1651. India’s Toy Industry: A Global Powerhouse in the Making
- On 3 July 2025, it was reported that India’s toy industry has significantly evolved from a fragmented, import-heavy market to a globally competitive sector, driven by strong government policies, rising consumer demand, and increasing export opportunities, with toy exports growing 60% and imports declining over 70% between FY19 and FY24.
- Valued at $1.9 billion in 2024, India’s toy market is projected to grow to $4.7 billion by 2033, with a CAGR of 12%. Government initiatives like higher import duties, mandatory BIS standards, SFURTI scheme, and District Export Hubs have strengthened local manufacturing.
- India exports toys to markets like the US, Middle East, and Africa, with a focus on dolls, board games, and soft toys. The e-commerce boom and omnichannel retail strategies have widened consumer access, especially in Tier II and III cities.

1652. APEDA Launches 'Indian Mango Mania 2025' In Abu Dhabi To Boost Mango Exports
- On 4 July , 2025 It was reported that, The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has launched ‘Indian Mango Mania 2025’ in Abu Dhabi, in its efforts to enhance the global profile of Indian agricultural exports.
- The initiative, held in collaboration with the Embassy of India, UAE and the Lulu Group, is part of a broader mango promotion programme designed to spotlight India’s diverse and premium mango varieties during peak season.
- Premium varieties showcased at the festival included GI-tagged and regionally renowned cultivars such as Banarasi Langda, Dasheri, Chausa, Amrapali, Sunderja, Malda, Bharat Bhog, Lakshman Bhog, Prabha Shankar, Mahmood Bahar, Vrindavani, Fasli, and Mallika.

1653. India's Pharma Exports Touch $4.96 Bn In Apr-May FY26, Says Pharmexcil
- On 3 July, 2025, It was reported that, India’s pharmaceutical sector continues to gain global traction, with exports reaching USD 2,475.70 million in May 2025 and a cumulative USD 4,961.71 million for April–May FY26, according to data released by the Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India (Pharmexcil).
- Bulk drugs and intermediates followed, growing by 4.40 per cent, while vaccines showed the highest surge at 13.64 per cent, reaching USD 190.13 million.
- Pharmexcil is strengthening buyer-seller linkages through international platforms such as iPHEX 2025, scheduled for September 4–6 under Bharat Health. The event is expected to showcase India’s pharmaceutical innovation and foster global partnerships.

1654. Defence Acquisition Council clears ₹1.05 lakh crore indigenous deals in first meeting after Operation Sindoor
- The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defence Minister On July 3, 2025 accorded Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for 10 capital acquisition proposals valued at ₹1.05 lakh crore through indigenous sourcing. It was the first DAC meeting after Operation Sindoor to enhance capabilities of the armed forces.
- The agenda of the council’s meeting was to enhance India’s air defence capabilities along the Pakistan border. The procurement of indigenous Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile (QRSAM) systems worth ₹30,000 crore for the Indian Army has been approved.
- “AoNs were also accorded for procurement of Moored Mines, Mine Counter Measure Vessels, Super Rapid Gun Mount and Submersible Autonomous Vessels.
1655. SMPP bags Rs 300 cr orders from Indian Army
- On 4 July, 2025, It was reported that, Defence equipment manufacturer SMPP Ltd has bagged two orders worth Rs 300 crore from the Indian Army, the company said.
- Under the order, the company will supply bulletproof jackets and advanced ballistic helmets to the Indian Army under the emergency provision, SMPP said in a statement.
- SMPP is an indigenous designer and manufacturer of defence equipment, including ammunition components and personal protection products. The company has a manufacturing facility at Palwal (Haryana).
1656. India's Coffee Exports Rise 19% In Value Despite Volume Decline
- On 3 July 2025, It was reported that, India's coffee exports demonstrated strong financial performance during the June quarter, with shipment values increasing by 19 percent to approximately USD 616 million despite an 18 percent decline in export volumes.
- According to the latest data from the Coffee Board, export volumes during the June, 2025 quarter, calculated based on permits issued, totalled 1.03 lakh tonnes, representing a decrease from the 1.27 lakh tonnes shipped during the same period in the previous year.
- The country exports more than two-thirds of its total coffee production, which amounts to approximately 3.6 lakh tonnes annually.

1658. Indore Launches India’s First QR-Based Digital House Address System
- On 3 July 2025, It was reported that, In a landmark move under India’s Smart Cities Mission, the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) had launched the Digital House Address Project, integrating QR codes and GPS technology to replace conventional address formats.
- The first-of-its-kind initiative in the country is set to redefine urban administration, improve civic service delivery, and bring standardisation to India’s chaotic addressing system.
- The first official deployment of QR-based address plates in India, seamlessly integrated with the national Digipin system, and offers a scalable model for digital urban infrastructure.

1659. Govt working to extend Rs 3,500-crore PLI benefits to BIS-compliant toys
- The Indian government is planning a ₹3,500 crore Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme to boost domestic toy manufacturing as per BIS standards.
- The scheme aims to reduce unsafe toy imports from China—imports fell from $371 million (FY19) to $110 million (FY22), a drop of over 70%.
- With most toy makers being small/medium enterprises, incentives and turnover are expected to range between ₹5–7 crore. Around 1,000 toy licenses have already been issued.
- India is the 2nd largest polyester producer and holds an 8% global share in plush toys—expected to become a major toy manufacturing hub through PLI and related initiatives.

1660. MeitY Announces Electronic Toy Hackathon (e-Toycathon)
- on 23 November 2024, The Ministry of Electronics & IT (MeitY), in partnership with C-DAC and LEGO Group, conducted a one-year training program under the project titled “Development of Electronics and IT-based Control and Automation Solutions for Consumer Electronic Goods (Toy Industry)”.
- The program focused on training young engineers, particularly from SC/ST and Northeastern Region (NER) backgrounds, in designing and developing electronic toys.
- The LEGO Group partnered as a knowledge partner, with Sam Coates (Head of Innovation, Creative Play Lab) conducting webinars and providing feedback on toy design and development standards, helping students align with global innovation practices.
