- The Jiribam – Agartala – Jiribam Janshatabdi Express will connect important historic towns such as Badarpur, Silchar, New Karimganj, Dharmanagar and Ambassa It will reduce the travel journey by half The train service will provide affordable, comfortable, reliable, and modern rail connectivity to people Also, this will enhance medical and educational facilities Moreover, it will give a boost to trade, tourism, and overall economy in the region
- Express will cut down the travel duration by half as the time of train journey will be around six hours, covering a distance of 300 Kilometres against approx. 12 hours time it takes to go by road.
23132. 100 tonnes of Nuzvid mango to be exported
- The government is set to export at least 100 tonnes of mangoes cultivated in the Nuzvid region to countries like Dubai, Singapore, South Korea, Maldives and Europe
- In 2019, around 10 tonnes of mango (Banginapalli variety from Nuzvid) was exported to Europe, South East Asia, and few other countries via air cargo from Hyderabad and Chennai,”
- Mango growers in Nuzvid region were guided by the horticulture department on export standards, methods of cultivation, the right size, ripening methods, and fertilizers accepted by importing countries.

23133. 63,000 tonne grapes exported from Nashik district so far
- Grape exports from the Nashik district seem to have gathered momentum, with officials announcing that nearly 63,000 tonne of the fruit has been sent out in 4,705 containers so far.
- Out of the 63,000 tonne exported so far, 55,000 tonne were sent out to European countries — 36,000 tonne to the Netherland; 6,700 tonne to the United Kingdom; 6,500 tonne to Germany; 1,200 tonne to Denmark. The rest of the grape export was to countries such as Finland, Slovenia, Spain, Ireland, Norway, etc.
- Nearly 8,000 tonne of grapes has been exported to non-European countries such as Russia, the UAE etc. The grape export season will continue through the end of April. The district also recorded a 26% drop in the registration of vineyards meant for export during the grape season 2019-20.

23134. In a first, India figures on arms exporters list
- In a first, India has figured on a list of global arms exporters, making a modest entry at number 23 but the ranking is likely to rise sharply over the coming years. The latest data on global arms transfer by SIPRI shows that Indian arms imports have come down significantly (by 32%) since 2015, indicating that the ‘Make in India’ initiative is gaining ground but the country is still ranked as the world’s 2nd biggest weapons buyers, just behind Saudi Arabia.
- Imports from the US have taken a huge dip in the past 5 years, with the data showing that Russia now accounts for 56% of arms supplies. The US no longer figures among the top 3. After Russia, Israel at 14% and France at 12% are the major sources of weapons for India.
- At present, the exports shown are modest – they account for only 0.2% of the global arms market – but the start is significant. India’s biggest clients are Myanmar, which accounts for 46% of exports, Sri Lanka at 25% and Mauritius at 14%.

23135. India phone exports more than doubled on-year to 3.6 crore units in FY19-20

23136. India allows additional 745 tonne raw sugar exports to US
- The government on Friday permitted export of additional 745 tonne raw sugar under its tariff-rate quota (TRQ) to the US which enables shipments to enjoy relatively low tariff. TRQ is a quota for a volume of exports that enter the US at relatively low tariffs. After the quota is reached, a higher tariff applies on additional imports.
- With this additional quantity, India has permitted exports of 9,169 tonne of raw sugar to the US under TRQ during US fiscal year 2020. India enjoys duty-free sugar exports to the US for up to 10,000 tonnes annually under preferential quota arrangement.
- India has exported 28.68 lakh tonne of sugar so far in the current marketing year ending September on the back of assistance offered by the government to boost shipments, according to All India Sugar Trade Association (AISTA). India exported sugar to 58 countries, but 65 per cent of the total shipments were to Iran, Somalia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan.

23137. Fresh export orders for tea, basmati from Iran, China and Russia
- Iran, China and Russia have placed fresh orders for Indian black tea in the midst of the Covid-19 outbreak, a boost for the domestic industry which has incurred losses of about 100 million kg of teas owing to the lockdown.
- West Asian nations led by Iran have also placed orders for basmati rice, but traders are likely to miss the crucial Ramzan period, April 23-May 23, as it takes 40-45 days to ship the consignments.Mohit Agarwal, director, Asian Tea, told ET: “There is good demand from Iran for orthodox teas.
- Their banks have opened and payments for the earlier consignments are coming. Exporters are buying privately since the auction centres are yet to open.

23139. Govt permits exports of non-medical, non-surgical masks
- The government on Saturday eased mask export restrictions by permitting outbound shipments of non-medical and non-surgical masks of all types, including cotton, silk, wool and knitted. However, all other types of masks such as N-95 and surgical masks will continue to remain prohibited for exports.
- Apparel exporters were demanding ease in export ban on cotton, silk, wool, and knitted masks. "It is a welcome move. We had requested the government for this. Now we will have huge export orders. We expect to export these masks worth USD one billion in the next three months," Apparel Export Promotion Council of India Chairman A Sakthivel said.
- The government had banned export of surgical/disposable masks and textile raw material used for making masks in the wake of coronavirus outbreak. Earlier on January 31, the government had banned export of personal protection equipment, including clothing and masks used to protect the wearer from air borne particles and/or any other respiratory masks.

23140. India’s exports to Latin America increased to 13.2 billion dollars in 2019-20, the highest in the last 5 years
- Brazil came back this year to claim its position as the # 1 destination of India’s exports to the region, with 3.97 billion dollars, overtaking Mexico.
- The other major destinations were: Mexico USD 3.62 billion; Colombia USD1.04 billion; Chile USD 793 million; Peru USD 764 million; Argentina USD 763 million. Surprisingly, exports to Venezuela doubled to USD 340 million doubling from USD 165 million in 2018-19. Exports to Mercosur was USD 5005 million, Pacific Alliance USD 6223 million, CAFTA (Central America + DR) USD 1200 million and others USD 754 million.
