonesia: AISTA
- Sugar mills have exported 2.49 million tonnes of the sweetener so far in the ongoing 2020-21 marketing year ending September, with maximum shipments to Indonesia, trade body AISTA said. Mills have contracted to export 3.33 million tonnes of sugar so far as against the 6 million tonnes quota assigned by the food ministry, All India Sugar Trade Association (AISTA) said in a statement.
- According to AISTA, mills have exported a total of 2.49 million tonne of sugar from January 1 till April 9, 2021. An additional 3,03,450 tonne of sugar is in transit and delivered to port-based refineries.

23268. स्वदेशी रक्षा उत्पादों में 75 फीसदी तक विदेशी सामग्री का इस्तेमाल, इलेक्ट्रॉनिक वारफेयर उपकरण में 22 फीसदी विदेशी कलपुर्जे
- रक्षा उत्पादन में तेजी तो आ रही है लेकिन जो सामग्री तैयार हो रही है, उसके निर्माण के लिए विदेशों से आयातित कुलपुर्जों पर निर्भरता लगातार बनी हुई है। रक्षा मंत्रालय के आंकड़ों के अनुसार पोतों के निर्माण में 75 फीसदी और वायुयानों के निर्माण में 60 फीसदी तक सामग्री विदेशों से आयात करनी पड़ रही है।
- तेजस लड़ाकू विमान समेत अन्य वायुयानों का निर्माण करने वाले हिन्दुस्तान एयरोनाटिक्स लिमिटेड (एचएएल) 40-60 फीसदी तक विदेशी कंपोनेंट का इस्तेमाल कर रहा है। मंत्रालय द्वारा दिए गए ब्योरे के अनुसार सुखोई-30 एमकेआई में 40, तेजस में 43, एएलएच में 44 तथा डीओ-228 वायुयान में 60 फीसदी कल पुर्जे विदेशों से आयातित हैं।
- रक्षा मंत्रालय के अनुसार जंगी पोतों का निर्माण करने वाली सार्वजनिक रक्षा कंपनी एमडीएल के प्रोजेक्ट 15बी और 17 ए पोतों के निर्माण में 72-75 फीसदी विदेशी कंपोनेंट का इस्तेमाल किया जा रहा है। इसी प्रकार राडार, कम्युनिकेशन तथा इलेक्ट्रॉनिक वारफेयर उपकरण बनाने वाले सार्वजनिक उपक्रम बीईएल ने पिछले तीन सालों के दौरान 22-27 फीसदी तक विदेशी कुल-पुर्जों का इस्तेमाल किया है।

23269. India allows additional 3,675 tonnes of sugar export to UK under concessional duty quota
- The government has permitted export of an additional 3,675 tonnes of raw/refined sugar under tariff-rate quota to the United Kingdom. TRQ (Tariff-Rate Quota) is for a volume of exports that enter the UK at relatively low tariffs. After the quota is reached, a higher tariff applies to the exports.
- This additional quantity of sugar is beyond the EU (European Union) CXL sugar quota of 10,000 tonnes during 2020-21 notified by the DGFT last year.
- "The additional quantity of 3,675.13 tonne of raw/rIndia allows additional 3,675 tonnes of sefined sugar to be exported to UK under TRQ up to September 30 this year is notified," Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said in a public notice.

23270. कोरोना काल में गैर-बासमती चावल का निर्यात 129फीसदी बढ़ा, गेहूं में 727 फीसदी की बढ़त
- फसल वर्ष 2020-21 (जुलाई-जून) के दूसरे अग्रिम उत्पादन अनुमान के अनुसार देश में चाावल और गेहूं के रिकॉर्ड उत्पादन के साथ खाद्यान का कुल उत्पादन 30.33 करोड़ टन रह सकता है
- गैर-बासमती चावल के निर्यात में बीते वित्त वर्ष 2020-21 के दौरान 129 फीसदी का उछाल आया
- गेहूं के निर्यात में 727 फीसदी का इजाफा हुआ। भारत ने 2020-21 में करीब 51.55 करोड़ डॉलर मूल्य का गेहूं निर्यात किया है जबकि इससे पिछले साल 2019-20 में भारत ने 6.23 करोड़ डॉलर मूल्य का गेहूं निर्यात किया था। इस प्रकार, गेहूं के निर्यात में 727 फीसदी का इजाफा हुआ है।
