1411. SECI Signs MoU with Renewable Energy Agency Puducherry to Solarise Govt Buildings
- On 13 August, 2025 It was reported that, Solar Energy Corporation of India Ltd. (SECI), a Navratna CPSU under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Renewable Energy Agency Puducherry (REAP) for solarisation of all the government buildings in the Union Territory of Puducherry.
- The MoUs aim to promote renewable energy adoption, enhance energy efficiency, and support India’s clean energy goals by developing solar, floating solar, battery storage, pumped storage, and hybrid energy projects across states.
- In FY25, SECI reported 16.49% revenue growth to ₹15,185.10 crore and 15.11% PAT increase to ₹501.92 crore, strengthening its capacity to deliver large-scale renewable energy and storage solutions to meet rising commercial, industrial, and government demand.
1412. Juniper Green Energy raises ₹1,739 crore from IREDA
- On August 13 2025, Juniper Green Energy obtained ₹1,739 crore from IREDA to fund renewable projects across India, following last year’s $1 billion debt raise.
- The financing will support large-scale project execution, strengthen operations, and align with India’s sustainable energy goals, according to CFO Parag Agrawal.
- The company commissioned a 103 MWp solar plant in Karanja 16 months early and partially commissioned 25 MW of a Gujarat wind project three months ahead of schedule.
1413. IIT-Hyderabad begins AI-powered driverless bus service on campus
- On 13 August 2025, It was reported that, The Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IIT-H) has put driverless buses into daily service on its campus, marking a first-of-its-kind deployment in the country. The vehicles, built by the institute’s Technology Innovation Hub on Autonomous Navigation (TiHAN), are fully electric and operate without a human driver.
- Two variants, a six-seater and a fourteen-seater, are in operation. The buses, newly added to the campus roads, are already a regular sight, having transported more than 10,000 passengers. TiHAN reports that passenger feedback has been largely positive, with a satisfaction rate of about 90 per cent.
- While the buses currently operate only within IIT-H’s boundaries, the project is seen as an early step towards the introduction of autonomous public transport in India.
1414. Indian Railways Offers Free Wi-Fi Services At 6,115 Railway Stations; How To Access It
- On August 12, 2025, Parliament was informed that, free Wi-Fi is available at 6,115 Indian railway stations, including major hubs like New Delhi, Mumbai Central, and cities across Tier 2 and Tier 3 regions.
- The initiative aims to bridge the digital divide, allowing passengers to stream, download, and work online via the RailWire network, accessed through mobile OTP authentication.
- RailTel, a PSU under the Ministry of Railways, operates RailWire and has partnered earlier with Google and Tata Trusts. The project supports digital inclusion and is financially successful with strong investor returns.
1415. Centre allocates Rs 5,470 crore for Assam under PMAY-G
- On August 12, 2025, it was reported that the Centre allocated Rs 5,470.51 crore for Assam under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) for the 2025-26 financial year, part of a Rs 47,474.58 crore allocation for 18 states, with Assam and Manipur being the only Northeast states included.
- Assam’s allocation supports a target of constructing 29,87,868 rural houses, with 28,71,051 sanctioned and 20,69,648 completed by July 2025, while Manipur received Rs 46.18 crore, based on performance, pending completions, and annual action plans.
- The PMAY-G scheme, effective since April 1, 2016, aims to provide 4.95 crore pucca houses with basic amenities by 2029, with the Union Cabinet approving an additional 2 crore houses for 2024-29 to achieve “Housing for All” in rural areas.

1416. Cabinet approves ₹5,801 crore Lucknow Metro Rail Project
- On August 12 2025, Phase-1B of Lucknow Metro, with 12 stations (7 underground, 5 elevated) over 11.165 km, was approved, extending the metro in Uttar Pradesh’s capital city.
- The expansion aims to reduce traffic congestion, improve public transport, boost economic growth, and enhance quality of life by connecting dense commercial, healthcare, and tourist zones.
- Key connected areas include Aminabad, Yahiyaganj, Pandeyganj, Chowk, King George’s Medical University, and historic sites like Bara Imambara and Rumi Darwaza.
1417. J&KCentre Approves ₹10 Cr Craft Tourism Village for Sonpah, Budgam to Showcase Kashmir’s Sozni Heritage
- On August 12, 2025, it was reported that the Government of India approved a ₹10 crore Craft Tourism Village in Sonpah, Budgam, Jammu and Kashmir, to promote the region’s Sozni craft heritage, with an initial ₹4.5 crore released under the National Handicrafts Development Programme.
- The project, implemented by the Department of Handicrafts and Handloom, Kashmir, through the Central Cottage Industries Corporation, will feature designer gates, mural paintings, live craft demos, workspaces, and market facilities to showcase Sonpah’s award-winning artisans.
- Located en route to Doodhpathri and Tossa Maidan, the village aims to transform Sonpah into a modern tourism hub while preserving its cultural legacy, boosting local craftsmanship and economic opportunities.

1418. Rs 8,146 crore green energy project cleared for Arunachal’s Shi Yomi district
- On August 12, 2025, it was reported that the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved a Rs 8,146.21 crore investment for the 700 MW Tato-II Hydro Electric Project in Shi Yomi district, Arunachal Pradesh, marking a significant step for renewable energy in the Northeast.
- The project, a joint venture between NEEPCO and the Arunachal Pradesh government, is set to be completed in 72 months, generating 2,738 million units of electricity annually, with the state receiving 12% free power and 1% for local development.
- Expected to boost the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, the project will create jobs, build 33 km of roads, bridges, and upgrade local hospitals and schools, enhancing infrastructure and social services in the region.

1420. Centre approves SiCSem, CDIL, 3DGS, ASIP Technologies’ semicon proposals worth ₹4,600 crore
- On August 12 2025, India’s Cabinet approved semiconductor manufacturing projects worth ₹4,600 crore in Odisha, Punjab, and Andhra Pradesh under the India Semiconductor Mission.
