1831. ONGC, GAIL Begin Gas Supply to Gomati CGD Network
- On June 12, 2025 ONGC and GAIL (India) Ltd have started the direct supply of natural gas from Palatana, Tripura to the City Gas Distribution (CGD) network.
- The initiative connects the remote Palatana region to India’s CGD infrastructure, aligning with the Government of India’s North-East Vision to boost energy access and clean fuel adoption in underserved areas.
- The direct gas supply will benefit both residential and commercial users in Gomati, reducing reliance on conventional fuels and promoting sustainable development through cleaner energy solutions.
1832. New 300MW Hybrid Project Strengthens Sembcorp’s Renewables Push in India
- Sembcorp Industries, through its wholly owned subsidiary Sembcorp Green Infra Private Limited (SGIPL), has secured its first 50-megawatt Round-the-Clock (RTC) renewable power project from the Solar Energy Corporation of India Ltd (SECI).
- The contract is part of SECI’s 1.2-gigawatt tender aimed at delivering consistent power supply from renewable energy sources connected to the Inter-State Transmission System. To meet the 50MW contracted capacity, Sembcorp will deploy approximately 300MW of installed renewable energy capacity, combining solar, wind, and battery energy storage systems (BESS).
- The project marks a significant milestone in Sembcorp’s expansion in India, increasing its gross renewables capacity in the country to over 6.5GW. Globally, Sembcorp’s total renewables portfolio now stands at 18.0GW, including acquisitions pending completion.
1833. India Approves Rs 64 Billion Rail Doubling Projects
- On 12 June 2025 It was reported that, The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister, had approved two key railway multi-tracking projects with a combined estimated cost of Rs 64.05 billion (approximately £610 million). These projects are part of the Indian Railways’ broader push to enhance capacity and efficiency under the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan.
- The first project doubles the 133 km Koderma–Barkakana line in Jharkhand, boosting coal transport and Patna–Ranchi connectivity. The second project doubles the 185 km Ballari–Chikjajur line, enhancing rail links across Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
- The projects are aligned with the Gati Shakti initiative’s aim to deliver integrated infrastructure development and seamless connectivity for the movement of people, goods, and services.
1834. Infrastructure Revolution: Minister Of Petroleum & Natural Gas Says India Saw Oil & Gas Sector Expansion Over Last 11 Years; Lauds Modern Refineries & Pipelines, Clean Fuel
- Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas on 12 June 2025 said that over the last 11 years, India’s oil and gas sector has expanded steadily, from building modern refineries and pipelines to securing reserves and promoting cleaner fuels as part of the infrastructure revolution that is taking place in the country.
- Minister said that the country now has 23 modern operational refineries with a total capacity of 257 million metric tonnes per annum to produce petroleum products such as petrol, diesel, jet fuel and LPGThe Piped Natural Gas (PNG) infrastructure that provides green cooking fuel to household kitchens in the country has been expanded to cover 733 districts across the country.
- The minister mentioned that the storage capacity at Pudur is 2.25 million metric tonnes (MMT), the Visakhaptnam facility has the capacity to store 1.33 MMT of crude oil while Mangalore has a storage capacity of 1.5 MMT.Besides, another strategic reserve facility is being built at Chandikhol, which is also on the sea coast.

1835. Banana fibre extraction facility inaugurated in Nagaland to transform rural livelihoods
- On June 11, 2025, the Common Facility Centre (CFC) for Banana Fibre Extraction was inaugurated in Kukidolong, Nagaland, to transform rural livelihoods by converting banana pseudo-stem waste into fibre, liquid fertiliser, vermicompost, and biodegradable paper, supported by NECTAR and implemented by The Entrepreneurs Associates (tEA).
- tEA CEO Neichute Doulo noted the CFC aligns with Nagaland CM Neiphiu Rio’s NagaKi vision, with raw material sourcing already underway from nearby villages, positioning the centre as a hub for economic growth, as stated during the event attended by over 200 farmers.
- Chief Guests, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of DoNER, called the CFC a cornerstone for Northeast development under PM-DevINE, while NECTAR’s Dr. Arun Kumar Sarma highlighted its role as the region’s first such facility, promoting sustainable livelihoods.

1836. Mizoram joins national rail network with commissioning of Bairabi-Sairang stretch
- On June 11, 2025, Mizoram was fully integrated into India’s national railway network with the commissioning of the 51.38-km Bairabi-Sairang broad gauge line, following inspection by the Commission of Railway Safety, as announced by Northeast Frontier Railway.
- The final 33.86-km Hortoki-Sairang stretch, inspected June 6–10 by Commissioner Sumeet Singhal, features 32 tunnels and 35 major bridges, with a speed trial confirming safety for passenger and freight trains at up to 90 km/h.
- Chief Public Relations Officer Kapinjal Kishore Sharma stated the line is “technically safe” and awaits central approval for train operations, with a formal inauguration planned soon, connecting Aizawl directly to the rail network for the first time.

1837. Centre approves ₹4,224 crore PMGSY package for rural road projects in J&K
- On June 11, 2025, the Centre approved a ₹4,224.23 crore package for 316 road projects in Jammu and Kashmir under PMGSY-IV, the largest ever for the union territory, to connect 390 rural habitations with populations as small as 250 via 1,781.33 km of new roads.
- The projects, primarily benefiting the less-connected Jammu division, focus on fresh road construction, unlike PMGSY-III’s emphasis on road upgrades and ₹377.91 crore for 66 bridges, with no bridge projects included in PMGSY-IV, per the Union Ministry of Rural Development.
- Lieutenant Governor of J&K thanked Prime Minister and Union Minister, stating on that J&K was the first state/UT to receive PMGSY-IV sanction, predicting a “new era of prosperity” for remote areas through enhanced connectivity.
1838. India’s extreme poverty rate declines from 27.1% in 2011-12 to 5.3% in 2022-23: World Bank
- On 11 June, 2025 It was reported that, India reduced its extreme poverty rate from 27.1% in 2011–12 to 5.3% in 2022–23, successfully lifting 171 million people out of extreme poverty, according to World Bank data.
- Pakistan’s poverty situation remained critical, with 42.4% of its population living in poverty and 16.5% in extreme poverty, while 1.9 million more people were pushed into poverty in 2024–25 due to low economic growth and high population increase.
- In 2025, Pakistan's agriculture sector suffered due to poor weather, with rainfall reduced by 40%, pest attacks, and shifting crop patterns, causing crop yields to fall by up to 29.6% for cotton and limiting sectoral growth to below 2%.

1840. BHASHINI, CRIS Sign MoU To Develop Multilingual AI For Railways
- Digital India Bhashini Division (DIBD) and the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Monday to jointly build and deploy next-generation multilingual artificial intelligence solutions for the Indian Railways’ public-facing digital platforms.
- The agreement, signed by BHASHINI CEO Amitabh Nag and CRIS Managing Director G.V.L. Satya Kumar, is aimed at integrating BHASHINI’s advanced language technology stack—including Automatic Speech Recognition, Text-to-Text Translation, Text-to-Speech, and Optical Character Recognition—into systems such as the National Train Enquiry System (NTES) and RailMadad.
- The collaboration is expected to significantly enhance language accessibility for railway passengers by enabling support for 22 Indian languages across websites, mobile applications, kiosks, and call centers.
